  1. Thank you! It will take more than better players if we're running the same system with the same e and e. Wouldn't it be nice to see some of those foundations built in the first season? If you've ever been in a leadership position you know it's easier to relax the reins instead of getting stricter. Will better players stop over helping on drives or will we stop the post and pray offense?
  2. A lot of made 3s in this Creighton-Kansas game
  3. Excellent take. That performance was all we could really expect from our team. Let's wallow in meritocracy for the next few decades by "supporting" the program. There are still major issues with the program that need fixed. Woody had a solid first season and made the tourney. Let's do better and elevate the program so I can not support it more. How do we fix these issues so we actually compete in tourney games?
  4. Nice way of taking care of business Hoosiers!
  5. You know what they say about assuming. When you've come close to putting in the type of extra hours I had to put in at that age, in that environment, under those conditions, please talk to me. Until that happens please keep trying to dimension the type of physical, emotional, and mental endurance needed to perform that type of work.
  6. Maybe this would have helped? The point we looked similar to how we did too often throughout the season when we had plenty of rest is what I'm referencing. It's easy to excuse anything and everything but more difficult to dig into why those trends continue and how to fix them. We excuse too much when it doesn't really help the program move forward. I'm sure playing 5 games in 8 days isn't easy and takes its toll on your body. Playing 3 games in 9 days with one in OT similarly takes a toll on your body, to a lesser extent. One team competed in their next game and the other rolled over and took the beating. WHY?
  7. Grrrr! This drives me bonkers. Throw it into the back court and wait, wait, wait before chucking up a three.
  8. This is insightful. Looking for good debate and receiving an "I told you." Makes sense. Where are you positioning your other 3 defenders when you trap past half court? Where are you shifting after the first pass beats the trap? Where are you positioning your other 4 players on offense? I was looking for a different perspective, a little theory. Doing it earlier in the shot clock would force more decisions, passes, etc. with more possibilities for mistakes as UNC was looking to burn clock and less about scoring. As the shot clock runs down they'll look to score condensing the possibilities for mistakes and the time to make them. One pass to break and then a decision to attack or dish doesn't seem like enough pressure to get the mistakes you're looking for. You always have the option not to respond if it's too burdensome to game different situations like that.
  9. Adding facts to the situation is grasping at straws? That's odd. There's also the fact Notre Dame had to travel back from NY after their conference tourney, travel further after their play in game, etc. I'd say having a full 24+ hours between what was stated and what actually took place is a pretty big deal unless I'm confusing that not having downtime was an issue. 3 games, one going to OT, in 9 days is nothing close to 5 in 8? Where is that magic cutoff??
  10. 1. pass top of key when second defender starts to trap 2. player attacks lane 3. if defender steps up you dish to open players for shot 4. else you attack rim I'm not sure where the other pass comes from or the necessity of the pass if you don't draw a defender. Even then 3 passes in 8 seconds could still get a decent look.
  11. If that first pass is clean you have 4 v 3 attacking the basket late. I believe they went to trap with 8 seconds left in the clock. That's plenty of time to attack from half court.
  12. Why do you go really late in the shot clock to trap the ball handler? That doesn't make sense. You would think you would do that earlier in the shot clock.
  13. A few more data points... vs. Iowa in Big 1.o tourney quarters finals ended around 3pm Saturday vs. Wyoming in Round of 68 play in game started around 9:30pm (?) Tuesday Saturday 3pm -> Sunday 3pm = 24 hours Sunday 3pm -> Monday 3pm = 24 hours Monday 3pm -> Tuesday 3pm = 24 hours It was more than 2 days off before Dayton. On Notre Dame... They had to play a whole 5 extra minutes of high intensity basketball in their Round of 68 play in game against Rutgers. They then traveled to the west (best) coast to play their first round game. Their first round game actually started earlier than ours by a few hours right?
  14. Their offense looks great with spacing and movement leading to WIDE OPEN looks from deep and cleaning up the glass. Impressive
  15. I hadn't thought about them reaching a goal and then being done playing and fighting. Agree about Saint Mary's being the better team but even facing a better team you can compete. There were just too many lapses that resembled what we saw throughout the season to think it was a one off fatigue issue. Simple ball screen defense that leaves the ball handler WIDE OPEN for an easy three. Over helping and not getting anywhere near the shooter to contest the shot. Tossing the ball into the post and standing. Sprinting on a fast break and immediately giving up when the opponent runs it back. Rebounds falling a few feet away from our players and having the opponent get the board. Too many losing plays with bad e and e to even be able to say we competed.
  16. Having guards who can create is important but spacing is equally important (your threaten behind the arc). Ball and player movement is important. Those things only happen when you have multidimensional players and a dynamic offense. We need player and scheme important to reach this level. UNC has been doing this really well against Baylor.
  17. It's mental. They got over the hump of "learning how to win" close games but it goes further than that. It would be interesting to know the true level of trust between players, not the superficial talk. I'm not sure how much accountability there is between players too. We need this culture in the program more than we need shooters or play makers.
  18. I feel this is a lot of talking heads around sports. It makes people like LaPhonso Ellis, Bill Walton, and a few others so much more better.
  19. Why?! There is so much wrong and right with this exchange. Dan's twit fatigue didn't really seem to both Notre Dame that much mature, win first guys - did Notre Dame have multiple players suspended this season? how many twits, tik toks, instagrams did we see from IU players responding to the disrespect of the preseason Big 1.o conference predictions, being put in the play-in game, and other things throughout the season? X's twi we went from 5 games in 8 days to 5 games in 7 days, soon we will have played 8 games in 5 days Can we please LEARN from this stuff?! Prove it by your actions on the court. Don't tell me what you're going to do, show me what you've done. I love me some X and really happy with how he played for stretches of the season. He needs to take the high road and get better from this. Print the twit out and place it in your locker to fuel you everyday this off-season. When we have a culture of hard work and winning Dakich will come crawling back to be near the program. Be ducks. Work.
  20. Goodness Iowa St. and LSU in that WAS territory.
  21. Interesting you didn't mention anything about the x in y days... It's not the first and won't be the last random games, time frames, and such people ignorantly use to try to prove a point. Huh? This seems awfully flawed. I'd hope you wouldn't try to please anyone else but how you see things. Sometimes the most accurate and truthful statements are the least pleasing. My posts have zero to do with being cool. While you mentioned it, we do go into that "too cool for school" mood as a team and program often. It's part of the reason we get beat by less talented teams like Wiscy and purdoodoo often. Will ND be tired after playing 4 games in 11 days?
  22. Gallo is capable in certain situations but really needs a jumper to be able to use those angles.
  23. Depends on the direction they run I do believe
  24. Grrr, Arch stole their confidence! It's rather amazing it wasn't limited to a player or two but almost every player for the last 5-6 years. Arch, strength coach, how the wind blows in Btown? Rather amazing...
