  1. It was legal then too. The rule was actually illegal, it just hadn’t been challenged in court.
  2. Sounds like a guy in contention for the IU job to me.
  3. Not sure why people think Iowa is going to snag some good coaches. Their NIL is in shambles. Boosters weren’t donating what they pledged so 1 guy has had to foot the bill for like the last several months to ensure the players get what is contractually obligated to them. A top coach isn’t going to Iowa.
  4. Except for where he is coaching. He is by far the best coach ever there. Done things no other coach has done at NW. NW isn’t lowering academic standards and isn’t playing in the grey either. He has been a huge success and elevated NW well above their previous best.
  5. I’m a Michigan football fan, so I hear and read a lot of basketball crossover. Dusty has had a good year and they are happy. But they also have recognized that once he got figured out, he didn’t have a plan B. And they have struggled down the stretch.
  6. Dusty isn’t ending the season well in a lower conference. So it’s not like he has set some insurmountable bar.
  7. I agree with this as a generalization. I was the opposite. I wasn’t a fan of May last year, but liked what I saw from him this year. Except his team has faded badly to end the season. Be interesting to see how he adjusts moving forward.
  8. Chris Collins is undervalued by many on this site. What he has done at NW has been remarkable. I’d take home 100 times out of 100 over Brownell. He wouldn’t be my first choice but I do think he could do very well at IU. If he is the floor of the search, then IU will be just fine.
  9. Where is Birdman when you need him? IYKYK
  10. I’d go for a mid major guy like McCollum over Brownell. If it’s a roll of the dice then go with the guy who could have some upside. Brownell will be fired in 4 years at IU, maybe less.
  11. So he is saying it’s Beard without saying it’s Beard. Lol
  12. It’s why you need both regular season and some post season success. But an elite coach will break through if they are consistently a top 1-4 seed in the tournament. That’s where the regular season success comes in and is so important.
  13. I thought he was going to get fired last year. But they won the ACC tournament and got into the dance and made a run. He isn’t a good coach and he got an additional year bc of 1 run. He is the prime example of why I think k regular season success should be more important than NCAA success when hiring a new head coach.
  14. They will win the conference regular season and tournament in year 1. If they get to the second weekend of the NCAA’s, then I think Dolson has to seriously consider McCollum. We missed out on the last wunderkind. Archie wasn’t a wunderkind, there were plenty of us who doubted.
  15. This is just bad basketball. Please Lord let the next coach at IU have an elite offense and an elite defense.
  16. Mine too. Has been for a decade now.
  17. NIL just means players can get paid. Forget how it’s was supposed to be. That’s not the reality. The reality is it’s lay for play. This is minor league basketball now. The collective’s are the boosters who pay the players. So it’s all above board now, which gives IU an advantage since they have the funds but wouldn’t use them under the previous system. And there is nothing wrong with pay for play. The old system was actually illegal and was deemed so in court.
  18. Collectives can talk to whoever they want when they want. They are not an official arm of the university.
  19. I may have missed it, but I haven’t seen a single person say what Beard did was ok. But let chill will characterizing people as POS.
  20. This I can agree with. Listening through some basketball podcasts over the last 3 weeks, one of the key metrics for winning it all is offensive efficiency. There are a few outliers but all but like 3ish national champions had top 5 offenses on Kenpom. The outliers were still top 25. But the defensive efficiencies were also top 25, most top 10. So to me it’s more important to have an offensive minded head coach than defensive. But the defense needs to still be top 25 on kenpom.
  21. As a Christian, I believe that people can change and become better people. A basic tenant of the faith is we are all redeemable, everyone of us. So I will not write someone off because of a terrible action. Doesn’t mean what he did was right. Doesn’t mean he should be hired to coach at IU. But feel free to laugh, it says more about you than me as a Christian.
  22. Yeah they were lamenting that they had a good thing going with the 2 bugs in the pick and roll, but when it got found out they have had a game every 3 days (didn’t look it up for accurcacy), making it difficult to adapt. But as much as we as a collective fanbase all like Dusty, it does make me wonder. His team is fading in February/March. Power conference basketball is different. It take a physical toll on your team and you need multiple styles of play that can complement each other when something isn’t working. Dusty hasn’t shown that yet.
  23. Well they do. See Quinn Buckner. I say this as an observation. People in the state view Bloomington as the black sheep. They love the basketball and sports but they don’t align with the university or the town in general. Bloomington is actually a shrinking population as well. This isn’t a defense of Beard, but the outrage you seem to think will happen will be a minority. If he wins and keeps to a good path in his personal life it will be a redemption story.
  24. college athletics is now professional sports with revenue sharing and NIL. I say this as someone who thinks what Beard “allegedly” did as terrible. The players are literally getting paid to play, the definition of professional sports.
