No it was not. Archie definitely didn’t land Langford out of luck because of what happened to Pitino at Louisville. There was a ton of money involved there. Indiana boosters were excited about the new coach and believed he would get IU up and running. That was perhaps the one time in Archie’s tenure I felt he truly weaponized the full weight of Indiana’s support system to land a dude we desperately needed. It’s unfortunate Langford played with a broken thumb his entire freshman season. It could’ve been a truly special year in spite of Archie’s coaching.

Very true. A good friend of mine was workout buddies with Eric Gordon’s dad and would play pickup ball with him at the JCC in Indy. He told me a few days before it came out that he was flipping to IU. I asked how he knew, and he said Gordon’s dad told him IU swooped in with a much bigger offer than Illinois could pony up. It was an easy choice. IU has dropped more bags than people realize. Archie Miller was no Boy Scout like some seem to think. How do you think he got Khristian Lander and Romeo Langford?

They have a legitimate case. Their tournament résumé was objectively better than North Carolina’s on almost every level. But most importantly, the UNC AD was the chairman of the committee AND received a $104k bonus for his school making the tourney. WVU’s snub is one of the most egregious I’ve ever seen, and North Carolina absolutely didn’t deserve to get in over them. I don’t know if there’s precedent for anything like this, and I don’t think they’re likely to win. But I think it should be interesting if it gets to discovery without being tossed out.

This has me pumped man. A few things we can glean from this: 1) Regional media (Bozich, Rabjohns, etc) are locked out; the Brownell smoke is nothing. I think we can also ignore Rabjohns' hot boards 2) "Dolson has given very strict orders" implies that there's been far more going on behind the scenes than any of us know, and it's likely no one outside of a small circle knows who the hire is going to be. But it gives confidence that Dolson knows what he's doing. 3) "I'll be able to take the lid off a bit later in the week" seems to imply that we have our guy and an announcement is coming this week; this also indicates our coach is not currently in the tourney. I have zero reason to doubt @JerryYeagley23. He has stayed silent for nearly a month, which leads me to believe he's following Dolson's "strict orders" rather than posting whatever the latest rumor he hears. I have more confidence than ever that Dolson has made an excellent hire and cannot wait to support our new coach.

He's heard the rumors but doesn't believe them. When it comes to the candidates' names that we've heard from national reporters like Thamel and Goodman, that's essentially the entirety of his hot board. Which leads me to believe he doesn't have any sources within the athletic department proper and is basing his reporting on the coach/agent side. Unlike past coaching searches he's covered, such as in 2021 or 2017, he appears totally locked out of this by Dolson. I'm not saying we're getting Stevens. But based on what I've seen and heard from folks who appear to have some form of inside info, there's a ton of positive buzz around this hire. Which is a stark contrast from the doom and gloom on Peegs. Clearly there's an information gap. We will see who is better informed here shortly.

Not sure it's either of those guys (could be, but I wouldn't bet on it). But your assessment is otherwise correct based on everything I've heard. The one thing I keep coming back to is that it makes zero sense for Dolson to have convinced the powers that be to let him force Woodson out, only to have no concrete plan and end up with a desperation hire. Dolson is far too smart to do that.

Based on what I've seen and heard from a handful of folks much more plugged in than myself, it is definitely not Brownell. I could be wrong, but I trust the people I follow.

As previously discussed, the reason why folks believe Stevens may still be in play despite hearing no leaks of the sort is because of the following: 1) his wife is his agent, so the circle of people who know any sort of move he might make is extremely small 2) his past career moves (from Butler to Celtics HC in 2013, and Celtics HC to President in 2021) occurred with zero leaks prior to official announcements, and came as complete shocks to everyone I'm not saying I think it's Stevens, but IF it were to be him, it would logically follow that a move like this would only occur under total radio silence. That's always been his M.O.

He's definitely got friends in the athletic department, but whether or not those are "sources" in the context of a coaching search is unlikely. That said, he does drop some info from time to time, usually quite subtly. But today he tweeted out "smokescreen" (albeit, with emojis for what I assume is plausible deniability purposes) not long after Bozich's Brownell tweet. Which is a more brazen use of his platform to get out some sort of message. I believe that he knows more than he lets on, but tries his best not to step on the toes of anyone in the athletic department.
