    Coach Curt Cignetti to INDIANA

Cignetti's foot has to be so tired from delivering so many @$$ kickings. On behalf of all Hoosier fans and all past incompetent administrations, I'm sorry you weren't hired 30 years ago. To Mr. Dolson: Just build the man a statue already. Also, a major pay raise has been earned along with staff increases. For those interested, here are his contract details: https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/college/indiana/2023/12/13/indiana-football-curt-cignetti-contract-27-million-iu-six-seasons/71911438007/

    General Coach Candidate News

Dedicated IU Faithful: "Mr. Dolson, it's been a woefully long time since the basketball program has shown any semblance of a return to prominence; could you at least give us some minor reassurance regarding your plan to replace Archie Miller to make IU relevant again in light of all these conflicting 'insider sources,' player transfer portal entries and social media reports claiming to know what's going on?" Scott Dolson: "Well, you know, my plan has a lotta ins, a lotta outs, a lotta what-have-you's... And uh, a lotta strands to keep in my head, man. Lotta strands in old Dolson's head. Luckily I'm adhering to a pretty strict, uh, coaching candidate regimen to keep my mind, you know, limber."
  3. This was explained to me once by some long time Indiana residents: generally speaking, people in Louisville consider themselves as part of Indiana, just as people in Evansville consider themselves as part of Kentucky. And yes, that is meant as a left handed compliment to Evansvillians....

    Declaring early for the draft

I haven't watched Stone a great deal, but his numbers the same as TB's with one having a better FG% and the other having 2 more ppg (and a 1 game suspension!) Draft Xpress has Stone a mid round #1, just wondering what the difference is between him and TB, other than 10#'s and 1 inch, that makes one a 1st round pick and the other not.

    Wilson agrees to 6-year contract

I said previously I thought it was premature as his record is identical to Lynch's so far (plus 3 B10 teams went bowling this year at 5-7, so I assume we would've too although I don't know our APR offhand), but 4 years on top of his remaining two isn't too bad so long as the buyout isn't  expensive.  This next season is the make or break in my opinion: .500 teams feasting on cupcakes and losing in the postseason isn't acceptable - this isn't basketball after all.....

Wilson and Glass Talking Extension Soon?

How is he supposed to recruit if his contract doesn't even last until the recruits are IU-bound? IU football just made a bowl game. Let's keep this guy forever.[/quote]   I'm impatient I guess and have a low tolerance for sustained sub par performance (Thanks Coach Crean!). Other high profile programs have no problem hiring and firing coaches on the eve of bowl games, or even mid season, every year and seem to do just fine recruiting. I suppose I want us in the 100M olympic dash when we are still in JV level track as a program success wise, but we certainly shouldnt be chomping at the bit to extend at this very minute.

Wilson and Glass Talking Extension Soon?

Seems premature to me. Another bowl game next year would warrant discussion of an extension. So far Wilson is Lynch 2.0: Lynch overall 19-30 .388, B10 6-26 .188, one bowl game appearance Wilson overall 20-40 .333, B10 8-32 .200, one bowl game appearance (and hopefully win)

Devin Davis cited for marijuana possession

Is it too late to reach out to April? Seems like he would be a better use of a scholly than DD or HP at this point.
  9. Yahoo has the story, sounds like Durant is personally involved in the effort.

    Reports: Donovan to NBA thunder

Im trying to digest what this means for Cal. Stevens and Billy have been direclty pursued and hired by the NBA. Cal sh*t the bed in his NBA stint but has arguably done more than those two since then. He hasn't been pursued as aggressively. Aside from the rumors two years ago, is he content to stay at the college level like Izzo or is he seen as a joke to pro teams except for the occasional Cavs type owner who likes to play Dan Snyder with his team?

At least we can remedy our size problems next year with those two seven footers coming in. Oh, wait, never mind...

Indiana won't be Indiana until it wants to be Indiana

OP is spot on. Until we sack up and go make an offer a top guy can't refuse, we will be rolling the dice with mediocrity hoping a deep run materializes from a bubble team every year. Football is a little different but UM went and got Harbaugh, O$U got Urban, pUKe was fed up several years ago and got Teflon John, UN¢ snagged Roy, UL got slick Rick, etc. Those coaches were considered impossible to get at various points but look what happened. Saying we shouldn't pursue a top guy because we may not get one is garbage too. It reminds me of the opening scene in the movie 'Miracle' where Herb Brooks is mocked for saying he wants to beat the Soviets: "That's a pretty lofty goal Herb...". His response is " Well, that's why I want to pursue it". Seems apropos for where we are now.

IU v. Wisco Game Thread 2/3 7pm on ESPN

Serious question: have we held a team to less than 45% shooting this year? Tonight is over 70% so far, and i can't read call the last good defensive percentage we have held a team too. That is mind blowing: 70%! Not a tourney team giving up numbers like that.

    Recruiting Momentum

I think this thread is mislabeled and should've been titled "Unbalanced Recruiting" instead. I'm a big critic of Crean and don't think he is the guy to get it done long term, especially given the constant positional roster holes from unbalanced recruiting. But I have to defend him somewhat on missing out on that big list of targets posted before. A lot goes on behind the scenes that we will never know about which ends the recruitment of kids pretty fast. Lyles being "bought and paid for" is a good example. Not wanting to give a kid's high school coach/handler/dad an asst coaching job is another (Whitehead). Not being able to lower admit standards for guys who can't get even a failing SAT/ACT score is one too (Lyle). Character issues come up as well. If you think IU should be doing those things, then you absolutely should be pissed about missing out on some of those kids. IU isn't perfect but the program isn't as willing as others to get its hands dirty. That said, the seeming inability to look two years down the road and say "huh? I guess we don't have a 5 or a 1 in the pipeline so I guess we need one" is very troubling. But to think we missed out on guys we never wanted because of Crean is not a fair criticism.

    Devin Davis redshirting a season?

I was pondering something similar the other day: is he better off un-enrolling? I assume you can only be enrolled for so long before you actually have to attend classes. This semester I would assume he will receive incompletes for as I doubt he can attend class while rehabbing. It isn't a big leap to assume that he won't take classes in the spring either so best case is Summer 1. How long can one go before the university considers you inactive? For insurance reasons it makes sense to get a redshirt or hardship exemption, but if the NCAA won't grant the hardship (only speculating), it may make more sense to leave, re-enroll when he is mentally and physically healed, use the redshirt for that first season back in order to regain skills and shake off the rust, and finally return in 2 years. This all assumes he can ever play again obviously. Does anyone know what the university says as far as how long you can be enrolled before you have to attend classes? Do they grant leave of absences akin to FMLA in the workplace?

    IU vs. SMU Odds/Predictions

For me personally, the only certainty is uncertainty. This will be our first test against a decent team with an appreciable post presence. We have the shooters to score and I like the home floor, but it will be interesting to see how the returning players mesh back into game flow and most importantly, find out what our interior game is made of as well as what our game plan is to address any inside deficiencies. That said, it will be close as our shooters keep us in it, and I say we cover thanks to our improvement at the charity stripe. Brown will have them ready to play, especially after that drubbing they just took.

    Curt Miller's Son

My interpretation is that this, although possibly well founded, is more about the apparent appearance of impropriety vs. the actual disclosure of such. Think Percy Harvin here: is the success worth the possible headache?

    Curt Miller's Son

I will bite the proverbial bullet here. Curt "plays for the other team" and there may have been some inappropriate activity, not involving athletics mind you. His family dynamic is, um, dynamic, to say the least... Go ahead and shoot the messenger.

Wilson on the hot seat according to an idiot

Pass the mustard please, crow is too dry for me to eat without something to put on it. Before BG got a new head coach I had this gamed penned as a loss. That changed when we fired Mallory, they lost their head guy and especially after their QB went down. Apparently none of those things mattered as much as I thought. I suspect the bye hurt a little as we had two weeks to keep focused which can be hard to do. It really looks like we need to open the wallet and pay for some actual coaches though. $300k for coordinators isnt getting it done in a power 5 conference. This is from last year and it shows we are starting to pay decent but look at the total staff budget column. We can't find another $850k to move us up above the average for the good schools? We probably spend close to that in fireworks for home games. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/salaries/ncaaf/assistant/ This has the feel of another rough season based on yesterday....

IU vs ISU Post Game Thread

I was at the game today and came away with the following impressions:   We ran the ball.  We ran the ball a lot.  A LOT.  69 times vs 18 passing plays according to the box score.  Even stripping out 5 or so rushes for the broken plays where Nate ran or was sacked, we still ran the ball better than 75% of the time today.  I don't know if that was to build confidence in the run game or not give too much away before the next game, but we didn't throw until the 2nd half really.     Coleman looked good, as we know he is, and he absolutely tore up an inferior defense today.   We have some talent at TE supposedly, but I didn't see it utilized today.  The WR's are young and I did not see much that says the corps will be anywhere as good as last year.  Not throwing very much may have prevented the passing game from getting into a rhythm but it seemed like our WR's struggled to get separation.   KR needs work.  The fumble aside, our return man seemed intent on making a fair catch at all costs when he probably should've let a few go over his head.   The defense looks marginally better.  The Dline looks to be better than last year.  The CB's will be an area of concern most likely.  One thing that stood out to me is that our CB's and DB's regularly gave a 10 yd cushion at the line to the WR's they were covering.  One 3rd and 2 for ISU even had our guys playing 10yds off the line.  A strange scheme if you ask me.   There were a few times I and some fans seated near us were scratching our heads over play calling.  At the end of the first half we called time outs to stop the clock presumably but then proceeded to run out the clock and not take shots down field before the half expired.  Seemed odd.   ISU played hard but were largely outmatched.  A good warm up type game I think and now a week off to work on some things.   If anyone wants to make the trip down for a game and has 4 in their party, I highly recommend the family 4 pack ticket deal.  $100 gets you 4 tix, 4 hot dogs and 4 soda's.  A good deal considering the cost of everything.

    Transfers

I think there are some valid concerns here. I'm just speculating but if JBJ is as advertised, he could be a one and done. More improvement from Yogi along with more team oriented success could see him go pro as well. Hartman would be an obvious transfer possibility which sucks because he has been hurt and hasn't gotten a real chance to develop. We have a lot of guards who could potentially play the 1 if need be, but we are still without a true everyday 5 for at least two years unless we get a stud for '15 who can play right away. Of course we have a lot of length and may be getting 8-12pts per game from 6-7 guys this year so no big may be necessary in the immediate future. One thing is for sure though, this team will be a lot of fun to watch as far as shooting goes.

    K-Dub's speech at Hubers...

I would love to see the IU/pUKe football rivalry restored! Some heated, hate filled games back in the day that were always fun (It's Randel El bobble head day - they had a Jared Lorenzen one scheduled but it was too fat to fit in the box!). On a serious note, I doubt we ever see the bourbon barrel itself again. It was discontinued after some Kentucky football players were killed in a tragic drunk driving accident. Last I knew one of the IU coaches had it in their garage. Well, prob an ex IU coach by now. Still would love to see the rivalry restored!
