What if it wasn’t either schools choice? DeVries obviously chose IU over Iowa. He was Iowa’s number one choice. No one knows if IU picked DeVries over McCollum. Most say McCollum favored Iowa. You can’t hold it against Dolson if McCollum said no.
-
I went over to the Drake message board and read their thoughts on DeVries. Positive thoughts were that he will quickly build a winner and that he should recruit well. Negative thoughts were that his teams dealt with a lot of injuries and they thought he played to conservative to end games. There were multiple instances where his teams gave up leads in tourney games to ultimately lose. That doesn’t really line up with stat Dolson gave of 65% win percentage in close games. That was supposedly a good stat when looking at good programs.

Thats would be a strong staff, but we always think that with a new coach.

In addition to Will Wade, NC State is hiring Andrew Slater of the Oklahoma City Thunder for their GM role. Former recruiting Analyst. https://x.com/prosportsgoats/status/1903148864997089776?s=46

Has there been any concrete info of a GM role being established?

I see a lot of hate toward Ostrom. Where does that come from? I know he was a former assistant.

I am curious why you think that?

I am starting to come around to Tyme saying the Indiana fans are part of the problem. The guy hasn’t coached his 1st game.
-
More like top coaches aren’t leaving their current p4 job to go to another p4 job. Not just IU. See Michigan, Louisville, and Kentucky last year ago.
-
Iowa also wanted him above McCollum. He will get a chance to prove it on the court. Not the sexy hire but a good coach.
-
If that happens, I think we have a bigger fish on the line. Win-win
-
I have no idea if ultimately he would be a success, because all we can do is project. From what others have said, he recruits well, team plays good defense (15th this year), and he can adjust when his best player goes down. When could we say that with an IU coach the last 10 years?
-
How many tournament games are you going to win with a team playing in the MVC?
-
I agree. He was Iowas number one over even McCollum. Not saying he is the better tactician, but he is very well thought of. I think he would have IU winning a lot of games his first year.
-
I thought that before this news came out. I would not be surprised if he stays at WVU with a raise and more NIL. Iowa will turn to McCollum and my guess is he will jump at it.
-
There may not have been a meeting but he did talk to the Iowa AD. https://x.com/hoopsweiss/status/1901860470815879675?s=46

Dakich thinks it’s Devries. That would be strange to meet with Iowa and then less than 24 hours later you have accepted and signed to be the Indiana coach. Hard to believe.

For past reference, Mike Woodson was announced as coach via X on Sunday, March 28 with a formal press conference on March 29.

I can’t see any donors lining up to chip in for the salary and the buyout of Brownell. Also could see the NIL cratering.
-
We will be told that he has grown as a coach and we should look at the last two years as proof.
-
Why not just keep Mike Woodson if you are happy with mediocre? I just don’t see it with Brownell.
-
He said he hopes he is wrong. I hope so also.
