  1. As much as I love reading all the pleasantries being exchanged, let's chill the *bleep* out for a minute. 1) Losing top recruits sucks. Losing top in-state recruits sucks even more. Losing a top in state recruit to Vanderbilt... Well, we all agree on what that is. 2) Romeo Langford isn't signing for another 5 months, so let's pace ourselves. If he doesn't choose us it doesn't have much to do with CAM. It has to do with the insufficient roster he's inherited and the inefficient play style he has to flush out of his players basketball minds. He's coaching and recruiting handicapped this year. However, if he does choose us it speaks a ton about CAM and how he and the staff get through to these top targets. And that's promising. *salivates* Until April, we won't know. 3) People handle things differently. Generally your optimists handle the process of a rebuild with more patience and less panic, but are more let down when certain goals aren't met. Your pessimists hate a rebuild because it just can't happen fast enough, but are well-prepared for shortcomings. As long as these two mindsets are expressed with some sensibility and read into with an open mind, one shouldn't supremely irritate the other. 4) 2019 and beyond is where CAM proves himself. Skepticism in moderation is fine. Optimism in moderation is fine. Looking for a reason to get offended and have a pissing contest about it in front of everyone else is not. Keep that part in the DMs. It happened the last few days before Garland's committment and afterward when most people were stressed about him. I get it. But there is no sign of Romeo committing anytime soon, and if the bickering goes on until April I'll lose my mind. My apologies for feeding into the issue. /rant. 2. Wow. Doom and gloom all up in here. No. We aren't where we want to be. We'd say the same thing if there hadn't been a significant change about 8 months ago. When you hire a new coach, who brings a new basketball philosophy, to coach a team that was recruited in mediocrity (the staff, not the players) and taught to play a mediocre style of basketball, the product on the court may actually take some steps back while everything develops. Oh, and on top of that it's also the same team who lost 3 players to the pros. To me that sounds like a recipe for taking it on the chin this season. This is something we should have anticipated. And yes, it sucks. What we didn't anticipate ( and quite frankly shouldn't have to - EVER -) is the lack of effort from so many returning players. THAT'S the disappointing part of this. We can take the on court growing pains, that's fine. But to step on THAT court with THAT mindset??? Inexcusable. And that's what's gonna make some of these games go from tough to embarrassing, because half of them will just shut down. Progress could be made so much more easily if it weren't for the mentality (or lack thereof). Luckily that can, and hopefully does, improve. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  3. What stands out about this is how did nobody see or know about this tweet at the time? All that takes is one retweet and it's spreading like wildfire, especially considering the timing. But nobody got a hold of it. My guess is anyone relevant in the recruiting game who did see it trusted their own sources way more than an apparent unknown. I.e. this probably wasn't likely. But hey, you never know anymore. Thanks for sharing. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  4. Now that one I'm 100% with you. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  5. To each his own and I respect your opinion. I was feeling disappointed yesterday afternoon as well. I'm as competitive as the next guy/athlete/fan, but there are some situations where there actually is a consolation prize and it can even be ok to accept it. All you have to do is imagine there hadn't been a coaching change. After nearly a decade of FCTC I think we can all accurately surmise what the outlook for 2018 recruiting might be right now and I don't think we'd be looking at so much potential. And we wouldn't see a team picking apart a half court zone. Or *gasp* in game adjustments. Losing out on Garland yesterday and knowing the possible effect it could have on Romeo was a shot to the pills. However, we're only in position to feel that way because there is already great work being done presently and so much potential in the not so far away future of Indiana Basketball. Chin up, Hoosier fans. We're already well on our way. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  6. I tolerate most posts on here, allowing each to have his/her opinion. And it's not that I don't tolerate the above post. I have my share of knee jerk reactions. But if in this particular situation second place is indeed for losers, what is your definition of first place? If landing 4 top 100 guys + 2 top ten guys for CAMs first high major recruiting class after 8 months on the job was the expectation, I disagree. That'd be incredible, but shouldn't be expected. Not yet. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  7. Yes! And I forgot another quality: Coachability. A kid that wants to learn. A kid that wants direction. And for crying out loud a kid that can handle a butt chewing from time to time. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  8. I like this a lot, Stu. Sometimes we get caught up in skill sets, athletic ability, God-given talent, etc and forget the intangibles. Players' mentalities are going to be more heavily weighted and rewarded during CAM's era. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  9. Sounds like the morning after a bachelor party.... Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  10. Al Durham is a guy who WANTS to play at Indiana. You could tell he was looking to make the most of his minutes when he came in Sunday. I absolutely love that. He's one who will play with pride. Not everyone is doing that yet.... And it's making me insane. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  11. This is representative of the lesson in recruiting. Nothing is "fact" until the kid himself says it is. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  12. Quick derail.... I've unsubscribed from the DG thread but I keep getting notifications. Any way to fix that? I was happy not getting things done when I thought we had a snowball's chance lol Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  13. This is where we rip Watford away from Alabama. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  14. Haha yes, there's also that. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  15. My thought on Romeo is if NC is a big piece of the puzzle for him and IU is in no way appealing to him by spring, then he would be stupid not to choose Kansas. Yes, he can go play with Garland and Shittu and that's a darn good team on paper. But it's Vanderbilt and they likely won't have enough around the three to complete a NC caliber team. Kansas, on the other hand.... They've got all the "resources" needed to stack a roster. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  16. I think Vandy is shady to even be in the contest for a class like this. The only thing that keeps me from fully believing it is the fact DG is a hometown kid and HS kids buy into the whole package deal concept even more thanks to the influence of NBA players contacting each other to form superteams. 17. His choice to go to Vandy where the basketball environment blows. So be it. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  18. Welp. Deadlifts should go better than expected this afternoon. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  19. Agreed. And since there has been some stress-induced bickering amongst ourselves from time to time, please don't rub each other's nose in it here either. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  20. This is true. Maybe the other schools don't have writers who follow as closely as Rabjohns and therefore aren't pumping out as many updates about Darius. But I haven't seen him acknowledge much of their work, if any, like he's done with Rabjohns. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  21. Same here! It probably doesn't mean much of anything, but I'm clinging to any shred of positive developments I can find haha. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  22. He re-tweeted Rabby again just now. Just FWIW Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  23. No matter what the decision, let's avoid any finger pointing on the board today. Now.... Claim those Candy Stripes, Darius! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
  24. At this point in the young season, Davis is as close as the go-to guy as we've got. He's shown the best combination of efficiency, decision making, and finishing ability thus far. The offense has much better odds of getting a high percentage shot when he gets the ball in a position to work in the post, whether it comes from the paint or perimeter. Decent court vision and good passing for a big man. The challenge will be recognizing those moments and the decision making of our back court players. Side note - it's already comforting to see them break down a zone. Things will continue to improve. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
  25. And Idk if it's been mentioned in the thread or not, but defensively I wasn't impressed with Green tonight. Getting beat off the first step too easily and too often. Then showing immature decision making when getting frustrated. He's gotta get that under control. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
