Transfer Portal w IU Interest
Dillion replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
No we wouldn’t because he wouldn’t get off the bench at either of those places. He’s not a great shooter and that has nothing to do with Woodson. His FT percentage tells another story. Just watching the dude go in for layups terrified to shoot makes me cringe. Let alone watching him handle ball pressure by backing them down from 90 feet away. I get it he bleeds red, he plays hard at all time, and is a smart player. No one is doubting that. But he is super limited. I’d gladly welcome him back if he was the 11-13th man. He certainly won’t hurt IU at the end of the bench but if he’s logging big minutes we are in trouble just like last year. I stand by if he hits the portal he isn’t going to be sought after. Maybe a P4 picks him up but it’s nothing more than an end of the bench depth piece in case of emergency. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Wanting Dallas James over him is crazy but Leal is not an “elite” defender. Leal plays his a** off and is smart but very limited. Serious question for the die hard leal truthers….if he were to hit the portal today what type of school or schools do you think would be interested and would he see the floor? I personally believe it would be like a butler type level and I don’t think his numbers would be much better than they were here. If leal wasn’t a hometown kid and Indiana me basketball he wouldn’t even be considered. Post his stats and what he’s done over the years, don’t put a face or name to them, and let’s act like he just committed to IU. This place would be ready to fire devries tomorrow or question why and how he helps. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

The first sentence answered it. Yes I hope with what we have now leal doesn’t play and is just a bench guy. Archie showed it, Crean showed it, doesn’t mean devries won’t work out just means some are hesitant. I’m not down or up on him just cautiously waiting and optimistic. The portal only brings a hand full of studs per year. What’s the chances IU got all of them? I’d say slim to none. Just because other P4 wanted them doesn’t mean they work out. Most other P4 teams needed to fill holes. We needed to fill a whole roster. They wouldn’t have been leaning on them like we are going to have to. If they miss on them it might make their team weaker but wasn’t going to cripple them. If we miss on them, since we needed so many, our year is shot. Also they didn’t necessarily need them to be the players we need them to be….for example. Wilkerson with UK probably wouldn’t need to be a stud. He was probably 4th or 5th best. IU needs him to be a dude! Does he have that in him? We all hope. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
(2025)- Trent Sisley to INDIANA
Dillion replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I didn’t get to watch a ton of games while he was at Montverde, mainly highlights but I did catch a few, so hard for me to give much insight but I’ll try…. The thing that sticks out most to his improvement is just how much more explosive and physical he played this year. He is so much stronger and quicker than he was at heritage hills. Some of the games and highlights he was going through ppl. The other thing that impressed me was just his body language. Trent is to let things affect his attitude alot when he was younger. Teams around here could frustrate him bang foul him and he would lose his head a little. I didn’t see much of that watching him at Montverde. Maybe that’s because in high school they put 4 guys on him and beat the crap out of him and while at Montverde it wasn’t like that. Who knows…..I still believe defensively is where he is going to need to improve the most. He really didn’t “have” to start playing it until this year against better guys. In junior high and high school he could be lazy or not guard because he was longer, bigger, just better than everyone….The one thing about Trent is he works his @$$ off. The thing he liked most about Montverde is he could workout 2-4 times per day on his game. The kid loves the game and has never been afraid to work. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I mean that’s the hope for the year. None of us really know until the season starts I guess. Truth is we seem to have a nice collection of mid major players but are they ready to take the jump and contribute in the big leagues? Can the coach get the most out of them so even if we are less talented we can beat more talented teams? All questions that won’t be answered until the ball tips. Idk what to think honestly. We’ve been burned so many times in just kind of sitting back patiently waiting without any expectations and hoping for the best. I’m ready for IU to be back, to have a good team, to have a great coach but we’ve been through the same thing many times over the last 20 years. Coaches who we thought were locks to be the next great thing, a new year with upgraded talent that were duds, and off season expectations that seemed great on paper but were never met. Hopefully for all of us this is the year all those things come to fruition. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

That’s basically what I was getting at. I’m fine with leal if it doesn’t come at loss to our roster. For me a loss would be bringing on leal and not getting C if available. He’s obviously better and more valuable than a walk on I just hope he isn’t logging huge minutes for us or I’m afraid it will be another rough year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Yes I coached and worked with Trent through the grades. I think until he became a freshman then I got out of teaching and coaching for a better paying job Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Who’s upset? It’s a discussion not an argument. Leal does nothing to move the needle for me. He isn’t a high D1 player he’s shown that for 5 years now. I dot really care what analytics show defensively my eyes saw he was awful and couldn’t keep even decent athletes in front of him. Leadership? Who knows we aren’t there day to day but I do know it takes someone special to get ppl to follow when you’re not even close to the best. If we add him I don’t think the sky is falling I would rather just add Goode and a center. If leal is back and we are any good I don’t expect leal to play very much so if we can’t add a center then it doesn’t really matter. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I’m not sure honestly. He has grown tremendously in the last year from an athletic, quickness, and physical standpoint. He has a very nice skill set for a stretch 4 type of guy, especially one that will not be the vocal point of a scouting report. He will do a lot of the little things and does move without the ball well making reads, back cuts, and what not. I have my worries defensively and I didn’t get to watch many games at Montverde so that’s more from my perspective at heritage hills. Wasn’t that he was a bad defender but he didn’t “HAVE” to play it at heritage hills because he was just better than everyone else. So I figured he would grow a lot in that area once he got to college. So he can certainly grown into,or maybe already has, a plus defender. I’m also not trying to be a homer because it’s hard to stay biased about a kid I’ve taught, coached, and have known personally for awhile now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

It’s not bitterness but we have two spots and need a bigger body not another wing that should see no time. So give me goode who would contribute on any D1 team and a big not leal and Goode. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

From someone who coached him, Montverde was the best thing that happened to him. So much more explosive and quick than he use to be. Kid was always a gym rat and his dad/coaches at heritage hills did a nice job coaching and training him. But nothing like he got at Montverde. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

High level shooter? Imagine us bringing in someone with leal stats in the transfer portal. Let alone running plays for him lol. This place would loose it. Leal looked scared to death to shoot the ball half the time. Don’t even get me started with how he looked handling the ball against pressure basically backing ppl down from 80 ft. I love that Woodson played him last year but it had a lot more to do with being sick of watching the others on the team play. Hell I’d would have rather watch Dallas James lay then half the guys last year. I really hope we start to get more talented players than leal and those guys because practice/team hype emergency bench guys. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I guess I watched the wrong games. I just don’t see leal as a plus defender at all. He has good principles but lacked the ability to keep people in front of him. Leadership? Maybe I guess but the senior night shenanigans scream a whole different story. I was happy for him he got to see the floor last year mainly because I was tired of watching the other people on the team but I really hope this year team is an upgrade in talent and just basketball skills and IQ in general. Again if leal hits the portal I don’t think he generates much interest from high level power conferences. Just my opinion and it’s not worth a lot lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I’m fine with whatever coach wants I just don’t see how leal moves the needle at all. If he is logging minutes we will not be very good. I’m having a hard time understanding what he actually brings to the team. I get it he’s a hometown kid who wants to play for Indiana but a lot of kids want to play for Indiana. If Leal were to enter the portal I have a hard time seeing big time programs wanting him. I just think there are a lot more needs on this team. Bring back Luke grab a big and let’s roll into the season. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Sisley is not a Woodson recruit. The kid commuted here despite Woodson. He was coming here regardless of who the coach was. Like someone said a true Hoosier through and through. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Doubt this at all. Talk to Dad yesterday and ask who the next coach was since they were up there this weekend. He said no clue and no one will know because Dolson said he’s keeping it very close. He then went and said if he had to guess beard or McCollum or someone like that. Trents dad is a former coach he gets it. Trent is here to stay unless something insane happens. I can tell you he would love it if beard were hired. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’ve actually talked to Trent’s dad about the hire and who we thought it would be. Unless he’s keeping it under wraps they have no idea just like us. He just mentions that Dolson calls them and keeps in touch often. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’ve talked to them and they would be for sure. Also would love beard because I’m he is a winner and that’s all they want to do is win. Trent came to IU because it’s IU. I think Indiana would have to really botch this to not get Trent still. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
Dillion replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Not as big of a deal as you think especially with how this season has gone. Coaches are competitors too and most want to move up to their own jobs. Things get heated in the moment. As a former coach I don’t want yes men as assistants. I want guys to be honest and give me their opinions on what they would do, see, decide, so on and so fourth. It’s my job as the head coach to then decide what I believe to be best overall. And either live with the outcome. That’s what the head coach gets paid for. Assistants should know it doesn’t always go there way and as a head coach I know sometimes I should have followed their advice and be able to recognize and learn from that. So if I’m Woody after the game it’s a simple conversation. “Hey ya I think I messed up. I made a bad decision and you were right we should have fouled and I should have taken your advice. My bad man. Keep throwing me good ideas.” And the whole thing is squashed because your assistant fell valued and heard. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

This for sure! Trent committed despite Woodson. I haven’t talked to them personally about this being true, and they would never admit it because that’s the family they are, but yea wouldn’t surprise me if they are rooting for a change like us all! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

This is most likely true being close to the situation. IU got Trent and it wasn’t because Woodson. I firmly believe if Woodson leaves Trent still comes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
