IUFB Offseason/Transfer Portal News
kreigh8 replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Thank you. "One time" there does appear to be some restrictions in that case. All for more player freedom, but not sure even I could get on board with players transferring every year until they find a place that they will play -
IUFB Offseason/Transfer Portal News

I'm a bit in the dark due to not paying attention, but are all players in the portal eligible immediately? Is the portal expected to survive beyond Covid? -
Galloway played a lot of PG for CMA - I wonder if he'd get thrown there at all. I still think X with Phin behind him if fine - there are larger issues such as getting open looks for Parker and Kopp and some movement when the ball goes into TJD, personally, but Trey coming back could be a boost. Not enough perhaps, but a lift of sorts

Thought about this today and had this run across my mind when thinking about those who want Lander in. Would IU have been able to keep the score as close as it was if Lander was in. We've seen his defensive inefficiencies already and have a hunch that's the main factor for him not seeing the floor. I've yet to see him really prove that offensively he'd be an upgrade over Phin or X - so with him in do we have a chance to win at the end of the game? Only something you can think of or run through a simulator of sorts, but something I thought of and pondered on a slow Monday after a frustrating loss. My hunch is we'd give up far more drives to the basket and would need more buckets to make up the difference which we struggle to get.

How about the shade that Devonte Green got??? That dude essentially won 2 games by himself his senior year and there were several posters counting the days until he was gone. We've needed some of that outside shooting since he left and based off last night's performance are still in need of. Indiana HS guys are getting far too much slack than those from outside the state, in my mind. I.E. Lander, Phinisee
-
Jordan maybe. Phinisee is fine where he's at. Need a ball handler off the bench and he's not scoring near enough for how much he has the ball to be thrusted in the starting 5.

The margin for error for these Hoosiers is incredibly small as seen today against a mediocre Penn St team. Not sure Woodson has the luxury of throwing Lander out there to see what happens. Hoping for Lander contributions in 2021-22 season is a fools-errand in my mind barring an injury -
“Hey Lama, how about something you know, for the effort?”

Obviously jaded by today’s defeat but I’m not hopeful. Mentally defeated after today and I’m not seeing where the improvement can/will come from. Needed today’s win. Penn St giving us all we could handle doesn’t give me much hope for the rest of the conference opponents. Someone talk me off the ledge lol

I don’t do much looking at the quad rankings but if we’re having to hope for ND wins to make the win a Q2 win, they can’t be that good, no?

One thing that I think was needed was a talent infusion. Time will tell, but can Woodson get the necessary talent if IU has another mediocre to subpar season? Bates and JHS were positive indicators, but will that continue to trend upward if this season nosedives in conference play as it has in the past few years? -

Only Tommy Callahan went to school for 7 years and didn't become a doctor. Race has been on a college campus for a loong time, assume he'd be ready for his next phase in life? -

Agreed and there's another problem. They start and play heavy minutes. Galloway coming back soon will help solve some of the defensive issues from those two, but he's not proved to be a factor on offense yet. Leal wasn't a factor today. I'm afraid we have a bunch of mismatched parts. I hate to say it, but IU just might not be very good. Bates hasn't put it together yet and he'd be a lift on offense, but not sure it'd matter if everyone is just watching when the ball goes into TJD. Not much movement on that end of the floor -

Guard play is a desperate need. Hate to look ahead to having JHS, but he might solve some of the guard play issues, but will we have any bigs on the roster when he gets on campus? Back to the Crean roster mismanagement? Tough time to be an IU fan -

That's fair, but at the same time our defense wasn't that great tonight. Penn St had plenty of open 3's tonight. They definitely hit some tough contested looks, but there were plenty of open 3's with no red uniforms around -

Give up 11 3's only hit 4 ourselves. Archie ball recipe still in full effect -

We're not very good at getting quality looks. Probably the best to take the first one you get and hope for a rebound -

Depends what you define transition as. I certainly don't expect a 63 year old to be here for 20+ years. But if he can coach here for 10 years and make the tourney 90% of the time, I'd be happy with that relative to what I've sat and watched the past 6 years or so -

I don't think Dolson or anyone else for that matter expected him to take CBB by storm, but more get us back to stable ground of making the tournament year in year out. IF he can do that, we are a much more attractive destination when we search for the next coach when he decides he's had enough. -

Uhh TJD what was that?? He go up undecided on dunking it or laying it in? -

My biggest criticism of Woodson so far is I don't think IU is deep as he'd hope and I don't think we have any business doing the NBA line changes we've seen. TJD and Thompson are sitting for far too long for my taste. Had thought that was a non-conference thing, but generally get the impression that that is how he prefers it. I just don't think we have the personnel to do that effectively. Some may disagree -

No, not the kind of different I'm looking for. We saw that already against Cuse anyway so not totally off the mark. -

I'm just wanting to try something different on that end as opposed to whatever we are running right now. I still am not sure there's much a plan outside of throw it to TJD and watch
