Enough of this fan banter. Indiana is a top 5 revenue basketball program. This is directly attributable to its large fan base. When is the last time Indiana was considered a top 5 basketball program? I'd say probably 20+ years ago, maybe 30. So until the results line up with the following and revenue generated by the fan base, there will continue to be loud disappointment with mediocre (at best) results.

Fans are all this program has left. It's the only thing separating Indiana basketball from Penn St basketball. Better be careful what you wish for.

Say whatever you want about Woody but the optics of this are horrible for the program.

It's pretty obvious Woodson is not the underlying issue with the program's incompetence.

I do think we are all overreacting a bit. This is pretty much status quo IU basketball in the last couple decades.

To be clear, I don't want Woodson either. I think IU should move on now, not even wait until the end of the season. I'm just providing some alternative perspectives.

That may be true, but this is what college sport has become. It's not Woodsons fault that NIL and transfer portal exist. If he embraces it differently than traditionalists believe he should, that's not his fault either. If he doesn't win....that's his fault.

Why? If you look at it objectively they are pretty similar.

Just for the sake of argument, isn't that sort of how professional sports are run? Coach coaches and the GM manages the roster. If we are in a new era of semiprofessional/pro-lite college sports, why can't that paradigm shift too?

IF Woodson gets a GM for the basketball program maybe this could actually work. I'm sure high level college athletics are messy to navigate with NIL and transfer portal, which is a full time job itself. If he can get the players he needs to run the system he wants then maybe...? Why does this feel exactly like 3 years ago? Remember when we were going to get Brad Stevens and ended up with Woodson? Now we think we're getting Pearl and end up with...Dane Fife?

If Woodson comes back next year, the expectations would surely be low. My fear would be he exceeds what little expectations there would be and we continue wallowing in mediocrity. Honestly, this is the worst case scenario. Will be difficult to root for Woodson coached team next year.

It's been over 2 decades of wandering in the college basketball wilderness for IU. At this point, you just keep shooting your shot until you hit the jack pot.

The program is already damaged. I mean, I don't want to keep Woodson but I'm also not going to act like it could get a whole lot worse.

Remember when fans were too self righteous for Pearl though? I guess times have changed. He would be a home run but I'm not even sure he would want anything to do with IUs dysfunctional board of trustees.

The algorithm to hire a basketball coach should never start with, "what is your affiliation with the school?". Rather, it should be something more along the lines of, "Can you coach college basketball?". This is more in response to Dakichs stupid f-ing tweet about firing Woodson and hiring Cheaney and Hulls. A ridiculous idea that would only further compound the problems surrounding the program.
