So Crean thinks he's made some big public statement about accountability and keeping negative influences away from his team by getting rid of HMP...and these guys are basically giving Crean the finger by partying with the guy. It's one thing if guys are out drinking when Coach doesn't want them to...but being out drinking with probably the ONE GUY that Crean clearly wants them all to stay away from is just a whole new level of apathy toward what your coach has to say.

Since Hanner was apparently WITH Holt and Bryant while they were cited, we're talking about two separate possible incidents (Hanner at Yogi's apartment and Hanner with Holt/Bryant/unnamed freshman).

Hard to explain. I feel like players at many of the top schools are able to switch gears pretty quickly from being told they're "God's Gift to Basketball" in the recruiting process (natural) to figuring out that the same coach who couldn't kiss their butts enough while they were in high school will now have no problem kicking their butts in college. Our players seem to struggle with that concept and just keep thinking they're doing all of IU-fandom "a favor" by playing basketball for this team.

They weren't arrested for drinking it, they were cited for being in possession of it. Still illegal. No blood test required. However, as was mentioned earlier in this thread, exactly what do you think they were going to do with the alcohol they were already illegally possessing? Do you think the excise police should have just tailed them for a few hours and waited to see if they decided to drink the alcohol before citing them?

You know what else won't shut those people up? Fighting these charges in court. You seem to be the only one around here advocating this approach. If you think this is what the fanbase wants, then I think you're sorely misreading the fanbase.

The legal consequences are basically nothing. It's not worth the time and money to fight it. It's the public perception that's the problem, and there's no going back from that right now. Plea and get it over with legally.

If they were in a parking lot, no one was "driving." If the others in the car weren't minors, they wouldn't be cited for minor possession.

Amend that slightly to include the fact that since we're in the off-season, it would likely be a 2 game suspension from the preseason exhibition games.

This is me admittedly stretching things and moving into speculation, but there were two people cited and three others in the car. One could assume those other three weren't cited because they weren't minors. Anyone completely convinced that there were only two IU basketball players in that car?

And what exactly do you think they were going to do with the unopened bottles of vodka??? Sell them to raise money for the needy??? Let's not give them too much credit. Getting arrested before you have the chance to do anything stupid with the alcohol you're already illegally in possession of doesn't mean you've seen the error of your ways.

A life-threatening or career-ending injury that was, let's say, "more probable or not" a result of two people on this team messing around and illegally using substances they weren't supposed to be using. DD is already pretty much a guy who should be talking at high school convocations about the dangers of underage drinking...and HMP was just lucky he got pulled over before getting in a situation where he'd end up as a presenter at "Scared Straight - The IU Basketball Edition." Are these guys trying to bring back "After School Specials" or what?!? I guess we have Exhibits A and B for "This is your brain on drugs..." because the decision-making here is pretty questionable. These are repeat offenders - not just based on rumors or secret-IU-drug-tests, but by actual incidents where the POLICE had to get involved.

Can't believe no one has brought up Royce Waltman's ISU assistant coach... Dick Bender. Tell me that's not a name that brings fear into the heart of even the strongest man.
