An update on Maryland who suffered blowouts to both our next opponent NC State and a Stanford team we just talk to wire. Maryland was without two of their top players. With that said they have five other top players who are were available. Gives me more confidence we can compete with NC State at full strength since we did the same with Stanford when they did not. The Terps though still should of been more competitive and I hope IU is. When you have seven of the top 15 players in the Big Ten, losing two should still be more than adequate to stay with anyone in country. I liken it to IU soccer. When you have 11 players and five bench guys who would start almost anywhere else in country, losing two to three top players should not drastically alter your results. Any other team in the Big Ten can use that as an excuse with two to three top players, but Maryland having seven it should be better.

Ugh. Inexcusable to let a mediocre Miami team back into the game twice after building a big lead and the Hurricanes had a great look at a three for the win at the buzzer they missed. Never apologize for a win, but for first time this season we looked anything but the top 5-10 team we are. Hopefully this a fluke. Maryland got pounded by Stanford today (rather than the close game we had), so if we play up to our ability I feel better about the NC State game Thursday now and also our ability to compete with Terps in the Big Ten. Still improvement needed but 5-1 is exactly where I had us at this point.

This is a game you win comfortably if IU is the team we think they are. IU is certainly better than Washington State and the Cougars handled the Hurricanes pretty easily. Also, Miami is picked a middle to bottom ACC team and they didn't exactly win comfortably in their cupcake games. This is a decent win for the resume, but it's one you get if you want to be a top 4 seed and host NCAA games as Coach Moren keeps talking about.

I am not even mad about that loss. We went toe-to-toe with a legit top 5 team proving are a true top 5-10 team as well. Any win against Stanford, NC State or Maryland this yr is a bonus, but a top 2 Big Ten finish and a 23-6 record is very much in reach and after today I am more confident we can do that. Most teams don’t have Stanford’s length inside to make our inside game miserable but we hung in there. We actually played far better than the last win against Quinnipiac, but not enough in a game that could go either way.

Not sure NC State game is winnable next week now. They are absolutely mauling Maryland early today and the Terps are better than IU. NC State has a loss to South Carolina in a close game but right now the Gamecocks and Wolfpack look like far and away the best teams in country. While you should never concede any game, right now I would say if you can finish the non-conference with only losses to Stanford today and NC State (and honestly the game today looks more gettable as Stanford has lost to a Texas team that is pretty similar to IU) it will be a success. I am not dumping on our Hoosiers at all and they are a legitimate top 10 team, but NC State and Stanford are on another level (as is Maryland possibly).

I think Holmes was trying to hard in front of her family and missed many easy layups she normally makes. She makes five more of them and does her normal damage and it's an easy 20 point win. Instead Berger rescued IU down the stretch and we survived our first nail biter of the year. Need to be better in Bahamas against elite competition but a win is a win. -
The toothpaste team said cupcake games are bad for your teeth and go brush them;).

Berger can make from half court but offense looks horrific and missing easy shots. Not sure how team looks so fluid first three games and horrific this game. -
Best way to buy game tickets?
Aaron replied to HoosierInParadise's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
IU Basketball has a pricing issue that is simple to fix, yet for some reason has not been done. Every other sports team (including IU Football) have realized you have to dynamically price tickets in this day and age with some games costing more than others based on the opponent and it has made the secondary market and primary ticket market mostly match price wise (unless a team is really bad). For some unexplained reason IU basketball is about the only team in the country not to adapt dynamic pricing, so you get a situation where the secondary market is way cheaper for bad games and way more expensive for good games. -

Wrong on radio only. Please update your post. That's why I put the "confused face" on the original post. I will take it away after it is corrected. Game is streamed on ESPN3 at this link: https://www.espn.com/watch/player/_/id/ed9ff268-1e1e-424d-ae0e-307d042286ff This is available if you subscribe to any kind of cable for free (this includes online cable like youtubetv or Sling). It cannot be bought for extra money, but as long as you have a cable subscription of some kind this link is free and available (you may need to sign in with your cable account credentials). Update: Is now corrected in the original post. -

Team was def tired after the emotional win Sunday, but didn't matter against a team of this caliber and did more than enough to win. -

Norfolk St didn't have time to do laundry after wearing their road uniforms Sunday at OSU. This sounds funny but it is the truth. -
That PSU result is the one that stands out as truly atrocious. Losing to a Big East team, especially in a close game is acceptable as far as losses go. Getting blown out by a Sub-100 A-10 team though is as bas it gets. The Nittany Lions may be a bottom team in the Big Ten and UMass a good A10 team. Still at worst that discrepancy should be a close game. Not a blowout. Looks like a long year for PSU again.

Again 4th year. Aird has shown nothing. Tough job. He is in Archie territory. Great guy but time is not going to fix this. He is not getting the job done. Need a change.

I want to be clear. This season is absolutely a step in right direction, but still the collapse down the stretch and inability to score were disappointing.
-
Collapse complete. Ask IU football about trying to win with defense only and unable to generate a lick of offense. This team has exact same issue.
-
As I said this team has come a long way this year. They are still by no means good, but you are seeing improvement from last couple years which is a step in right direction and more than I can say about some of our other bottom feeder programs that look as bad as ever (volleyball is first to come to mind, along with Women's Golf secondarily).

This team has turned into IU Football 2.0. Terrific defense but can't score. One goal in five games is bad. Year started with so much promise but lack of offense is now the undoing. Still believe in what Coach Erwin is doing long term but end of season has been a thud and went from safely in to out of NCAA Tournament.
-
IU does not have Gerstenberg tonight as she was called up to German National Team camp. The only health goalie right now is Caitlin Arbuckle who is a senior and has appeared in one game. Defense has been stellar all year, but playing top teams with a new person between the pipes is not ideal. That tie against Maryland has dropped IU's RPI in the 40's and on the bubble with only good team lefts. That tie against the Terps is probably going to be so damaging it keeps them out of NCAA Tournament unless they beat the odds and upset someone. Given the lack of offense, I would not be surprised if we lose last three (last two regular season games and Big Ten Tournament) and what was a great season ends on down note. Still believe in Coach Erwin and he has been dealt a really bad hand at end here, but he does need to fine some scorers in the offseason to continue the turnaround. He certainly has made team better since he has been here but still more work to do.

Good for her. I am not sure what that says about New Zealand from a soccer perspective that a backup player for IU is among the best players in their country. That is not a knock on her or the Hoosiers and this is a great honor, but a back-up college player being called up, says a lot for the state of soccer in that country and it cannot be to good.
