I don't follow CBB that closely outside of the Big Ten these days, so I not all that familiar with the current state of LSU, but I can see some parallels between them and Marquette when TC took over there. Probably many on this board are a bit too young to remember the Dale Brown days, but they were very good during his tenure. Bob Knight absolutely hated Dale Brown, and vice versa, so it made them that much more interesting. Brown stuck around a bit too long (IMO) and was super shady, so he didn't leave the program in great condition and the program has struggled ever since, minus a good year here and there. Say what you will about TC, but he really did a good job resurrecting Marquette. Even the fans that couldn't stand him after he left admitted as much. Of course, I'm not sure if they'd be willing to pay anything close to what he's making here. But, given the chance, I think TC could have a pretty good career down there.

I don't know.... I really have a soft spot for Dakich. I guess it's because I used to play a lot of softball against him "back in the day" (as he would say) when he was a graduate assistant at IU. The funny thing is that's he was pretty much the same on the softball field as he is on the air. Dude loved to talk to anybody and everybody. It would have been a bit annoying if it were just some random guy, but it was pretty cool since he was an IU player from my childhood.

This was my take as well.

Yeah, I wouldn't read too much into this. I heard weeks ago that Hartman had no intention of playing next year. Even before all the speculation about Crean leaving took legs.

On IU's dime?

That's what is scary though. Assuming all the rumors are true, Fred Glass is putting whether or not Crean returns in the hands of others...and 85% confidence of that happening isn't good enough in my book. Plus, the fact that Crean and his staff are out recruiting people seems to lead one to believe that he thinks there is a significant chance he will be here next year. Anyway, thanks for sharing the info.

I've worked at IU Bloomington since 1995 and, in that time, it's always been half-price for dependents. As employees, we get 3 free credit hours and then 3 half priced credit hours each semester. Granted, I'm a staff member, so it's possible that it's different for faculty, but I'm pretty sure it's the same for everybody.

It varies depending on the institution. Children of IU employees get 50% off tuition.

This topic has taken an unexpected turn!

Count me as one who on the Brownell bandwagon when Crean was hired. I still think he's a pretty solid coach, but things certainly haven't panned out as expected at Clemson. Shows what I know!

It's funny because I visit the Scout site some and they have convinced themselves that Donovan wants to come here and, if he doesn't, it will be Fred Glass' fault. It's amazing what groupthink can do to a fan base.

My guess is that there are plenty of places that want Crean, but, the question to me is would he go there? I think Tom Crean is basically a good guy, but I also thing he has a pretty big ego. He'd likely go to Missouri or NC State (or some other power conference job that may open up), but I'm not sure that he'd take a mid-major job at this point. And why would he? The way I understand it, he'll get paid either way so why settle?

Michael McNeely was terrible. I think people forget about how much he screwed up the athletic department in his short time here. Rick Greenspan actually was really good with the alumni from what I always heard. The thing people remember him for, however, was hiring Kelvin Sampson. I'm not saying he shouldn't shoulder some of the blame, but he did not want Sampson at all. That was 100% Adam Herbert's decision because he wanted a minority hire.

I don't know why people even talk about getting Mark Few anymore. He was the "hot coach" for about a decade, but he obviously is happy at Gonzaga. Don't blame him either because he's got a really good thing going there. I think people sometimes forget that there are some people that can't be bought.

The "soft landing" stuff is what's worrisome to me. I feel like if Crean was definitely gone after this season, this wouldn't even be talked about.

So your breaking news is that we should drink Tullamore Dew? I feel like Ralphie when he gets the decoder pin in A Christmas Story.

By text?

The stuff from Hoosier Pap or something different?

That's what she said.

I just found out that Tom Crean is related to Mark Gottfried (albeit by marriage). I wonder if that has any effect on him considering the NC State job.

It's because the media only look at tangible things...wins, losses, injuries, ratings for recruiting classes, big ten titles, etc. Effectively, things they can do apples to apples comparisons with to other coaches. What they don't take into consideration are things like wacky substitution patterns, players getting lost on defense, a half court offense that often doesn't even seem to attempt to get the ball within the 3 point line until there are 5 seconds on the shot clock, and, my personal favorite, continuing to run a set that seems to consist of a clear out so that Thomas Bryant can go one-on-one 20 feet from the basket. Those are things we are seeing, but aren't really great metrics for a journalism piece.

Kent Sterling is talking about Crean and the IU job right now: http://www.cbssports1430.com/pages/15799772.php

Unfortunately, the Mavs already have a coach. But, maybe they could hire him as the Director of Clapping and Sign Making.
