Game Thread: Indiana vs Michigan State (8PM EST BTN)
nerdvana replied to Trish's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If anybody should ask, you can find me drowning my sorrows in the cool, refreshing waters of Lake Apathy. Come on in boys, the water's fine! -

IUBB vs Providence - 11/30/20 @ 2:15 ET
nerdvana replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I suppose I could live with it if it were, in fact, entertaining. Listening to a wannabe philosopher who seemed largely uninterested in the game doesn't do much for me. The "highlight" was when he asked the play-by-play guy to name his top three waterfalls. -
If You Could Add One Past Player.....
nerdvana replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I truly believe that Yogi almost single-handedly extended Tom Crean's coaching tenure at IU. His talent and leadership were really something to watch. He, Jared Jeffries, and possibly Steve Alford, have had the most individual impact of any players in my lifetime. -
I was talking to a returning position player a few weeks ago and had a pretty interesting conversation. It's probably not worth starting a new topic, but thought I'd share a bit for those following IU baseball. Trying to recall what he told me, but the main points were Mercer's coaching philosophy is more of a "professional baseball" approach that Lemonis. He said that there isn't much emphasis on bunting and "small ball" in general. Essentially, from what I gathered, hitters are looking to drive the ball regardless of count and situation (with some exceptions, I'm sure). Overall, there's a lot more BP, weight lifting, and emphasis on nutrition and conditioning. He said that team chemistry is good right now and that the new coaching staff has been well received by the players. Of course, it's hard to keep everybody happy during the season, so I'm sure some things will change in that regard. But, it sounds like so far, so good from his standpoint.

I won't be shocked if Glass offers the job to current pitching coach Kyle Bunn. Not the sexiest hire on the planet, but he has a really strong baseball pedigree and brings continuity to a team with a fair amount of talent returning.

Post Game Discussion: Indiana - 68 vs Seton Hall - 84
nerdvana replied to Trish's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
To me, just the fact that I was able to sit through a double-digit loss speaks volumes. The game was far from perfect and seeing the reality that is IU's team this year stings a bit, but I just remind myself that IU's games were darn near unwatchable the latter half of last season. Lord knows how much I DO NOT miss the offense burning the first fifteen seconds of shot clock running a three man weave 27 feet from the hoop. -
Stupidest Miller Take - Crispin on BTN

I agree. I'd have some respect for Jon Crispin's point of view if it were remotely his own, but he's really just recycling the stuff he's heard from the major sports news pundits. It's always the same "Tom Crean did this and accomplished that, but apparently that's not good for IU's delusional fan base." Tom Crean's "ceiling" didn't get him fired, his "floor" did. I agree that our fan base (as well as every other major program) has a small, but very outspoken group of idiots, but most IU fans I knew really just grew tired of the product on the court. All the turnovers, defensive lapses, and weak half court offense was the problem. The fact that Tom Crean had no idea how to address these problems is what got him fired. -

Consider yourself lucky. :) -
Well, now I want Billy Donovan AND lemon meringue pie. Thanks a lot!

Obvious Photoshop... :)

There's also a lot of noise that suggests that he's happy where he is.

I used to be a hard core peegster back when they were on rivals and Kent Sterling used to always post there. Can't remember his username...it was "penny"-something-or-other. Anyway, he was always pimping his idiotic blog and was generally ignored by the other posters. Until the past couple of months, I hadn't frequented IU board so I'm not sure what happened, but somehow Kent Sterling has a radio show. How the heck does that happen? Never was a fan of the guy. People get on Dakich for trolling, but Sterling is 10 times worse IMO.
-
I agree. I'll be pretty disappointed if it's Alford, but I know a lot of very wealthy old guys, who don't frequent message boards, who would be thrilled to death. At the end of the day, appeasing rich alums and keeping money rolling in is the true goal of the AD.
-
If it helps keep the candle burning, there's a guy on Peegs premium board that swears that Donovan's wife was in Bloomington looking for real estate. This was posted today at 11:25 AM. Personally, I remain unconvinced, but I'm just throwing it out there for public consumption.

This remind me of the famous paradox "Schrodinger's Coach". Simultaneously a done deal and not interested.

2017 March Madness Tournament Thread
nerdvana replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
My son was talking about how old the bald kid looks on Dayton. So, I had to tell him about Granville Waiters who used to play for Ohio State. Anybody here old enough to remember that guy? Guy was playing college basketball, but he looked like after the game he'd get in his Buick and drive home to his wife and three kids in the suburbs. -
Dakich taking phone calls and he's getting his equivalent of "Dittoheads". It's just a bunch of half-wits kissing his butt and agreeing that Steve Alford *must* be IU's next coach. I just don't get the idea that IU needs an "IU guy" because other guys don't "get it". What's there to get? Any solid X and Os coach that comes here and recruits the state will be an IU guy in no time.
-
Yep, Dakich is reading the press release right now...
-
I've read so much crap it's all a blur at this point, but there was some guy on one of the boards saying that Fife was a one year stop gap for IU until we got Donovan. I don't believe it for a second, but that's the first thing I thought of.
-
No idea who this guy is or what he knows, but here it is...
-
I know I won't. The NIT game was the first one I have watched in a month and a half and all it did was confirm that I'm done with IU basketball while Tom Crean is the coach. I'm not going to go root for another team, but I just don't see the point of spending my free time (and money) doing something that brings displeasure.
-
Problem is...when Fred Glass moves on, then we'll just get more of the same.
-
I keep saying that and, yet, here I am.
-
Not only that, but he's been in the NCAA tourney 3 of the past 4 years, which is once more than IU during that timeframe.
