Coach Search 2017 IU Candidate: Billy Donovan (OKC Thunder)
VO5 replied to Feathery's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I mean, couldn't Fred just lie? What does it matter if he's telling the truth. I would think doing what's best for our basketball program would trump that. Seems like ADs give a vote of confidence and go back on their word quite a bit. It's probably what you said, but I guess I just don't see the need for it, especially when it's someone that isn't invested in IU one bit -

I get that, but he said they use their own connections and that makes me think they do It for the good of their own company, not IU -

Okay, anyone that is reading Mile's and 0708's posts can chime in here. I do not understand using a search firm for coaches. Mile alluded to us using a "coaching search firm" to hire Crean previously and it comes down to connections. He mentioned we are using it again this time. Fogler or something like that. Can our administration not do their own due diligence for the good of our university? Can they not understand what a good coach looks like and do that research themselves? I guess it baffles me when Mile says we are using a search firm that panders to their own connections and isn't affiliated with the university. How could they possibly know who would be the best fit here? It blows my mind if that is true, or maybe I'm not understanding something. -
One good year this year. I'll pass until he shows consistency

Yeah sorry. Should've clarified above that I meant guys like Wade and Jankovich. Agree with the rest. My worry is if we strike out on guys like Donovan and Archie, we'll go for one of those types. That would really scare me. Not saying it couldn't work out, but where our program stands now I would absolutely want a proven commodity over a hopeful candidate.

I really, really hope not. 1 magical season is nice, but as we have figured out (Crean), that isn't a recipe for further success. Give me someone who has sustained success over a flash in the pan. Guys like Donovan, Miller, Marshall, Bennett. Those are the guys we should, and have the ability to, go after.

Agree with everything you've said except the inclusion of Smart and Alford in the good coaches list. Smart hasn't shown anything at Texas and many people think his style of play is a gimmick. Alford, I have no idea why people keep bringing his name up. He's riding talent and talent alone this year. Otherwise solid post man!

0708 in a later post said "Just chill and let it play out. It can change in minutes and swing the other way." Personally, I'm not a fan of this flip-flopping. The decision is right there for Glass and the administration to act. I have no idea why this constant changing would be happening.

Both are hearing he'll be gone, but that it's fluid

In my experience, IUwins0708 is the guy to pay attention to. Always seems to have good sources
-
I don't have to show you..just look around. If you really don't think that happens I don't know what to tell you. Not trying to come off as a d*ck but I'm baffled as to why you think that when it happens all the time

Reaching out happens all the time when coaches are still employed. Why would they not do their due diligence searching and fire someone without knowing anything about other candidates? Seems like a terrible business decision to me

Until shown otherwise, this is my thought process as well with the administration we have. -
Great article. The media is finally coming around somewhat. That's what we need to get this mess over with. The more media pressure, the better.

PLEASE basketball gods, make this happen -
This is why I can't stand Dakich. I 100% believe he had no conversation of the sort. Gotta get those ratings
-
Agreed. And his best conference record in that time was 12-6. In the Big 12, which is historically worse than the BIG and ACC. Still a hard pass from me. I could care less if he's coached in the NBA
-
Nah. If I'm not mistaken, the guy made his living off of transfers in college. Has sucked in the NBA. I don't think he would have much more success than Crean tbh.
-
This has to be a sign of something. Maybe not but my mind wants it to be
-
I'm thinking the boo birds will be out..
-
His seat is melting
-
I'm trying to imagine this place and the fanbase wth him back next year. Yikes. I think Glass's hand will be forced. I'm not seeing any possible way he can bring him back with the toxicity that's going around our program.
