  1. There’s no blind faith at all in JG’s front court D, it’s blind not to see he’s one of our best. His defensive deficiency has been perimeter D, which is pretty clearly better this year, though not as good as some. Take off the blind man’s glasses
  2. That seems to require a subscription or sign-up. Here's another recent overview story addressing UT's lack of comment so far https://www.houstonchronicle.com/texas-sports-nation/college/article/Finger-After-Chris-Beard-s-arrest-a-major-17652321.php
  3. He threw her around, bruised her, bit her and choked her. I don’t need to hear his “side”
  4. I see it differently. JG is competing more with Race than Malik, the early lineups with both JG and Ren, which were very effective, aren’t being used much lately, and Race has had some really off games / parts of games and been bodied, but stays on the floor anyway. Of course he’s the better all around player but he’s not better defensively generally and especially not against strong and/or athletic bigs. The Malik-JG lineup with TJD or Gallo had real promise, but JG is on a short leash. He’s proven himself in multiple games but he still plays raw at times and Woodson wants experience or more polished play - nothing wrong with that but he sticks to that too rigidly (my op) even when we’re getting beaten up. We don’t get beaten up or play soft with JG and Malik in
  5. I wonder why most NBA coaches and many college coaches track advanced stats, I guess they’re all clueless geeks, right? Sure. I’m a believer in Woodson, but like anyone he’s not perfect, like insisting on starting and playing the same God awful underperforming backcourt all last year no matter how poorly they played. He has a stubborn streak to him, and his decisions aren’t always great. Questioning some of them isn’t blasphemy, and it doesn’t mean I don’t like him as IU’s coach. He could use some metrics, it might actually help.
  6. Yeah this is fair, in that in the last several games (unlike the first few when he played strong) he hasn't contributed well -- the "but" for me is that he can't do things when he's just not playing, and the limited minutes he's getting, on a short leash, leave little opportunity to get back to the level of contribution he was showing earlier -- and we miss out on tougher front court play. See, for example, Bates. Many here, including those who say JG "isn't good," were saying similar things about Bates, based on his early play. He started off not firing on all cylinders, in several games, his timing was off, but he was given plenty of opportunity (in part earned over the summer) and then he had a breakout game, and he's been playing really well offensively (still some work to do defensively) since and his game and contribution level is growing. I'm obviously a JG fan too (excuse me while I pin up JG posters all over my office) but it's based on what he's actually shown, with minutes. He's going to make mistakes, he needs more polish, but what he brings in front court D, rebounding, steals, blocks, athleticism with actual energy and strength, and at least some outside shooting, for me justifies his getting more time, and I'm not surprised, at all, when we get beat by "tough" teams with front court guys that while skilled just don't bring that kind of game to the floor.
  7. Definitely frustrating, and does point to our need to play a tougher front court game
  8. You're right, I have man crush on him. Lol. I disagree, he is good, his contributions are very clearly reflected in the stats (clear that Woodson is not an advanced stats guy fwiw), he's been one of our best front court defenders since towards the end of last year, but he still has some 'raw' to his game, he's not polished like Ren, and Woodson clearly still has some trust issues and has him on a shorter leash than other guys, who also make mistakes but stay in. Not going to continue this discussion, because all you do is say he's not good, see, that's why he's not getting the minutes. He'll either get played and demonstrate what he can do, or he won't, and the little jabs at my interest in seeing him and his defense, rebounding, blocking, and occasional deep 3 contribute to the otherwise "soft" play that a Rutgers' guy points out doesn't make any difference.
  9. Do hope we crush them when we play them in the Hall. And agree not hard to argue -- on some -- it's TJD and Race (as good as they are) that play a softer game, Ren and JG are definitely not soft, all the more reason for more floor time for them, and getting JHS back.
  10. I read it as saying they didn't execute the game plan well. Don't know though, and agree with WayneFleek's post. I'm going to keep hoping that JG and Ren see more action :)
  11. If the report of bite marks, bruises etc. holds up, I can't see UT keeping him, that's seriously disgusting stuff
  12. In all seriousness, there was never any doubt that he would be suspended. Even the Houston Chronicle was reporting early that the asst coach would coach this next game, and given the charges there was zero chance Beard would be anywhere near the sideline before the university’s own investigation along with the criminal process.
  13. This is the talk that's been around here for a long time now -- IU absolutely dodged a bullet in staying way away (not that he wasn't going to UT anyway)
  14. I see no way in He** he is on the sideline for this game. Just the optics of that would be, leaving aside university policy and internal investigation, etc., well, fill in the blank.
  15. $10K bond means he can post (and probably already has) 10 percent ($1,000) to be released subject to bond terms. The initial court dates are all subject to re-setting, dismissal, etc. A protective order is standard in this kind of case. There won't be any mention of charges getting dropped, that will be for consideration by the assigned prosecutor. Bill will be in the mail
  16. Yours too. I'm billing everyone
  17. What do you call 10,000 lawyers at the bottom of the sea? A good start (from the movie, Philadelphia, lol)
  18. Make sure to include my time for reading this reply, Hova's too
  19. First, let's just get this part out of the way, my rate is $450/hour. I'll send you the bill, hey, maybe I'll even accept a Zelle transfer. :) Second, and unrelated to the first point, I'm a financial institutions litigator (civil), not a criminal attorney. (I'll bill you anyway.) Third, directly related to the first point, I'm now billing my time to participate on a basketball board. $$$$ With those most important points covered, on to the substance. Assault charges are set out in Chap. 22 of the Texas Penal Code (again, I don't practice criminal law, but remember, I'm billing you anyway). In our fabulous State of Texas, an assault charge under Sec. 22.01(a)(1) -- which includes intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly causing bodily injury to another, including the person's spouse -- is a misdemeanor (Class A). Except under certain enumerated circumstances it is upgraded to a felony of the third degree (the stated charge here). One of those circumstances is where the the offense is committed against a person whose relationship is described in certain Family Code sections, and the offense is committed intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly 'impeding the normal breathing or circulation of the blood of the person by applying pressure to the person's throat or neck or by blocking the person's nose or mouth." Haven't been reading the follow up reports etc. but that seems to be the charge here from the initial limited news flash I read above. "Punishments" of such offenses are separately delineated in the Title 3 of the Penal Code, and at Sec. 12.34 for third degree felonies. That statute provides that an individual adjudged guilty of a third degree felony "shall be punished by imprisonment in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for any term of not more than 10 years or less than 2 years." (And there's also a permissive fine not to exceed $10,000 -- which will be less than my first invoice to you). I take it you pulled that up to see the 2-10 years you mention, but I wanted to go through all of this detail to ensure my bill is high enough. On whether the Texas criminal court judge could deviate from the statute, if the case were to go forward and to trial, I don't know (you still have to pay my bill), but my general understanding here is that the statutory language "shall be punished" is mandatory, and thus cannot be deviated from. I'm now going to ruminate on that, and charge you some more.
  20. Wow. What else can anyone say to this? On those allegations and the felony assault charge, would have to think he's done (and should be) unless somehow the charges are false/disproved, and that, at this point, seems at best unlikely.
