I don’t pretend to know what’s best for him personally but looking at all things basketball, Houston seems like a no brainer for a guy like him. He will compete for a championship at those places. No chance to contend at IU or Maryland.

He can correct me if I’m wrong I think trying to get across here, is that Walsh primarily the reason for any of our recruiting success we’ve had recently. Personally, I agree with this. If the new staff comes in, I think one of the most important first steps, they would need to take, would be retaining Walsh somehow..

Sure there are examples of other programs doing this but not this staff. We are likely going to need to replace at least 6 players. These are going to have to be home runs from a scout and understanding what fire our system. I’m not sure our coach or staff even knows what the system/identity is. Bc Woody says one thing and his actions say otherwise. i believe it’s an insurmountable challenge for this staff, based off of what they’ve shown us thus far. None of this even covers the fact that every other program we are going toe to toe with is going to have extremely compelling negative recruiting material to use against us. Dead last in 3pt attempts…. Ranked 100 in the nation in KenPom and have a 100+ ranking in both offense and defense. I’m not saying we can’t have a better season than this year but that’s not going to be easy enough. I don’t see any way we are competing for a B1G title next year. There is more of a chance that next season is an epic disaster than next year we contend. So many things have to change drastically and I don’t think it’s unreasonable for fans to not have faith in that happening.

Greg Tonagel (Maybe the best coach on this list) 5. Dusty May (50/50 guy. Hire him bc he’s probably the best we can get at this stage in the game)

Like his politics or not, he’s been right about a lot of things and probably is not far from the target with the current situation. This is coming from a guy who absolutely despises Dan Dakich. I cannot stand people who boldly display their narcissism. I feel like he does more to divide the fanbase than unite it. But over the last few years, I catch myself being more and more pissed that he’s right about things.

Interesting hearing his philosophy on how many guys he likes to play and why. Will be music to many people’s ears in here. the entire interview is great but his comments about his rotations starts around the 5:05 mark. This is a Chris Beard level guy without the baggage. Personality seems big enough to be able to win at IU. He checks every single box for me personally.

If that was the case, Woodson’s never gets hired after Stevens negotiations fall apart.

The Woodson hire was all we needed to see to understand whether this administration….. 1. Is serious about winning 2. Is even capable of identifying & attracting an elite coach We don’t need another hiring cycle to figure out what the likely scenario is. There’s going to be noise of some big name that will get all of our hopes up (not saying those reports of engagement are false bc I believe the rumors surrounding Stevens) then once the hire is announced it’s going to be Dusty May. We all know it. Everyone else in the college basketball world knows it too. Worst kept secret. He’s going to win the press conference and convince all of us that he’s the savior, bc we are all desperately waiting for one, and he’s at best a 50/50 burger. I’ve tried so hard to on board with May. I’ve heard all of the arguments for why he can win here and when I watch his team, nothing convinces me that he can come here and win in the B1G. This postseason will do a lot for me personally. If he makes another deep run or makes the 2nd weekend, then I’m in. I often think of hypotheticals, like, “what would Kansas do right now?” Or “what would Kentucky do if they were in these same exact shoes?” Would they hire Dusty May? I don’t think so. I think they would go and pluck a guy like Dan Hurley, Scott Drew, or Tommy Lloyd. They aren’t taking a chance on a guy that’s a maybe at best. ESPECIALLY after they’ve been starving for a winning coach for over 20 years. The argument has been beaten to death but IU doesn’t behave like a blue blood in any way shape or fashion. We are aren’t a top 3 program in our own conference anymore. If the Indiana, Purdue, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Michigan job all open at the same time, I do not believe that Indiana would be considered by the top candidate. They would have 20 years ago, but that ship has sailed. I know this will get under a few people’s skin but prove me wrong. I’m open to being convinced that I’m wrong.

I agree. This is the reason the next hire will get botched as well. I’d rather Whitten handle it. She couldn’t possibly do any worse than Dolson, Glass, and Greenspan have.

I think you're spot on. The job requires high energy and a ton of effort from the head guy. Woody isn’t that guy. This is 100% a retirement gig for him.

It’s been a common occurrence for the last 3 coaches. Each time half of everyone calls out that it’s a fluke and the other half ridicules those people for being negative after a win. Rinse repeat. We’re trapped in an endless time loop of ****.

How old is he?

I’ll be honest….I don’t recall ever seeing much hate for Leal. I’ve seen people say they didn’t think he was good enough to be getting minutes on a team that contends. I personally feel we could have played him a lot more. His shooting and winning past was something we have been missing. Defense can always come along with more minutes. Plenty of teams in college basketball win with guys just like Anthony Leal.

Leal should get whatever he wants for free tonight. Dude deserves it. Hope to see more of this the rest of the way through.
