Even with a giant alumni base and unimaginable success, football only now has top 20, not top ten resources. I’m reasonably confident that Devries, like Cig, doesn’t perceive limitations, and like Cig, he is spending a larger than normal proportion on staff salaries. A competitive budget is needed, but budget isn’t the primary factor for champions. People, process, and persistence is more indispensable.

And the Heismendoza finalists arrive in NYC. Fernando is gracious, charismatic, and classy. Sayin is an outstanding young man. Pavia is one part Jersey Shore reject, one part dumb @$$, and a little sprinkle of hilarious.

There are two certainties for me: Cig, Shanny, and Whitmer see Alberto every day and already know if he is going to be their featured heir apparent. If they do not want Alberto to be their guy? They will have a **** ton of portal QB's dying to be the guy at IU.

If the portal abides, Makalusky, Beaumont, Caffey, and Zania will still be in IU's starting lineup two plus years from now, and we're adding multiple four star freshmen to the mix next year. This is a rebuild with a very, very high ceiling.
