IU vs Western Kentucky Game Thread
All_Hoosiers replied to Naturalhoosier's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
I'm a WKU student. It's odd not rooting for Indiana to win. It's also odd knowing Indiana is gonna Indiana like it did. Defense obviously needs to step up for the Hoosiers. -
(2015) JUCO QB Damarcus Smith

He was awful at WKU. Maybe he's gotten better but I don't have good memories from watching him down here. -
This says Bryant is essentially down to three: Syracuse, Missouri, and Indiana. His coach says Rob Fulford is the only reason why Bryant is considering Mizzou. http://zagsblog.com/articles/thomas-bryant-postpones-indiana-visit-mizzou-up-next/ Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Rescheduled because of a school project. @AdamZagoria: Thomas Bryant has rescheduled his visit to Indiana for Oct. 17-19 Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

I remember that. I don't remember the exact words but it was something along the lines of "To clarify an unfounded rumor from a fan site." Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

(2015) SF Ogugua Anunoby to IU
Mann is more of a wing. Shake is a college pg. T. Mann is a top 100 player, a great athlete, and the son of a D1 head coach. He is no ones backup plan.
True not a backup option for Shake, but Mann was the next in line after Mitchell. Backup plan has a negative connotation. I just wouldn't say he's a number one priority just yet. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

I think Crean sees Mann as a backup because Shake is no guarantee, but he's not necessarily off the board. The fact that Crean supposedly wants Mann to come for an official visit though makes me a little more nervous. -
Good to see him doing better.
Congrats to Steve Alford for winning the PacTen tournament and getting an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament in His 1st year there. This once again proves how stupid IU is for not hiring Him. Lets review, Head Coaches since Bob Knight: Mike Davis, Dan Dakich, Calvin Sampson and now Tom Crean. None of these guys compare to IU grad and National Champion STEVE ALFORD.
It's gonna be a shame when he gets bounced early again. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

As long as we can agree that no one is dumb or feeble minded or anything for any opinion on Crean, I'm fine. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
Ok I honestly wish Crean wasn't as bad as a coach as he honestly is. The fact of the matter he just isn't as good at the Xs and Os as most elementary girls basketball coachs. We don't even run an offense. We just hand the ball off and there is no movement at all with anyone who doesn't have the ball until there is a few seconds left and we jack up a long shot. We can't even get the ball inbounds from out of bounds. Half the time we are throwing it 3/4 the court to try and get it in. No one sets pick or moves to try and get the ball in either but I assume the reason is the same as the 1/2 court offense they do not have any plays to run(at least none worth anything). The only time we look good is on fast breaks. Another thing I don't understand is if u ask a group of 7th graders how tobeat a zone they should be able to explain it to you. How can Crean or anyone on the coaching staff for that matter not understand how? If you don't understand something as simple as how to beat a zone why would you try and run a zone yourself...... Crean has to go for IU to every have a chance to be any good. We basically had a team that should have made the Final 4 with a 2 year old coaching them. Anyone who disagrees please watch all 4 guys on offense while Yogi is just dribbling around and they are all stagnant.
We should just hire this guy. Agreed. Maybe next season, but I wouldn't even count on that.

We can talk Tom Crean until we're blue in the face (and that's exactly what we've done) but he won't be fired this season.
Crean showed the team a video of the second Joe Louis-Max Schmeling heavyweight title fight from 1938 to motivate his team."To play the way that we did without Noah, which we knew it was a possibility yesterday, we knew it was reality today, we had to answer the bell," Crean said. "We did." Wow, what great coaching! I wonder if he quoted from "Rudy" too. Yawwwwnnnnnn.
Yawn, but it apparently worked. Hoosiers controlled most of the game, and Tom's done a fine job lately. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I thought Crean's response was funny. Dealing with us ain't a treat. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
Completely agree with that line. And yeah that is what scares the heck out of me with Alford. I think the boosters would get behind him, and that should play a role. But, uh, I just don't see it working out at all if he were ever hired here
Many on twitter have told me the only reason they want Alford is that he played at Indiana, which somehow magically makes him an amazing coach I guess.
Uh, that line just frustrates me. I guess I wouldn't be too upset with Crews or maybe Chaney getting the job. But the only guy who has that Indiana tie that I would be happy about would be Dane Fife. To me it seems like a number of people want Alford, and I really just don't see that working out at all, I think that is just asking for everything to go wrong. I haven't ever been impressed by Steve as a coach, and I just don't think it would work out
I wouldn't mind Crews. No one would want Steve Alford if he hadn't played at Indiana. I don't like the "Indiana guy" line. Make the best hire possible - Indiana ties or no Indiana ties. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
Agreed, but that doesn't mean the talent isn't there. It has to be there or there's no potential. I was referencing your line of confusing athleticism with talent, which isn't really true because the talent is there.
I get what you're saying. I know there's talent there, loads of potential, but it'll be a few more months to a year before we actually see a lot of it. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
The talent is there though, it's just not polished. Developing a player doesn't mean you make them more talented, it means you polished the talent that was already there. That's what happened with Vic, he didn't magically become more talented the talent he possessed became more polished. The talent has to be there or there's nothing to work with and thus nothing to develop.
There's a lot of polishing to do. Right now, the entire team is all potential and athleticism.
