Why is that what Cronin would want UCLA to say?

What leverage does Cronin have to renegotiate? UCLA would say “okay, go find another job then”

What I don’t understand is this: are you saying that we would potentially hire a coach who’s selected for the NCAA tournament and instead of coaching their team would start immediately working for IU because of timing in the portal?

We have to remember that IU basketball and IU football are vastly different programs. With football you can easily hire someone like Cignetti, but trying to replicate that on the basketball side might not be the right move.

Dude, I love this post. I’m 31, went to IU from 2011-15 so I got to see the Oladipo/Zeller years, but since 2016 this program has been barely treading water outside of TJD. I am so sick of this pleading for stability just so we can at least watch IU lose in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament every year. The resources are such that we can still demand a high level program, but if these next four years are mediocre you’ll almost certainly lose an entire generation of fans. These freshman at IU were 5 years old when the Watshot happened, and have basically only grown up with Indiana basketball being no more competitive than Northwestern. If they expect to still sell out Assembly Hall, have elite NIL funding, and be relevant in the modern era of college basketball they better get this hire right.

A lot of big names get tossed around but there’s this uneasy feeling I get from the idea of hiring a coach in the back 9 of their careers.

Some people would rather be right than be successful.

I vote for 1. If we have a great coach the NIL would increase over time. If NIL is propping up an average coach we’ll be a frustrated fan base once again.

Lol this is amazing. Even if it doesn’t end up happening the amount of endless entertainment I’ve gotten from this board is totally worth it.

My middle school basketball coach would be an upgrade. That doesn’t mean Cronin is worth getting excited about.

I just got off the phone with a source that is very high up in the IU administration (initials are PW but that’s the only hint I’m giving). This anonymous person said that Brad is actually waiting until the Celtics find out which seed they’ll be in the playoffs, and then he’ll sign the contract. They also said that Goodman is being paid to be a smokescreen because they’re nervous about Shams leaking it before Woodson is gone. Something about property damage? Go Hoosiers!

I think I’m out on watching IU basketball for a while. This isn’t a serious program.

I’m 30 years old. I was a freshman and sophomore during the Zeller/Oladipo era. I was a diehard fan during the Crean tenure, the disastrous Archie Miller tenure, and during the last two seasons with Woodson. If IU doesn’t get rid of Woodson after this season I think I’m going to take a break from IU basketball. It’s hard not to feel like an abusive relationship right now and if IU can’t get serious about its basketball program I don’t see why I should be serious either.
