I'm ready for 2016 IU Football
Miller'sTheMan replied to HoosierReb01's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
I'm more worried about the D-Line than the secondary tbh. Losing Latham was a big loss, Hoff and Green need to step up big time. -
The koolade is wearing off.

On paper I think our defense should be a lot better. The extra experience in the secondary between Andre Brown and Jonathan Crawford alone should be enough to improve that unit significantly, and the reports of Marcelino Ball having a great camp are encouraging. We already know we have a couple good players back there in Chase Dutra and Rashard Fant. On paper the linebackers should be one of the top units in the B1G between Tegray Scales and Marcus Oliver. The real weak point for the defense is at the D-Line right now. Robinson and Gooch are really going to have to step up at the defensive end positions, and Hoff/Green need to at least be respectable on the inside against the run. The depth along the defensive line is also pretty concerning. Add all the units up though and I don't think it's unrealistic to expect some solid improvement from the defense as a whole. Also, I disagree with your point on comparing Zander to Randle El... Not because Zander would ever be that good, but because the Indiana offense as a whole has more talent than when Randle El played. Redding was a 1,000+ yard rusher last season... And Wilson still says Camion Patrick is the best player on the team at RB. The offensive line has been one of the better units in the B1G for the last few years now and that's expected to continue, and our WR core is stacked between Ricky Jones, Simmie Cobbs, and Mitchell Paige with a lot of promising depth behind them as well. -

Damn that sucks for J-Shun, he had such a promising freshmen year and now 2 straight seasons with a torn ACL. At least we're loaded on receivers. -

I agree, but the BTN guys did say his arm looked noticeably improved. -

Wish we could see the scrimmage :(. I'd like to have an idea on who we're going to roll with at QB! Would definitely like to see how much Zander's arm as improved by as well. -

Here's a couple quotes about how Zander did at practice while the BTN crew was there, some encouraging stuff: — Personally, from my view at Monday’s practice, Diamont had a few very strong throws downfield. We saw more touch and accuracy on Diamont’s deep ball than I can remember seeing during each of the past two seasons. One of his best throws came while he was rolling out and passing on the run to Donavan Hale along the sideline. Griffith, too, liked what he saw from Diamont on Monday. “Zander’s done an outstanding job of trying to make plays with his legs and it does look like his arm has gotten a lot stronger this year,” he said. “I think he made some outstanding throws today. Lagow, I think, has to continue to get into this offense and continue to be comfortable. He can throw it around, as well. I think it’s going to be tough to name a guy early.” -

Dave Revsine @BTNDaveRevsine 7m7 minutes ago Leaving IU. QB situation clearly biggest issue - tons of weapons if they figure it out. D appears better under Tom Allen - like attitude -

Has there been any talk of who's the favorite for the starting QB spot between Lagow/Zander? -
Solo is shooting about 32% from 3 on the season, not 22%.
-
Well it depends upon how severe the tear of the ACL is. But yes, some partial ACL tears can require surgery.
-
If its a partial tear then 5-6 months sounds right.

Has the secondary looked any good in Spring? We had a couple new additions I was excited about, but they were definitetly out Achilles heel last season. -

I really can't see Cameron just suddenly becoming a great passer, so I'd rather roll with the guy who can make things happen with his legs if the passing game fails. Wasnt Cameron a back-up in high school too? It's nothing personal against him, but he's a walk-on QB who was mainly a back-up in high school who was far from impressive in the one game he appeared in. I think it's fair to be skeptical of his abilities. -

I'd rather roll with Zander than Cameron if I'm being honest. -

He was pretty bad in the limited amount of snaps he got last season. -

Unless Zander has gotten stronger and can throw the ball significantly better than last season, he shouldn't be the starter by any means. -
He was at the IU-UK game.

I think an improved OG and a healthy Blackmon can replace a lot of Yogi's offensive production. Someone needs to replace his leadership though.
-
I mean we even have solid depth there, Hartman started most of this season, Morgan is pretty solid off the bench and I even think Curtis Jones will be helpful off the bench even if it's only for his shooting (though I think he can create some too). That's not even mentioning Green and Newkirk too.
-
If Bryant returns our (possible) starting line-up will be insanely good defensively... Johnson/Blackmon/OG/Davis/Bryant Add Jones, Hartman, Morgan, Green, and Newkirk off the bench and we have depth as well. If Bryant returns I think we have a shot at being better than this year's team especially if Blackmon can replace Yogi's scoring and improve defensively.

Let's just go ahead and use Patrick all over the field! Running back, Receiver doesn't matter just get him on the field. -

Listening to RoJo talk, it sounds like he expects to play.
