This is a concern for sure. My confidence in Carr comes from people I know that follow the Pacers closely or work there themselves. All the feedback I’ve heard is he is excellent. I’m more concerned with will he have the necessary resources to fix this in a year or will they have to money ball it and build through high school recruiting which will take 2 more years imo.

He was asked in the chat last night and everyone knows until they are in the portal he isn’t going to give a name but gave the answer that got out.

It’s the NBA roster building method. Get a couple max guys and then fill the roster with JAG’s that fill a role but have flaws in their game. I’m definitely interested in how they build the roster out. I don’t think paying 5 guys 1.5 mil each and then a couple million for the rest to round out the roster will be good enough bc we will miss the top end talent to put us over the top. I’d much rather get 2 guys at $3 mil and then a guy at like 1.5. Then fill in the rest with jags and freshmen. Then keep building through high school recruiting by stacking classes.

Come to IU as an assistant and bring your recruiting class with you. lol.

Which is why it won’t get passed that list bc they put the guy on there that will definitely take it if offered. He is a good coach though and would win. If I were them I’d offer him out the gate to get the staff in place asap and get the roster settled.

If a 5 star freshman is cheaper than a portal vet I’d take the 5 star freshmen. Thinking Muurinen would be better money spent than some of the top names we’ve seen enter the portal.

I think Arizona is the team to beat for him.

Convince? You mean over pay for. We dont have a winning pedigree the last 20+ years. We will need to overpay to get an elite roster. Or we will need to nail the evaluations of lesser known guys that will be good enough for the big ten and get us dancing again.

While I agree with your sentiment. I would like to see some guys from power conference programs too. More importantly to me does the athletic profile translate?

I know nothing about him other than his stats and size and saw a picture. But if he is quick enough to play defense? he appears long enough and looks to be athletic, but I’d have to watch some film to see if he truly is.

He has a 2 year track record in devision 1. He doesn’t have a long track record against coaches at the top of the profession. You’re making a leap to think his lower division record automatically will translate to long term success. He will be going up against pros with a team that’s will lose his best player who sets the tone. Will he be able to find the next Stirtz? Maybe. But they also lost 7 of 9 to finish the year and his team played well this weekend. Judy is still out. I think k we both feel the other is making decisions off mental gymnastics. I’m not writing him off at all. I’m saying this is his ceiling. He won’t have a more talented roster because Iowa will. It give him the support for him to excel. It’s more of an indictment on Iowa than McCollum. Bo Ryan and Tony Bennett are great coaches and I wouldn’t want them at IU either because I’d rather have a team that plays an attractive style and also win.

Iowa fans weren’t happy just a week ago because the style of play. They are happy with this opening weekend and now they get a rival so that will be fun. But they slide back to being .500 again next year and lose in the first round the fans will not be happy again.

It is. Iowa is dependent on Stirtz to either score or draw the defense to him to allow for others to get shots. He has a star on his team and has for 4 years. Let’s see what he can do once the star is gone and little resources to get another one.

And he is reliant to find a NBA prospect that’s been overlooked by everyone basically yearly. It’s why I’m not worried about Iowa or McCollum. I’m worried about who is IU landing in the portal. We have a solid freshmen class coming and off to a solid start for the following class. Land a solid big ten roster through this portal and things are looking up and everyone will chalk year 1 up to new position, like a lot of successful coaches who don’t excel in year 1.
