You make the call with the offer in hand. You don't call and say "Brad, let's talk about this". What is there to talk about? What is there to learn? You know who Brad Stevens is at this point. I am fully aware the answer was going to be no, but you call with an offer and make him say no to the actual offer not the process. If you disagree cool. Agree to disagree then. Any time the job is open you make a call to Boston and you OFFER him the job. Period. If/when he says no oh well. You tried. Not even making that call is ridiculous. You make the call and you make him say no. Now to be clear before I have people jump down my throat. I DO NOT HATE THIS HIRE. I am very much getting excited about it after the initial "meh" response I had. I just find it ridiculous that Fred didn't make an offer to a big time guy. Especially after his presser to start the process.
