Fire (or Force 'Contemplated Retirement') Coach Woodson Thread
bigrod replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Its official that Mike Woodson is thinking only about Mike Woodson, and doesn't care about how his unwise choices affect anyone but Mike Woodson. So, basically nothing has changed. He wants to make it look like it was his decision, but he is still delusional enough to think he is going to get over this mountain he calls a hump. -

You're right! They've been bad almost as long as the football program, and... Oh, wait. -

What is our moral record? Maybe we can get in the moral tournament. I bet we could kick some moral @$$ and put up a moral banner! -
I was going to preface my comments that it felt like they were in the same place they were before he took over for his dad - just so much complacency.

Most places like to fail fast. Realize your mistake, fix it, and move forward. At IU, we like to fail slowly, like snails. Realize your mistake, throw a bunch of resources into showing everyone you didn't make a mistake, and then try to put out the raging dumpster fire with a sprinkler. -
The fact that they are sticking with Ballard tells me they just don't care anymore. Ballard has done nothing in his time there to warrant another year. Everyone believed the hype, that he was some kind of savant, when he was brought in, and he has done zilch to earn any benefit of doubt. For sure, Luck's sudden retirement hurt, but he has done nothing since except totally mismanage the franchise/draft/free agency. The fact that Irsay is willing to roll with no changes is exactly the same mistake Ballard made last year. Except for getting lucky on a few late round players, I can't think of anything he has done well.

Serious question: What do you think Woodson taught Ware? Ware knew he had to do well to bury the idea that he wasn't a hard worker. He went to summer camps to improve. Woodson let him play the way he wanted to play, but is that really developing him?

Maybe he'll stay after the new coach/staff is announced. -

His narrative wasn't working, so he decided to change the narrative. IU Football was broken too before Cig got there. There is nothing that is happening on the court that is anything more than lack of effort, motivation, planning, and tactical advantage. That is coaching. -
Kind of like saying, I would like to utilize the talent effectively.

I just saw that Mike Woodson knows exactly what needs to be done to get better. He said they have to play harder and get better. Whew! Makes me feel good knowing he has such a detailed plan. -
Imagine what Painter could do with this roster. And then imagine what Woodson would do with Purdue's roster.

Guard play was supposed to be much improved. 15 combined points between 4 guards is not much improved. I really don't see us winning many games with Ballo being the leading scorer. What happened to this new and improved offense he was working on all summer??? -

Wait, there were people ready to hand the Big Ten title to us after this haul. Now you're saying it's hodgepodge? You're acting like these things should be planned out ahead of time. Crazy talk... This is still a team that is way more talented than they are showing. They need to have direction. -

The people who funded this got exactly what they paid for: high priced players and a coach who thinks he is way better than he is. And, allowing their egos and his to be higher priority than the program. -

Mike Woodson's biggest enemy is Mike Woodson. Or actually, maybe Mike Woodson's ego. -

But they don't question Mike Woodson. -
They're grasping at straws. Just one more season of mediocrity on Ballard's growing mediocre resume. And for all we hear of Steichen's offensive genius, the offense sure isn't scoring many points, no matter who is at QB. What. A. Mess.
-
Yep, control what you can control.
-
I have to say, I hope you're wrong. What has Ballard accomplished in his time there? If he's still around, it means that they are comfortable with his brand of mediocrity. They keep acting like his drafts are great, but we're not seeing it on the field.

I think (hope) he stays too, but I wonder if he loses both OC and DC. Hopefully they have been grooming replacements.
