  1. With the right amount of money coaches can be bought. Would he have to be overpaid, definitely. But that is where fans expect the program to be. Totally invested into winning. We are shopping the bargain aisle, overpaying the discount coach, and ignoring better options. Sad state of affairs if we can’t bring in someone who would be a top 5 B1G coach.
  2. Would our program be winning now if we would have hired Calipari when he was ready to leave Kentucky? Pitino when he was ready to live Siena? For the right amount of money most coaches can be gotten. The question is are we really interested in bringing in, and paying top coaches? We’ve lost our recruiting footprint from the laziness of Woodson but one elite recruiter could fix that in a season. And with genuine curiosity what do you see of DeVries that makes you think he is a winner? I see it the opposite but am looking for anything optimistic.
  3. We don’t need to give a coach that much time. We knew the previous coaches weren’t going to cut it yet drove more fans to apathy by keeping them too long. Hire a top coach and get top results. It really is that simple. Employee coaches that are bottom tier in the B1G and get bottom tier results
  4. He was getting a lot of the praise as an assistant at UCLA when they made a run to the final four. Cronin gave him a lot of public praise for his game planning
  5. Hard to give him a pass. Poor recruiting and inability to hire a staff in a timely manner is a major red flag. Has no evaluation skills as evidenced by the team he assembled and admitted he basically didn’t understand his job (Big Ten basketball). Little to no player development and a lack of scheming ability. Is there any coach in the Big Ten that DeVries would be better than? He is likely no better than 10th and has just been exposed and embarrassed by most of the league this year
  6. Trying to find optimism in this, the “best recruiting class in Purdue history” won’t have the opportunity to get a winning record against IU
  7. It’s on the coach and the players. The players wanted to make a big show about being disappointed about losing to NW the first time. If I remember right Tucker started crying in the press conference and Wilkerson said there is no way we should have lost to NW. Pure theatre. You don’t feel that strong about losing to a team to come out and get rolled by them two weeks later. Clown show all the way around
  8. It does at least make it interesting to follow all of these conference tournaments. Found myself watching pacific and Santa Clara at Midnight on a Sunday hoping for an upset! Still think the 2nd scenario we would be about 50/50 if some of our fellow bubble teams drop their next games
  9. Looks like there are a fair amount of people who still have IU in or one of first out. Even with the letdown yesterday it js still doable. refuse to believe that Auburn is being seriously considered at all. Maybe a first round win and all of our competition keeps losing helps us back into a spot :)
  10. I’m still holding out hope we win the first game and get Central time zone UCLA. That could be our best bet
  11. So we looking now at 3 in the BTT with the loss tonight?
  12. There is part of me that is glad most of these guys won’t be back
  13. Gotta love the irony of the missed foul on DeVries three pointer against NW and seeing Purdue get bailed out by Smith getting 3 free throws on a phantom foul against NW late in the game
  14. Potentially the win may be needed in the BTT because of the likelihood we are playing one of the bottom tier teams in the first one. More about avoiding a bad loss than improving our position
  15. Got to think the win @ UCLA may turn out to be a big one. From what I’m seeing we may match up against UCLA again in our 2nd game in the BTT and if we win that and both of us are still bubble teams I think that would bode well for us. Assuming we don’t drop the Minnesota game Wednesday
  16. Genuine question, no snark intended and our prior discussion notwithstanding, do you know or have a connection to someone who knows this recruit? If not and he hasn’t said publicly then we really don’t know if anything changed for him today
  17. In all fairness you called us all “POS fans”. I’m actually one of the more traditional fans that hate court storming and profane chants but am tired of the fans being scapegoated into what has clearly been malpractice handling of our program. I don’t love that they target one of our own players but also understand the frustration and when you miss the tournament annually thing can boil over. Our fans are the only thing that still separate us from Rutgers and Penn State.
  18. Mike Woodson is that you? Here we go blaming the fans again….
  19. Gonna take more than a good recruit to fix what is going on. Decades of bad decisions and screwing up something that should be easy tends to build up frustration. Add in a coach that most didn’t want along with players who are getting rich off of losing and it does have consequences
  20. POS fanbase? Don’t like getting booed then go back to the mid majors. Fans are sick of the last two decades and have every right to boo whoever they want. No accountability or toughness. Bring more effort, play hard and smart and it takes care of itself. The fans/donors are the only reason that a recruit may consider us. It certainly wouldn’t be because of our mid major coach and players
  21. Thanks for the info here. True question for everyone but is UCLA really much better than IU
  22. I don’t disagree and watch the play in games every year as well. Never really thought about the financial side of it but that does make sense. Essentially then it is more beneficial for a 16 seed to get put in the play in game
  23. I agree and hate the play in games especially for the 16 seeds. If they got an autobid let them play in the actual bracket instead of what amounts to an extension of their conference tournaments.
  24. I’d love to see what Collin’s could do here with the ability to tap into more talent. He’s a solid coach that is able to exploit matchup advantages wherever available and knows the rigors of B1G play. All that aside, if we lose to MSU, does anyone thing that the two games against Minnesota and OSU, paired with two B1G tournament wins could keep us in the conversation?
  25. Can we use next year’s NIL money to pay a buyout? Then it’s money well spent
