  1. I agree. But I just found it hard to believe a player with his skill set doesn’t know how to do that. Maybe the staff is asking him to do things he can’t. I dunno.
  2. Kopp needs to be complete set to have any chance of making a 3, yet he has zero clue how to find space and get set.
  3. Parker gives up a wide open three to get stuffed at the rim. I’m at a loss for words with our decision making.
  4. These guys can’t make two footers. I want to be mad at Woodson about the offense but our talent on offense is probably bottom 2-3 in the league.
  5. I think we have more turnovers than FGs
  6. I think Bates will be able to in time.
  7. Well, we already beat one, so….
  8. Purdue’s offense is clicking on all cylinders but Rutgers is trying to hang in there. This version of Rutgers is going to be very tough for IU to beat. We’re going to regret blowing those Wisconsin games come selection Sunday.
  9. You ain’t from the south side of Chicago
  10. Ivey just returned the favor with a monster dunk. Good game so far.
  11. Wow…Edy just took a dunk to the face that will have Purdue wishing instant replay was never invented.
  12. Hate to be a pessimist, but it’s tough to see how we have much of a chance here. I guess we did beat them once, although that seems like a long time ago at this point.
  13. Feel the same. I can’t get too worked up over a slap against Wisconsin. Those douches are the annoying guy in pickup who plays overly physical and when called on it goes “what…I’m just D-ing up bro.” He’ll get suspended and he should. It’s a dumb move and they’re lucky it didn’t spill over into the players. But he did what everyone has wanted to do and the fact that it was one of their former try-hard players on the receiving end makes it even better. Also Howard seems like it an idiot. So if he’s fired, who cares? I’m marking this down as a true win-win for Hoosier fans.
  14. Isn’t the game still in progress?
  15. Fired? Wisconsin guys deserve to be punched about 5x a game.
  16. Most probable. Rutgers is on a tear. Playing the best ball in the conference. I’m not sure we’ll be favored to beat them at this point.
  17. Respectfully, I don’t think you do understand the philosophy. Parker shoots 43% from 3 on over 4 attempts a game. That leads the team. By a lot. kopp shoots 37% on almost 3 attempts. That is second on the team. They’re our two best shooters. Period. They’re also currently 2 of our 8 best players so they have to play. Your solution is to surround TJD with worse shooters giving him more double teams? Or you want to make our bench unit worse by adding two players who can’t defend without interior shot blocking, or you want to give our two best shooters less open looks by not playing them with the only guy that commands a double team? Galloway and Bates are playing similar minutes, but they have a better chance at creating their own shot and defending their own position. They’re also not good 3pt shooters. Pairing them with TJD doesn’t really net you as much.
  18. Serious answer: your best player is a pure post guy who needs a little space to operate. The thinking has to be that Kopp and Parker provide that because they can knock down 3’s. When teams crowd TJD, like wisky did at the game, our offense grinds to a halt. What did we get out of it? Wide open 3’s for Galloway and XJ that barely drew iron. Otoh, you saw what happened when Davidson tried to cheat to TJD and TJD kicked the ball out: made 3ptr. The flip side is that TJD’s shot blocking erases some of their matador defense. Trust me, I’m as frustrated by those two as anyone. But Woody thinks they pair better with TJD than the second unit, and I tend to agree.
  19. So I know you harp on this some, but the truth is complicated. Basically, a college coach shouldn’t have to teach most of that stuff. And if he does, then you won’t have a good team, even if you have Brad Stevens on the sidelines. Practice time is limited. A good continuity offense takes multiple seasons to install. So you have to dedicate time to that even though it won’t pay big dividends right away. Team defense can be built throughout a season, and Woody has done a solid job here. The rest of the stuff…okay, say you have to spend 5 min every practice reminding TJD not to hunt blocks. Then 5 min reinforcing Parker S not to extend his arm and get charges when he drives. Then 10 min coddling XJs emotional problems. Then five reminding Race about situational awareness behind the 3 pt line. And you know what, you should probably teach that if you must. but after a while it adds up to real time in your two hr practice. And what are Matt Painter and Gard doing during that time? Not teaching HS jv fundamentals. No…they’re installing more advanced stuff and doing game week gameplan implementation. And Gard doesn’t have to teach Davis because over the summer (when players get better) Davis worked his butt off becoming a better player when Gard wasn’t around. As the years go by Woody will own more and more of the program. Right now we’ve got problems on our hands that can’t be solved with extra layup drills and FTs.
  20. Yea, it’s not the one game. But at some point you have to win some of them. 3 weeks without winning a game after Monday. It can’t happen and maintain anything positive. We looked like a collection of parts to start. We gelled a little. Teams got tape and can make adjustments on your second trip through the conf, and we don’t have anything else to add. I think this team is kinda cooked. Maybe I’m wrong; I suppose stranger things have happened. Currently my money is on “1980’s Bob Knight couldn’t bring this team back from the dead” type of flame out.
  21. There’sa reason for that. Crean literally gave up defense for speeding into transition on offense. Transition will always be high percentage. Any team that forced IU into a half court game by controlling the pace (Bo Ryan) or playing zone (syracuse/nw) beat Creans teams. I wouldn’t want him to coach offense here even if they promised to name the arena after me.
  22. I forgot about that sequence. I tried to resist it, but I couldn’t hold it in any longer. Individually we are really low IQ. It’s amazing we play good team defense most of the time. TJD leaves his feet all the time. Galloway left his feet and got schooled by the much smaller davidson in the post. XJ is a cornucopia of bad mistake possibilities. stewart with two consecutive offensive push offs. That 3 by Race…sheesh Lander has no idea how to play D Bates is a frosh and does frosh things Geronimo constantly left his feet and slapped at the ball. Tons of missed block outs. little situational awareness of time, score, or momentum. Basic stuff a college coach shouldn’t have to spend a bunch of time correcting, quite frankly.
  23. Similar. I’ll give woody another couple years. But it’s really hard to care. Another season over.
  24. This is really the key. Last time we hit on a good 3* and a 5* lived up to the billing were Vic and Zeller. Even that team had talent issues with athleticism. And their coach was an idiot. But they were a top 5 team. Hell that’s been ten years. A f’n decade. It’s been 25 since Knight’s last decent team. every time i think this program can’t get worse they prove me wrong. IU has been run by fools for decades now. It’s crazy when you think about. You have to actually try and sabatoge yourself to be this bad.
