Candidate Thread: Brad Stevens (Boston Celtics)

I’m with you man. Didn’t login here in 2021 until Archie was fired and it was clear we were making a run at him or Beard -
Candidate Thread: Brad Stevens (Boston Celtics)
IUBBx5Banners replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Sorry if this has been responded to already but that is 100% true. There’s more to it though. Hayward struggled a ton post-injury and Brad continued to play him 30+ minutes and feature him as one of the 2-3 primary scoring options on the team when it was clear that Hayward wasn’t physically ready. A few legit National NBA sportswriters acknowledged this and that there was some minor grumblings about Hayward’s role post-injury -

Exactly. Obviously there’s at least some mutual interest on both sides (to varying degrees depending which side you’re sitting on I’m sure). If Dolson gets it, how could he ever think that a hiring plan contingent upon another coaching transition is in the best interest for the program, players & fans. That’s entirely too much succession risk. Doesn’t matter if he was hand groomed. -

I'm pretty sure all these outlets that are running with the "Stevens has no interest" angle are just taking his weekly radio show at face value. Until I hear otherwise, it's STEVENS TIME -

to be fair, he should've been playing Rob Williams more earlier in the season (the most common twitter gripe lol). But now he is! A coach that can adapt :) -

I think user “IU Scott” crashed the site by himself -
This was one where I saw we got in early and were aggressive. TBH, I figured it would come down to us and Louisville. I know he’s our 1A or 1B priority (I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s the coach’s top target over Trey..). It sounds like Archie & Bruiser have made the most of their time with him. His guardian gave an interview to a local paper where he mentioned how they liked how IU has clearly outlined how he’d fit and the staff incorporated some video stuff, example plays and sets, etc. where he’d fit. Arch & Bruiser could make a great case that he’d be able to come in Day 1 and operate as a secondary creator (which we sorely lacked) in our system. I personally think it’s refreshing that he’s not publicly out there on IG, Twitter continuously talking about his recruiting process...flashback to simpler times

I’m with ya man. I’ve had to control myself from getting too ahead... but I’ll admit I’ve spent way too much time thinking about an all-length 2022 lineup where we could play Mohammed + Geronimo + Kaufman + Duncombe together and trot out 4 guys with wingspans between 6’10 - 7’4.. Imagine watching teams try to move the ball and find passing lanes against that line length & athleticism!!
-
Agreed 100%. I’ve been following him for a few months and I’m loving the old school highlights & quotes he retweets (including some from Knight & Dean Smith). I personally can’t get enough of that stuff! As y’all can prolly tell, I’m riding shotgun on the AM bandwagon ... so I wanted to share a couple articles (see below) that had some really good stuff about Aminu, his backstory & move from Nigeria and his relationship with his guardian / Coach .. definitely sounds like a very disciplined environment! https://www.ozarkssportszone.com/2018/10/11/nationally-ranked-greenwood-sophomore-aminu-mohammed-has-nba-dreams/ https://www.news-leader.com/story/sports/high-school/2019/01/02/msu-basketball-recruit-5-star-aminu-mohammed/2401024002/

2022 General Recruiting Thread (Bball)

Thanks for sharing! Wow - 48.3% from 3 on nearly 4 attempts per game for a sophomore is no joke, regardless of comp -
There is an account on YouTube that uploaded all the Gauntlet and EYBL twitch streams. Lemme try and track it down. There are also a handful of long clips like this that have more than 1 game in them despite the video title. Boo Williams plays AOT Rebels around 1:45 mark. Full game footage if you can stomach the quality / angles.

That's really interesting - always great to hear first hand insights. I've been watching a ton of his and a few other recruits footage while on lockdown and have become super high on this kid..enough so that it was one of the reasons i stopped lurking around the forum. (and that SS' post is bonkers on so many levels..) I found a few clips of full unedited EYBL games where he played man to man for some stretches. I know it's AAU ball but I was relatively impressed. I don't know how relevant it is because it seems like these wing defenders are left on an island during every PnR. He seemed to generally have good awareness, anticipation and effort. He's definitely going to be very switchable. He seemed to fall back on his length, frame & athleticism to bail him out if he was out of position & recovering..and sometimes it worked. If / when he learns how to partner that physicality with strong fundamentals & good use of angles, he could be a D monster. 1 of the reasons I like him so much is how he translates so well to Archie's defensive schemes. His length & athleticism should make him elite at closing out, cutting off drives & help D, plus he's a great rebounder (HS stats are inflated but he showed he can snag during AAU).

Lol this makes no sense to me. For the most part, Al had a pretty disciplined shot selection this season. Durham was our 2nd most efficient scorer period. His TS% was 59.2%, good for 7th best in the B10. For comparison, TJD's is 60.0%, which ranks 4th. And he did this while playing a meaningful chunk of time out of position. So that being said, how is he "ineffective" if he was our most accurate 3 point shooter? Is this a volume argument? If so, was someone like Steve Kerr an ineffective 3pt shooter? I may be wrong, but it seems like the point you're trying to make is that Al doesn't have the same court gravity that other high volume 3pt shooters have. What I don't understand is how the solution isn't "give more PT to our best shooter" Rather, our best shooter should actually lose PT unless he (1) Doubles his 3pt attempts (2) Maintains/Improves 3pt % (3) Does both while limiting how much he puts the ball on the floor (even though our half court blocker/mover offense often requires this). That's a pretty high bar brotha

Sorry, I was going off your prior post when you said that adding Leal was a big reason you thought Al's minutes would go down. Wasn't sure if you were implying that he's taking some of Al's minutes because we need shooting. But on your other note..Seriously? lol. 2 players in the B10 attempted ≥6 3s a game. Both shot under <35%. Durham was 12th in the conference in 3pt% and was even more efficient on C&S opportunities. If he's not an effective spacing threat, then I don't know who on our roster is.
-
IMO, I don’t see Durham losing minutes to Leal. Al was our best shooter this year & has consistently improved his %s each year. He was our best catch and shoot threat, and a healthy Rob + Lander will allow him to play off ball much more. ITH had a nice write-up about him w/ this fancy shot chart....He’s a legit spacing threat for what I hope is a potent Lander/RP & TJD PnR attack

2022 General Recruiting Thread (Bball)

Sheesh! I’ve been catching up on the videos out there...and I really like this kid. He reminds me of Dominic James (if anyone here remembers him). I could see how he might not fit what Archie wants out of his PG. He can get a little ball dominant and will need to improve game management/ facilitating aspect of the PG position. But damn if I don’t love this kids confidence. Outside shot results are inconsistent but already has shown deep range. Catch and shoot seems quick and natural. Quick first step & doesn’t seem afraid of drawing contact despite size.
