If we are indeed focusing our attention on Sean Miller now, I wonder what impact that would have on Archie if/when Sean turns us down? You'd certainly expect Archie to find out about it. Would he be resentful about being 2nd or 3rd choice? Or, could we be going through Sean to guage his interest or his brother's interest? LOL. It's something to ponder while we wait for something concrete.

We're mostly dealing with speculation, rumors, and opinions - and I think most of us realize that. We'll likely get little to no advance info when a new coach is named. That said, even if there was a meeting between IU and BD's representatives, I really really doubt that it would leak out or details of such a meeting would get past the meeting room door. For word to somehow get out that a currently employed coach was negotiating for another job, it could do irreparable damage to both sides. That's just my take on it. Also, negotiations with a NBA coach of a playoff team are fraught with extreme issues as far as timing goes. Ultimately we'll know when we know. It'll be one of the 4 or 5 names we've all speculated on - or it won't. It's just theater for us at this juncture.
-
Damnit. Oh well, what could have been. Good news is that if we believe this (no BD) - we WILL be getting a new coach.

If someone knows a source for this rumor other than the one post by IUWINS0708 last night, please share. 0708's post was " Meeting with Billy's agent today I was told late last night after I fell asleep " and no one seems to be questioning if it was a joke or not. God, I do hope it's true, and if so goes well for us, but that post seems more like he was just having a little fun.

That flight took well over 2 hours, I (want to) believe any high-level travel would involve small jets rather than single prop jobs. I just looked and that plane is scheduled to depart Bloomington for DC/Baltimore shortly, so it would seem very unlikely GM was on board.
-
Probably that there's a lot more traffic in and out of KBMG than many of us ever imagined. LOL.
-
True. While there could be numerous reasons for it, I may get a little queasy if I see one to/from East Lansing....

Chaos and speculation is probably just what Glass hopes for. Media personalities probably don't know much more than we do - it's 99% speculation at this point. Whatever the case, it is kind of fun to watch things transpire.

Hey, there's an interest twist (just for giggles, of course): There is also a flight scheduled to depart for OKC (and this one's a twin jet plane) around noon. LOL, now that's sounds better!
-
Look below the arrivals section, bottom left side of the page under "enroute/scheduled". It appears that plane also recently went between Wichita and Texas and is a single engine Cessna. Hopefully it's just a coinkyink. Another poster on TRS believes it's likely nothing to be alarmed about.

There's a link on TRS that appears to show a flight from Wichita to Btown scheduled to depart right about now (9 am CST). Here's the link: https://flightaware.com/live/airport/KBMG

I'm very skeptical about the Mizzou guy claiming Glass was at the MVC tourney (to presumably meet with Marshall). I can't imagine there's any way an AD would publicly be watching or meeting with an employed coach. I mean, the AD for WSU wouldn't be real happy if that were to occur and I don't see Glass betraying such a professional courtesy. I also wouldn't think WSU would grant permission for their coach to be contacted by a potential suitor before the season is over. JMO. If CTC canceled his trip to watch a recruit, it certainly could be because he needed to go somewhere else (via jet, hint hint). At least I hope so.

Something that I find both amusing and incredible: It's looking like we'll make a coaching change and ILL will retain Groce. LOL

I suspect a number of injuries are a result of over training, or something like that. I recall several years ago listening to an interview with Pete Rose where the interviewer asked him about the increasing number of injuries. He basically said that today's players (at that time citing Eric Davis) tended to get injured more often because they were so lean and finely tuned. He cited his own durability and attributed it to having some cushion (fat) on his bones. LOL. I think there's some truth to this, but it applies to all sports and all teams - every team's fans think they have too many critical injuries (when Mo Creek had his two fluke injuries, Hummel went through two blown out knees as an example).
-
I can't disagree with these thoughts. IMO, we WILL have defections - who and how many will depend on what FG does. If he does nothing, I can see a significant exodus. If he brings in a homerun type hire, it can be minimized. Being over signed, we need there to be some attrition - especially if the new coach is to bring anyone new in. I'll add one thing: I believe Newkirk can be a solid contributor if he's reigned in and given a defined role. The current helter-skelter style of play is a recipe for bad decisions and turnovers. That's a major weakness that must be corrected.

She doesn't use an alias like 'hoosiertildeath' does she? LOL

Your friend is an example of modern day IU "settlers" - fans that no longer have high expectations. That kind of thinking is why our football program is historically garbage. I share this feeling. I'm getting to an age (mid 50's) where I feel that another lackluster hire may just mean never seeing my team pose a realistic threat for #6. There is absolutely no excuse for not making a significant upgrade to the coaching position. If not now, then when?

Game Thread : Indiana vs Purdue (7:00PM EST, ESPN2)

I don't believe I've ever been less upset after a loss to the University of Giant Drum. Pure apathy towards this team as it currently sits. -

Maybe he had to rush to get to a job interview.... -
I have no idea how attractive CTC would be to Mizzou, but one thing going for him is that he's shown a better ability to recruit that state than Indiana recently.

Coach Search 2017 IU Candidate: Billy Donovan (OKC Thunder)
pumpfake replied to Feathery's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
That's an interesting take and one I wouldn't have thought of. Right now there aren't really many ex-IU guys out there (at least not currently head coaches), so I suppose Fife would be the most prominent of the group. -
Coach Search 2017 IU Candidate: Billy Donovan (OKC Thunder)

I saw that last night and had the same reaction. Wasn't there some Sesame Street song about "One of these things is not like the others, one of these things doesn't belong"? Personally, the level of disappointment I'd feel if they hired Fife would be as intense as the elation I'd feel if it were Billy D. (or even the other four coaches on that list). -
On another site someone posted league W-L totals for the last 4 seasons. IU is 8th. Eighth! Last night on the broadcast they listed our league final position for each of the last several (6?) seasons, and it averaged somewhere around 7th. Unless that is considered successful (even tolerable) out West, I'd say it's obvious a change is needed.

Please let this be true!

Game Thread : Indiana vs Northwestern (Senior Night)
pumpfake replied to Trish's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
To me, the claim that a given coach is a great developer of talent because he gets players into the NBA seems a bit overblown when it's also said that the NBA drafts on potential. We've had guys leave early that didn't improve exponentially (although I'd have to say Victor did). It seems like that reputation is more of a recruiting chip than a strong measure of coaching prowess.
