(2026) - Anthony Thompson to O$U
Pagoda replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
As we know the shoe companies often play such a big role with these top players. Is this a situation where Adidas should be stepping in to help us pretty substantially on the money front? I'm honestly not sure what we should be expecting from our apparel partner in a situation like this. -
Cig’s salary went from around 5% of our athletic dept revenue to 7%. It’s really not a huge deal to pay him this much. And with the increase in FB program revenue he’s likely going to pay for himself and then some. FB is the only sport that can make big $ in an athletic dept. Once again, great work Scott, Pam, donors, and IU.

This was in another thread but I'll yap about it here. IMO, Memorial Stadium has always been knocked because there was no crowd and it's actually a bit underrated and more of a mid-pack B1G stadium. First off, the north endzone is great. It incorporates our campus architecture and adds a regal/stately character most college stadiums don't have. The south endzone wasn't as good, not a great use of space, but it does generally match the rest of stadium and the outside looks very good when the pregame shows come to town. The east and west stands are steep and curved towards the field, which helps with the atmosphere, and the notched walls at the bottom are a nice touch. I think it looks pretty good, especially when it's packed on TV. Outsiders are pretty complimentary of it when they see it. We've come a long way from what it was in 2008. Yes, it's not exactly a comfortable place and the press box is way outdated, but that's pretty typical for a CFB stadium used around eight times per year. Our crowds are coming along. You can tell when a crowd really wants it, AH is that way, and it's starting to happen to Memorial. I don't know what the renovations will be -- clearly it's looking like suites/premium seating additions and a new press box, which will impact the east stand and maybe the west. Probably my biggest question is if they replace the entire east and west stands or just build up behind/on the current ones. It's sort of a project management challenge with just eight months of offseason and you don't want to lose capacity during the season. We shall see.

Sheesh. I know they put more of their rev share towards bball than the rest of the SEC, but that's a huge number that I almost don't believe. Only 9th in the preseason AP too... Gonna be funny when they don't win it all.

I’ve got serious issues with Herbie. 2024 IUFB was a great story worthy of celebrating and promoting. It’s fine to critical of us at OSU and ND, but there is context to those games (those were the best two teams in the country). But no, Kirk singled us out as undeserving and a problem with the playoff system. Didn’t hear hardly a peep about Boise, SMU, Clemson, or Tennessee who lost big. Just this week he still claims we didn’t beat a team with a winning record last year, which is wrong. We jammed him with the Oregon win and he had to give us credit. So, I’m not a fan. He is no friend of ours. I also think he has quite the ego and the whole bring his dog everywhere to boost his approval rating thing is corny and weak.

100%. Whenever we redo the press box and/or add suites, we should incorporate something like this.

Same. I was just wondering if other schools count all their campuses too so it’s an apples to apples comparison. Nothing to do with one campus being better or worse than another. If you went to an IU campus you are clearly an IU alumni.

If you want more Cig content, here is a longish Cig interview with a national guy in Klatt. Starts around 26 minutes in. Nothing direct about the coach opening rumors. Just mentions the usual he's said before about Pam/Scott, IU’s strong commitment to date, liking Bloomington, and how we have to get football investment to a top third level in the conference.
-
Hmm. Our Bloomington campus enrollment has been #10-20 for a very long time. I wonder if we count satellite campuses or something. I don’t get how it’s true. But, I’ll drop this topic, no one wants to see my posts disputing a stat that has IU #1 lol.

We are really pushing the this largest alumni base thing. It’s great and we do need to get everyone engaged. But if I am honest, I am pretty sure most large state schools have somewhat similar sized alumni bases.

Off the court trouble at Iowa. https://nypost.com/2025/10/13/sports/iowa-guard-tavion-banks-arrested-for-alleged-role-in-drunken-bar-fight/

I'm sure developers would love to turn the library into luxury apartments integrated with mixed use retail. "The Herman B Wells Lofts." Studios starting at $1,999/month.

It's pretty crazy how many head coach openings there are now and how many are probably coming: Current: - PSU - Va Tech - UCLA - Arkansas - Okie St. Soon: - UNC Chance of a change in next year or two: - Florida - Florida St. - Wisconsin - Auburn - Michigan State - South Carolina I probably missed a few. One that could be coming and it's a top-5 or so mega-job is Michigan. Sherrone is stumbling a bit and his buyout isn't much for UM. If he has a bad rest of this year, I could see UM losing faith in him. Anyways, I don't have anything else to say except it's quite the list.
