POTFB Game Thread: Indiana Hoosiers vs. Purdue Boilermakers (2/27 at 7PM on FS1)

we suck -
Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. And my thoughts were also that people should keep the topic of IU sports a priority for new trustees, both appointed and elected, this one, and those who come after him as well. Somehow that priority seems to have slipped through the cracks along the way, and it likely would take several trustee appointments/elections to at least balance the scales, and then a couple more to be in a majority opinion on the subject. And I do not mean to say athletics should be the main consideration for picking trustees, but that box should check, among several other crucial boxes. And it takes perpetual conversations from all parts of the state to maintain the priority. Right now we are not even in a point to maintain, we still need to get the priority. So when you see your local republican/democratic county chairmen, bring that topic up in conversation. It is probably even easier to go through your precinct committeeman who probably knocks on your door at least once a year. When he comes knocking at your door, raise that topic, and once that sinks in with him, he would most likely bring the topic up at the party's monthly/weekly meetings, depending on the time of the year. It really does take this type of effort to affect change, and it always takes longer than one thinks it should, much longer, for change to actually take place, but persistence often pays off, especially with a no-brainer (double entendre') like this topic.

Brian Snow likes to make up his own news regarding IU recruiting. In his version of the stories, IU always loses the recruitment. And then when it is clear the recruit is going to sign with IU, Snow finally flips and announces, never once saying he was wrong about the recruitment all along. That is why when the rumors come out about a big signing coming our way, when the Brian Snow domino finally falls, you know the recruit is coming to IU without a doubt. I stopped reading Brian Snow when the Scout board was still alive, and judging from the reports I hear on this board, the same trend has continued for several years since I last sought out a Brian Snow piece. I get that you need to read it, because you pretty much need to read everything you can about IU lol, and thank you for doing that, and reporting back btw. -

Funny, and when Purdue played IU last time, they were on a roll, and IU was spiraling down the drain like a flushed toilet. IU needs two more wins at least, and would it not be very, very satisfying to get those two wins on the road against Purdue and Illinois? That would be memorable. All of these last four games are going to be rough, probably the roughest four game stretch of the year because it is the final stretch. Let's knock Purdue off tomorrow night, and get that sick monkey off our backs. It has been far too long. It is so bad with IU against Purdue right now in basketball that while we have not won a game against Purdue since 2016, more than 4 years ago, we have also lost to Purdue Fort Wayne twice in a row during that streak. This needs to end right now. I really want our guys to experience the feeling of beating our rivals, especially at Mackey right now after what they did to us in our house a few weeks ago. -

Race Thompson, Jerome Hunter and Armaan Franklin have each put together solid performances recently, and each seem to be trying with a little more success on the floor of late to add meaningful noteworthy minutes. Next to winning, watching IU players breakout during the courses of their playing careers may possibly be the most enjoyable aspects of being an IU fan for this IU fan. Here's hoping these guys can continue to improve a lot and become consistent guys we rely on to push IU over the top again and again. I did not see an appropriate thread on the board to address this subject. I think I read a couple weeks ago in the negativity thread that player development does not happen at IU anymore, and then voila, so here is a spot I just want to share my great IU fanjoy watching these three guys step up and get some nice results in big games of late. It must be an amazing feeling for the guys when they put together some nice games like we have seen over these last few big games in the course of these young players' development. Witnessing breakout performances in individual players in real time is why a lot of us on the IU boards are the obsessed IU fans we are.

Tre Roberson - Chicago Bears

I hope he can still play quarterback. Seriously though, he is the kind of guy who could probably play any position on the team. I like this pickup, and cannot wait to see him play. -
you are most definitely not alone. a lot of IU fans are sick of what has happened to Indiana's sports culture, and want sports success to become a high priority of the university again. if you are invested in this, conversations need to take place with people connected with decision makers. county chairmen of the political parties in Indiana are probably the most meaningful accessible people ordinary citizens can contact with concerns of this nature. the county chairmen of the political parties are most likely going to take the time to listen to ordinary citizens complain about Indiana University trustee appointments in relation to the erosion of the sports culture at IU, and have the connections to spread the word, and do something meaningful to solve the problem. If you have never met your county chairman, republican or democrat, you can meet them at party headquarters, and most of those guys love talking so much, they will talk with anybody about anything, and usually do what they can to help. that is probably one of the easiest meaningful things you can do to add your 2 cents to the discussion. the county chairmen are the guys who recruit candidates to run in local and statewide elections, and they meet regularly with the chairmen in adjacent and statewide counties. they know everybody, and they talk to everybody. county chairmen generally speak with the higher elected officials in state government, including the governor, on at least a somewhat regular basis, even if all they say in a single conversation with a governor is "you might want to appoint a trustee who gives a sh(l)t about IU basketball this time." thoughts like that can often be communicated on such a simple down to earth grass roots level, and free popular thoughts like that can really click sometimes.

I am not sure how Shoulders' replacement would be selected yet, by appointment? or by election?
-
If he was annihilated in the election, is it possible that maybe every other idea he had for the university was ill-conceived or even terrible? I am asking btw, not stating that is what happened because idk.
-
Time for those of you who like to write letters to your governor, and I know there are a lot of you guys who like to write letters to your governor on the IU message boards, to put together a relentless comprehensive letter writing campaign to your governor and ask/tell/plead/threaten him not to fuqck up this trustee appointment again this time. Tell him to appoint a trustee who prioritizes the success of the big money sports programs at IU because the identity of the Hoosier State is tied to that brand. If he is like past Indiana governors making these appointments, he may not know that unless you and everybody you know tell/ask/plead/threaten him repeatedly for months. 6 of the 9 trustees are appointed by the governor, while only 3 are elected by alumni.

unfortunately I think that is the kind of shot that can really wake up the bad Devonte like a bad energy drink. it's a shame that 3 did not count, because that is probably the last circus shot Green makes in this game, but not the last circus shot he takes in this game by a long shot. I fear the degree of difficulty may go through the roof of the barn after that one -
Player Development Thread
chicagoHOOSIER replied to chicagoHOOSIER's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Yeah he played with a lot of desire, fight, and toughness, and gave the team a nice spark when he was on the floor, and he made his shots go in, so he got to keep playing. 2 of his last 3 games now he has made significant contributions. I like his motor. We need him to continue getting better, and making a mark when his number is called again. It is such a great feeling to see a guy like Race come into a game, and you want to see him improve and make a meaningful contribution, and then he does. We need him to continue, and give this team some fight and some energy when he comes in. -
Rockin' the gallows humor. Nice.

Reading that, I don't think you fully understand the nuances of Archie's version of the Pack Line Offense.

And I am not even looking at what you glossed over about Kelvin Sampson from a point of getting caught or not. You were talking about Kelvin Sampson and the very short Kelvin Sampson era drug culture he recruited to IU, and you were glossing over that as if you were trying to minimize a summary of the Kelvin Sampson culture to a couple of college kids who bought weed once or twice. And then I pointed out to you that you remember clearly what the guys Kelvin Sampson recruited and brought into the university community were doing, and I linked an article discussing Bud Mackey's several convictions for drug trafficking, an armed robbery conviction, and then also several probation violations that culminated in a 15 1/2 year prison sentence he may still be serving. Sampson recruited kids to wear the IU jersey who were deeply involved in the business operations of organized hierarchies whose mission and business model is to get children in elementary, junior high, and high school, and young adults on their own for the first time at the university nearly everybody on this board follows, cheers, and critiques without ceasing, addicted to drugs much more dangerous than weed and alcohol, dangerous drugs that consume many of the rest of those once young adults' lives, drugs that kill many of them as well. And you being the most critical critic of Indiana University of all, not only dismiss the discussion of the severity of the consequences of the drug culture Sampson invited to the university, but after all of that was pointed out to you, you continue to advocate for a return to Kelvin Sampson's winning ways, and bemoan that all IU needed to do to let the basketball team continue deeper down the wrong path would be to do what the programs everybody else on the board, and you as well b(l)tch about daily, and simply deny the phone call thing to the NCAA, not to keep the university out of trouble, but to be sure Kelvin Samson could continue to do everything that Kelvin Sampson does when he is given the power to have an enormous effect on the Indiana University community. You stated that after you were reminded in detail how Kelvin Samson directed the basketball program at IU, and how he affected the student body and the greater university community. Today I learned you are not a person who earns a minimal fraction of the attention you labor for as if it is your life's vocational calling. You work this board like it is both your job and the fundamental tenet of your religion, and at the same time, you manage to do that half-@$$ed and lazy, even while spending all of your waking moments here. What are you doing with your life? I do not say that with snark at all. I am trying to help you by asking you to look at yourself objectively for a moment, and examine the road you are on, see the roads laid out before you, and then ask yourself if what you are doing now with mucho mucho gusto is what you really want to continue to do with what is left of your life. You can stop now. It won't be easy. But you can stop now. If you reach out, I would be willing to go out on a limb and guess some good people on this board would even offer to help you, people with purely good intentions even. Good luck. I wish you the best.

lol iirc you are a school teacher, high school and/or jr high school. I may be remembering this wrong, but if I am remembering it correctly, you graded that paper so much like a high school and/or junior high school teacher, red pen and all. that was hilarious. no offense at all intended for anybody involved in the discussion, just got a great laugh reading that. too funny. thx.
-
You are glossing over guys like Bud Mackey though, who were convicted several times for serious crimes. I think you remember that several guys Sampson recruited who verballed, some of whom played for IU, were more involved in the organized business end of drugs and other things than the typical college student buying a little weed. Think about how great those IU jerseys must have been for business. http://www.news-graphic.com/news/top_story/bud-mackey-sentenced-to-years/article_2a0f1442-9053-11e0-aab8-001cc4c002e0.html

Armaan draws the foul. I am beginning to drop everything when I hear his name called in a game and focus on that player. He's a big tough, smart guard whose body was ready for the Big Ten on day one
