Candidate Thread: Brad Stevens (Boston Celtics)
goonaha replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Well Chris both liked my message saying it was a troll, and then also liked other replies that said he wasn't. Who knows! I'm not accusing him of lying by the way, more questioning the source. IU wouldn't have to make Braden Smith the "#1 target"; they could simply offer him and he'd commit. I don't think that would be a very long recruitment in that scenario. -

Well it's patently absurd that Braden Smith would be the number one recruiting target this summer when we don't even know who the coach is. -

I'm pretty sure Chris was trolling with the Braden Smith mentions. -

Or the reason it's been quiet is because the current candidates are in the tournament or recently bounced (Hoping that means Musselman not Moser). That is the simpler explanation. -

That's my sticking point. If he wasn't willing to quit last week, what is going to change in the next two months until the Celtics are out of the playoffs. There's simply no way we keep the position open that long. -

Upon inspecting their website, they also have separate endowments for the offensive and defensive coordinators. That's Michigan for you, I guess. lol -

I think it is. Many schools have "endowed" coaching roles, where some donor gets their name before the title of head coach on the school website. -
Neither Goodman nor Parrish work for ESPN.
-
Considering nobody has been hired, nobody has been right on anything yet. Can't really be "right" if there's not an answer yet.
-
Loyola is a far tougher and worse job than Dayton or Marquette, which have both had pretty consistent success over a wide range of coaches, and also dedicate a considerable amount of resources to basketball. People said the same thing about if Archie fails, we're done, we're Nebraska football, etc. That's just not true. You can always make another hire. It just takes one to turn it around.
-
What exactly is the point of looking at his pre Saint Louis assistant record? He's clearly a different coach than he was 15 years ago. People learn and develop. He built Loyola (although slowly) from a complete cellar dweller to a legitimate program.
-
Wouldn't Beard be a "hot name" too considering he hasn't replicated his success from the national championship run yet?
-
You sign a new big contract because you are happy at Alabama and all that it offers, and are not interested in Indiana.
-
What evidence is there that Calbert can recruit or build a team? He certainly didn't recruit at Saint Louis.
-
Lander tweets (and captions on Instagram) melodramatic stuff all the time. Projecting coaching search news onto the tweets of teenagers is a recipe for disaster. I recommend against doing that.
-
Just like Duncomb knew it was Stevens last week? Please.
-
Why has this thread exploded? Just that ND Kendrick tweet? The guy doesn't know anything. He could've just read the Bozich article on Matta and said that (hypothetically) would be a home run hire. We have no idea if he knows who the hire is or is just speculating. No use getting revved up on this one.
-
That article is just pointing to Bozich's article for WDRB. The actual 247 guys (peegs and Rabjohns) haven't said anything about Matta but have said Woodson has or will interview (can't remember).
-
I think the prevailing thought is that Matta isn't looking for a 'fishbowl' atmosphere or the spotlight that the Indiana job would bring at this stage in his life.

No, they could not hire Matta to transition the program until the NBA season is over. Stevens is not coming. If he wanted to, he could've said yes over the weekend. He did not. -
Candidate Thread: Porter Moser
goonaha replied to Henryville Hoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I also think his stint as Rick Majerus's lead assistant at Saint Louis has changed him as a coach. It causes me to discount his pre SLU records. -
Really hoping it's courtesy interest and not actually serious. That'd be an absolutely disastrous and embarrassing hire. Nothing personal against Mike, but I have no interest in a 62 year old coach who's never recruited or sat on a college bench in his entire coaching career.

Candidate Thread: Nate Oats (Alabama)
goonaha replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I didn't realize that both Nate Oats and Tom Allen went to Maranatha Baptist. -
I said I'm hearing some buzz (that he's going to be the guy). I'm now here looking for corroborating evidence. I don't know if it's legit or not.
-
I've heard some buzz here today. Know @Chris007 is probably a little burned by the Stevens 'no' but curious if anyone else is hearing things here.
