  1. So let's say our someone (anyone) says yes before we are finished playing (or has) - what's the pros and cons of when we announce? - my 2 cents: 1) As soon as they sign even if we are playing still. Anytime from now to end of NCAAT. - ~1% chance. My thought is this is highly unlikely while we are playing. No need to undercut team. Then why even 1% chance? I say 1% cause I feel like this is something that would happen if CW goes off the rails and walks or team issues that aren't easy to ignore. No information - just justification for 1% vs 0%. 2) As soon as IU is finished playing (or the next day). i.e. BTT lose or NCAA loss - if we get in. - ~30% chance. I'm mixed on this - why announce right after a downer? But why not announce as soon as possible? 3) A couple days after/right before a big tourney weekend. i.e. we lose on a Saturday - season over - wait till following Thursday so it hits a lot press during Tourney weekend. - ~25% chance - Time it for impact but let team/coaches do last of season press so they aren't asked their opinion repeatedly. No reason for them to have to address this and little advantage to announcing right after a loss. 4) Weekend before march 24 (portal opens) - so Mar 22/23. - ~20% chance. Lotsa good press since that will be a weekend with a lot of eyes on cbb and high impact would make the talk of a lot of halftimes. That can only help recruiting. 5) As soon as our new Coach is ready to announce - may be playing? - ~20% Speaks for it's self - new coach let them have some control of message and date/time of announcement. 6) Forced into it - meaning timeline is pushed up. - ~4% Comes out early and the AD wants to control the spin so they announce as soon as the leak goes out. Thoughts?
  2. Ha! My mom loved the malware filled free games. I would try to bring the the boys to see her every time I could and every time I walked through the door I spent the next 2 hours removing malware and virus from her 'it's just running real slow' laptop (state of the art when clean) while she played with the boys. Miss those days everyday.
  3. Oh she knows, she's keeping it all to herself!!!!! Apply the reverse mom guilt and get that info!
  4. what gives me hope? Early retirement push is working perfectly. It's letting fans on both sides just cheer. Team seems motivated at a level they haven't been IMHO. And ultimately it makes a good story. Ex star player trying to ride off on a win. No matter how it really happened in reality - the story is a good one. Reason l mention this as I watch Peacock pregame they spent a lot of positive time on IUs chances for tournament. As long as SD is allowed to do his job, I've been impressed with his choices. I'll be very surprised if we aren't happy going into the off season.
  5. And Uconn with Ollie (though at least he actually got the NC)
  6. Smarter people then me (long list) consider BS a basketball prodigy. A brilliant guy who could have done anything but loved basketball - as far as I know he walked away from a very lucrative career future at Lily to volunteer at Butler. I'm sure most of that is exaggerated over the years but I do think everything he's touched has turned gold (at the least gotten much better). His name comes up with every big job for a reason - the unicorn that got away from college basketball. Go look at UNC, Texas, Kansas, UK, etc... forum whenever there is a rumor of a new coach - he's almost everyone's first call even though they know he's a -1% chance. He's clean cut, charismatic, brilliant, and can handle the pressure. And yes, I'd leave my wife for him if I thought it'd get him here (joking of course, I mean unless...)
  7. OK - how didn't this get leaked? Maybe I should revisit my stance on conspiracy theories (no more then 2 people can keep a secret and then only if they aren't married): Davis extension: The agreement was reached in July, but the deal was signed in December, according to a copy of the contract obtained by WRAL on Tuesday. Are any of these 'site owners' connected at all? The insiders on UNC 247 have said nothing about this on their sites and have been speculating on his firing since the second week of the season. Crazy.
  8. I've heard the same thing from a number of people - I'm not nearly as connected as people on here but I have lived in Btown since college - let's just say 30+ years - and do know some people - mostly IT in AD. Many of them have said 'yeah it seems to be all over the place info-wise' - or more likely it's made to look that way. Makes sense - stuff is gonna get out - what's the easy way to keep people guessing? When something 'correct' gets out put out some fake info as well.
  9. Tony's usually pretty spot on if I remember right - others said the same.
  10. On other boards/forums - I do think it's kinda weird how so many 'regulars' and site owners jump on anyone who has a rumor or overheard a statement. Honestly one of the things that brought me to this board since I have subscriptions to 3 others and very rarely post in any of them. Kinda nice to read stuff whereas as long as someone seems like they are just trying to add to the info they aren't attacked right away. Trilly is similar but a wreck to read - gives me a headache. The reason I bring that up is 'why haven't we heard any of this from other site owners?' Rabby has hinted that he hears things that aren't collaborated by the university but couldn't he just obfuscate his sources enough to be able to drop hints? Do you think they don't want the hassle of being dragged through social media if they are wrong? Being asked to not communicate info (they do rely on being able to get access)? I know it's super early but none of the sites I pay for are sourcing anything. Like anything. Haven't seen 'a board member has told us that the search is wide open but we are focusing on this criteria....' - just a general outline of what they expect in a candidate? Just possible lists based on fandom more then anything imho. I remember being shocked by Sampson and kinda surprised by Crean but I remember some real leaks on Miller - 2 schools of thought were the loudest Donovan and Miller near the beginning of the search. As social media and information avenues expand it would seem very difficult to keep this stuff secret imho. Is that selective memory?
  11. We had Malik for the Bahamas.
  12. Definitely different situation- in beautiful Bloomington IT as long as an employee isn't going to a competitor (no such beast in town) we are okay with some crossover for easier transitions. Mostly we want institutional knowledge passed on. If I'm the Celtics owner wouldn't see going to college game as a threat of compromised interests. Not saying it's happening but I'd not be too worried. (Not to mention the incestuous pool for hiring- always a chance you see the same people so why burn bridges/make it a hard transition?)
  13. I think you are joking but if you aren't- everything I hear is that 'Mark T' is going on UNC staff - Hubert is loved and others want him tossed so to appease both sides they are cleaning house on support structure i.e. setting up an NBA type structure around Davis.
  14. I didn't know it got that far last time - thanks
  15. I thought it was here? - someone wrote about series of incidents - one where Beard got drunk in front of Pat Knights inlaws and was a real @$$ - another was about the 'vids' of Beard being wasted in college bars (https://kkam.com/drunk-chris-beard-ruins-texas-tech-fans-christmas/) - seemed like they had done their research - knew stuff Again just rumors. Do I believe them? Maybe but I think they should allow an independent group to vet Beard - he's a solid choice from just a coaching standpoint - if there's smoke there then rule him out.
  16. When this and a couple other stories came out last week - https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/could-indiana-make-a-play-for-dusty-may-michigan-can-get-ahead-of-any-interest-with-revised-contract/ Trilly discord had some people claiming smoke was real and there was talks with agents? Such a mess may be hard for me to find - wasn't Trilly himself
  17. I'm not trolling - I know 'exactly what a troll would say!' but here's what I've read/heard/seen so far - RUMORS - feel free to correct/add: 1) Drew may be interested - that fact is interesting since UK has been the only job that's he's even given a sideward glance to in years 2) Bennett and Wright may actually be in play - thus why we are supposedly building the NBA like infrastructure - they would recruit old school if they choose to (Woodson made that voluntary - sorry couldn't help my self) and Coach. The new NIL junk they hate - they wouldn't have to deal with. They come up with a list of who they want and hand it off to their negotiators. Apparently how Saban ran Alabama long before NIL :) 3) Brad is still an option but it has been made very clear by the powers that be 'loose lips sink ships' so if this is who you want it's in our best interest to keep your mouths shut. I don't buy that BS or any other big name coach would walk away because of a leak - they've all worked or been part of rabid fan bases (Celtic fan base is pretty nasty at times) so their skin is thick - but there are professional advantages and expected politeness for keeping it quiet till the season is over. 4) Beard is not an option - Pat Knight does not recommend Beard and has made that clear to SD due to other problems (don't shoot the messenger - I just heard that a couple times on boards/discord) 5) We've got a 'verbal' yes I'm very intersted from May from his agent. Until he signs an extension with UM - I'm inclined to believe this one 6) There has been a lot more interst this time around then last - like a ton - how many are fishing for a better contract where they are? Not sure but obviously with NIL and investment in AD has gotten many a coach to the table that hasn't been there in a while. What am I missing? (NONE OF THIS IS FIRST HAND - I know nothing)
  18. maybe but I think it's a good guess - if someone was told to 'lay off but IF anything comes of it then you'll be the first to know' that would support the wording and timing of the 'denial of interest'. Again - I know nothing - but makes sense.
  19. I get that but if we don't get May or Stevens - man the list I see with realistic opportunities is so much better then I remember during Miller time (but more importantly I don't count Woodson since I believe the stories that Buckner took over and forced the Woodson issue) . The list I heard was realistic then: 1) Mack - we tried and failed (pure rumors but that's what I heard) 2) Miller Others discussed: 3) Cronin (think most considered Miller a better coach at the time if I remember correctly) 4) Alford (heard he really wanted it but still had the ghost of Iowa following him if I remember right) 5) Donovan (oh the horse farm but alas everything I've ever heard it never got past curiosity stage) I remember only being excited about Donovan tbh. But the current names thrown around? 1) the bar is low right now so everyone of them is a better coach imho 2) there's some real game changers in the list imho Even as deep as 4 or 5 I see potential I haven't seen in the last 2 hires. I may be wearing my crimson colored glasses but I like our odds.
  20. I gotta agree with this - CB won 6 regular season conference titles from 2013 to 2023 - a time period when often the ACC was considered the best conference. This was going against UNC and Duke when some consider their talent pools the highest they've ever been during that period. A clean coach who wins with less talent. I wasn't entirely happy with his last second retirement to insure that his guy got a chance - but I get it.
  21. Agreed - there's no longer siting in front of a grainy TV watching channel 4 with the family (though the archaic interface of Peacock does feel similar - really in this day and age I can't rewind? Seriously. Sorry I digress). But I remember scrounging/begging/borrowing for tickets while in school - my son? He's definitely meh about it (sophomore at IU).
  22. Like many of you - I've been around for every coaching change after RMK (and sadly refreshed boards since then - first time was IIBF and Indy Star boards mostly) but this one feels real important. Like generational anchor important. Us RMK fans are getting long in the tooth - less and less fans remember even that 1991 team. We haven't had a coach since that's created a legacy. Crean a bit, I guess, but it was still too up and down and he needed a deeper run then sweet 16 to insure that imho. But the point being is - this feels like our time to make or break this brand to a certain degree. Very dramatic I know. I'm sure I felt this way the last 3 hires - but this time just seems heavier - do you all feel that way? I guess in the NIL age you don't have to wait 3 or 4 years to evaluate so you can 'fail fast' but can we afford to do that again? SD has got to be feeling this.
  23. Good point on effective roster turnaround - I think UM, UofL, and UK turnarounds have really made Shrew on the hotspot whereas even 3 years ago he would have had at least 4 years before hot seat was mentioned (his cubbard was bare at ND imho). ND has some tough admittance as well (son entertained the idea of going - decided on IU but it was almost a very expensive choice) so did that effect what he could get from the pool? It's burned UM in the past.
  24. That's exactly what I would do if I had friends :( (and they knew stuff). Seriously though - I think ITS POSSIBE Goodmans info was pointedly placed to say 'hey shut up - professionally I'm not going to burn a bridge and embarrass or put my current employer in a weird spot - they know it but there's no professional tactical advantage of announcing anything right now til it is 'done''. So pushing it could do harm to negotiations. Not to mention it's still a fun exercise to debate and evaluate options - for me more fun then watching games sadly enough.....
  25. I'm sure I'm being paranoid/over thinking this but is this year a bad year to evaluate Coaches? Or maybe coaches evaluations have to be weighted differently then anything before these big changes. 1) How did a coach perform pre-TP and pre-NIL? Does that matter as much? Seems you would have to evaluate if they had better talent vs minimal talent - for me there was a larger disparity of talent in these years so that has to be taken into effect for or against depending on what school they were at. 2) After TP and NIL? What was their 'budget' - how well did they spend it? If they had none - how did their team change (lost talent)? GM evaluation along with coaching. I think you have to understand budget and coaching pre and post NIL - along with the other. I guess I say it's a 'bad' year cause do we have a good sample size of how well Coaches are embracing this new model? Plus the model is changing probably in the next year ot 2 - so how well did they adept to change?
