If he’s healthy and willing to recruit, he’s the best choice. I’m not crazy about his offense but it’s serviceable. He (previously) can recruit and coach ‘em up. He’s actually won in the B1G and recruited at that level which Stevens hasn’t (not saying he couldn’t). He’s also only 53. He could have a 10-15yr run at IU that is championship level.

Crazy to blow up a deal over that. But I can’t say I believe that. Don’t think Dolson would let that be the stickler. Who would ultimately care anyhow? Say he comes here for six years and wins a title restoring IU to greatness. The Lakers then want to hire him. It’d be awful to lose him to the pros but it’s a net positive for IU, either way. No. That’s a weird comment to me regardless of the situation. What guy who grows up in Indianapolis and lives there until he’s 35, through the Peyton Manning years no less, would root for the Patriots? If he used IU to get a raise from Boston in the middle of his worst season, then I doubt he ever returns to college. That Celtics roster is going nowhere in the East. So he limps along at $7mil a year for 3 more years. Maybe he pulled a Saban with Texas move where Ainge pissed him off so he used IU to make the Celtics come to the table. But damn that’s Macheavellian, especially if it induced IU to fire Archie. Cold blooded.

I have a hard time believing Boston upped his salary eight months after they already redid his contract and in the middle of the worst season for Stevens ever. If Mrs Stevens pulled that off she ought to be commissioned to meditate peace in the Middle East.

I’ve been following IU basketball online since the firemikedavis.com days. Ugly as it was. I also had some good connections on the Indiana HS basketball scene. So much so that I belong to some closed chat groups with Indiana coaches. The type where we see these internet wannabes text these coaches for info and then post it online as “confirmed sources.” Interesting phenomenon. With that said I moved away and didn’t keep up with that stuff for the last few years. And I’lladmit even these guys had me a little excited about Stevens. I wanted it to be so. But unless he’s pulling some Saban-esque non denial, you can’t reconcile the vernacular used by your “sources” (done deal!) here with any reality. Just all bull ****. I’m sorry to say. Ban me if you want. I’d love nothing more than Stevens to come. First heard of him from my hs coach friend who said he was shocked some dork assistant no one knew about was getting the butler head job, but everyone raved about him. Went to indy to watch them play in the F4. feel bad for iu fams, myself included, who got their hopes up...again. Seen it for twenty years now. We used to argue tealor v davis. Now its stevens v beard. But these rumors are just that...
