(2024) PF - Derik Queen to Maryland
JSHoosier replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Staff has shown that's how they want to play, so if Queen didn't start it'd be a portal big. -

We need talent but it'd be another year of starting 2 post players in Reneau/Queen. I'd rather we didn't do that. -
Crean went to Georgia, where he was awful.
-
I don't know, the same article where it said IU was his dream job at one time also had quotes from him that made it sound like he's moved on.
-
With Beard's issues? The odds of IU looking at him are about the same as me winning the lottery twice.
-
At one time he said IU was his dream job.

Fan support is one of the few things this program has consistently had.
-
Fans for UK, Duke, Kansas, etc would be just as vocal as we have been. Those programs never would've looked at Woodsin but that's beside the point. Fan is short for fanatic, they will react and with the dumpster we've seen the last 20+ years the reaction won't be pleasant. Especially not since IU essentially gave itself the death penalty for something no serious program would report (and isn't illegal now) after the best hire they've made since RMK.
-
I was wondering how long it'd take for the blame the fans fallback to show up. Staff isn't getting it done? Crappy fans. Staff didn't assemble a good roster? Fans didn't know who to get.
-
I still contend Crean should've been fired when he managed to miss the NIT with 2 burger boys on the roster.
-
Yep, people say he was a backup to Stevens but if he didn't play at IU no one would've wanted him; NBA teams didn't want him anymore. If the backup option was a guy in his 60s that hadn't been a HC in a decade then Dolson may have been drunk. If he gave a 60 year old that hadn't been a HC in a decade that kind of buyout then Dolson had to be drunk, or got completely schooled by another agent.

No one should be.

On the surface it's one game. We still can't guard the perimeter and at this point that's a systemic issue, we've had problems keeping team off the offensive glass which again is systemic at this point. Still stink at FTs, which is just inexcusable. Our defense has gotten worse each year as well. Nebraska itself is one game, but we continue to show serious underlying problems that in year 3 still haven't been addressed.
-
Unfortunately I'll believe they're serious about getting basketball right when they show it, if it's not too late to fix this mess. They hired a 60 year old that hadn't been a HC in almost 10 years, because he played at IU over 40 years ago. Maybe the next coach will be a 50 year old that hasn't coached in 5 years. I'd forget May, he'll probably get hired somewhere else because we've shown we won't move on when we should. And with Beard's issues IU wouldn't even consider him.

At this point we need to view Johnson as needed depth but no sort of answer. He was great in the BTT a couple years ago but hasn't been that player since even when healthy. He has physical traits but doesn't have it between the ears. I'd say when he starts crapping himself we need to get him off the floor before he plays us out of the game but our other guards aren't good either.

Making the tournament should be a bare minimum expectation, it's not much of an accomplishment with 68 teams. You made a 68 team field, want a cookie? Good thing we have guard reinforcements coming....oh wait, we have 1 commit and the guard plan was Fland or pray for the portal.
