I'm willing to entertain the outside possibility of many things. That doesn't necessarily mean I blindly believe them. There are plenty of logical reasons to doubt the Stevens-to-IU rumors. There's still just a silly part of me that holds out the tiniest sliver of hope that he's coming. Even if we don't get him, I do believe there is a great hire still to be made. And I have faith in Dolson.

6th in the Big Ten would be Indiana's second-best conference finish since 2016 and an immediate improvement. To be fair.

You're probably right. If not for the folks on this board and elsewhere who seem pretty connected, I would have zero hope for Stevens at this juncture. And even then that hope is likely misplaced. However for my own sanity I'm letting myself believe, because the last 20+ years of Indiana basketball have been absolute misery, aside from a few rays of sunshine peeking through the clouds from time to time. I will switch back to pessimism when I feel all hope is gone. But I'm not there yet.

Kelsey and Pope were underwhelming hires at Louisville and Kentucky, and look how those have turned out. Kentucky fans in particular were swearing off the program because they couldn't believe that Danny Hurley didn't leave his repeat-national title program for Lexington. It's likely Indiana ends up with a similarly un-sexy hire. And yet, McCollum might be the best coach of those three. I think we'd be very fortunate to get him.

Indeed. I think Woodson would've had some legitimate ammunition to support his case for a 5th year at this point. Especially if IU goes on a run in the BTT or even the NCAAT. Would've just divided the fanbase further. It's good we got it out of the way and settled long before any of that. Now it doesn't have to be a distraction for the players or the staff at the most important point in the season.

This thread is nearing 2000 pages. We've been discussing Beard since around page 800. And now we have multiple credible sources saying he has been vetted and is not a candidate. Personally I would prefer to discuss individuals who actually are candidates. That's just my preference though, and I shared that. If you would like to continue discussing someone who, according to credible sources, is not a candidate, then feel free. There's even a dedicated thread just for him. As far as I'm concerned it's a complete waste of time however. Anyways, you're rude. You immediately came in hot attacking me for sharing information that's been corroborated by multiple reliable people, basically stating that if it's not on ESPN it's not true. I gave my opinion based on that information. That's what a message board is for. If you want to be spoon-fed your info hours/days after it's already news, then stick to ESPN I guess. Otherwise quit being a d!ck.

Why are you even on a message board if you're totally disinterested in rumors? More than one reputable source has said that IU took a look at Beard and passed. Rabjohns, Goodman, and others. I really don't know why Beard is still being discussed. Everyone said "if IU vets him and decides to move forward I'll be on board" and then IU vetted him and passed. Discussion's over on that front as far as I'm concerned. Can we please just move on?

I simply refuse to believe there's any real shot Brownell is an actual candidate. At BEST we are doing him a favor by "considering" him as a candidate. Turgeon is just a meme started by one dude on this board lmao

The temptation to panic and overreact is powerful. I've felt the urge all day today. Everyone just take a chill pill. I think we're gonna be alright. Scott Dolson has proven that he knows how to hire the right man for a job. He's playing this close to his chest. No one actually knows what's happening. Let it breathe. Goodman hates IU and loves to rile up us fans. Any opportunity to do so, he takes it. Don't forget that.

I personally would not take Collins over McCollum. Just my two cents. Collins is a good coach and has done pretty well with the hand he’s been dealt at Northwestern. But he’s not massively exceeded any expectations. McCollum has done that and more at every stop he’s had. The ceiling is much higher with him.

Guys obviously Goodman knew we needed to get to 2k pages before the Brad Stevens announcement, that’s why he tweeted what he did. Everyone just relax.

It is well-known that tweeting about Indiana is great for engagement. Everyone who covers college basketball loves tweeting about IU because it always ends up in a blockbuster tweet. People just can’t help themselves. It’s important not to put too much stock in whatever random journalists say who don’t have close ties to the program. Goodman has good sources, but his sources are not in the IU athletic department. So there’s only so accurate his sources can be. Rabjohns just the other day was saying he’s heard mixed things about basically every candidate. Information changes constantly and it’s difficult to verify anything. What’s true one day can become untrue the next, and vice versa. Bottom line: nothing’s a done deal till it’s official. And we don’t actually know what’s going on. Dolson is keeping this thing locked down.

We’re gonna look back on last year’s decision to retain Woodson as a major inflection point in Indiana basketball history, and not in a good way. We could’ve had Dusty May or Bruce Pearl. Instead we’re left with nothing but scraps because most coaches don’t want to deal with the cluster**** that is Indiana. I trust Scott Dolson. The issue is that he was not permitted to do his job last year, and it put Indiana’s dysfunction on full display and scared off many high level coaches. It’s entirely possible that IU still lands a big time coach. But I’m more and more worried with every day that passes.
