I think there is a foundational layer that's missing on top of needing scoring and defense from the wing. I believe the issues on the wing is well known and has been for awhile. My concern is the lack of overall improvement and that's more a program (see: culture) issue than just recruiting. There is a ton that goes into that lack of proper culture and I'm not sure just getting a wing or three that can score and defend will fix it. In short, we need to become a program that the sum is better than the individual parts. We haven't been that way for a long time and won't be consistently good to great until that happens.

Wasn't expecting this grade from you! Good point bringing up the transfer portal too. How would you grade player development? -
I believe that conversation took place after the Wyoming game re: we were a little better than terrible while Wyoming was terrible. It caught up to us when we met a team that knew our weaknesses and could pick them apart. A lot of the disagreement is over what each think is possible from the team and expectations. Some are happy we just made the tourney, others prefer to push for perfection every time we step on the court.

Ditto! They can't lose enough! Although, as we've aged my puke friends have actually cheered for IU in some games. It's probably more of not seeing us as a threat as an elite of college basketball. It's just comical to "justify" a loss because another team lost too. You lost to a 15 seed, only the 10th (?) time in history that's happened! You got your doors blown off for your worst loss in NCAA history! We're both losers...

The good news is cbb has free agency! We can and should be able to secure a few bigs to round out the roster. Maybe show them what Trayce was doing on/off (NIL) the court to persuade them. Although, we'll need to adjust the offense in a major way to compete for anything above the lower middle of the Big 1.o. -
Celebrating the failures of other teams to drown out the inability of our program sums up most of our recent history. It would have been nice to have had a win or two in the NCAAs AND for puke to fall flat on their face. Instead we had to challenge them for turd laying in the first round. At least our cheerleaders got the ball from the top of the goal!

Whole psu game (TJD's word) could be added to that list. It'll be nice when we get back to having a standard for this. I was really hoping that the benching against one of the many cupcakes would get the message across. I guess the accountability ended the night before the game, although I have a hunch that the NW fiasco wasn't the first time for that.

Agree for the most part. I don't know if it takes coaching to develop shooting at the college level. I believe it's more on the player to put in the time and e to become a good shooter. -
The NCAA screwed up earlier in the season when we had almost two weeks off before psu. I guess we should have submitted our waiver to the NCAA letting them know when we could have played after resting. We were largely mentally fatigued for most of the season, a 4.5 hour flight was a built in excuse our fans would use regardless of evidence throughout the season.

I was just happy we stepped on the court last night. Massive achievement. Can you imagine what it must have taken to play a game in Dayton, have to get on a plane to Portland, go through practice and walk through the next day, get a full nights rest, have another half day to get ready for the game only to lay an egg and have fans make every excuse for you? That'd be the life. Again, if I'm running a business I'm wanting these same fans as shareholders to excuse everything.

We need to replace the shooters with makers! It's been forever since we've had a lights out maker. When was the last time a maker developed at IU? -
Excusing everything is loser talk. We were excusing stuff before games were played. It's one thing to compete and be fatigued. It's another to just throw in the towel. If you think we competed in this game and it was strictly fatigue that's cool but that's nowhere close to how I saw it. We've coasted too often this season to believe we actually wanted to compete. We might have competed more on social media about the NCAA "disrespecting" us than we did on the court tonight.
-
I was out of the loop. I didn't think it was about practice time I thought it was being fatigued. I guess we shouldn't have scouted St. Mary's before playing Wyoming. If we didn't scout St. Mary's maybe we would have beat Wyoming easier and had some rest. There is always the possibility the NCAA would have figured out a way to screw us in that case too.
-
I wish I could say that it was that shocking but it's always a possibility with this team. Hell, we did it at home against Michigan. We've done it for halves throughout the season. You would think after multiple players posted they were out to prove the NCAA wrong for the seeding they would do something about it but...
-
Did you not see our players tonight? Definitely tired. They over helped like they have all season and watched St. Mary's drain three after three. The ball didn't fall into their laps on rebounds and just couldn't move a few feet to secure the rebound. That's definitely being tired. It didn't happen at all during the season so we know it was because we had to fly from Dayton to Portland.
-
Would definitely not be ideal. If he put in the work this off-season he could be a major piece moving forward. I guess the rumors of 5 players being suspended for the Northwestern was written off and lots of jokes made until it was true too though.
