Yep. Would not mind that at all.
-
If I were signing a multi-million dollar contract in Bloomington you better believe I'd sign it at Mother Bear's.
-
Cannot wait for his contract interpretation.
-
Yes. And even then he couldn't unilaterally void the entire contract.
-
You're talking about a scenario in which Cronin quits and is in breach of the contract.
-
UCLA: lol, good luck (Let's be honest - Cronin's lawyer would never threaten to take something like this to court).
-
I just think about how often it rains in Southern California.
-
And, at most, UCLA will say "yes you did - we just need to clarify a minor language point." You're just a little out of your depth here.
-
Again, I doubt the language is limited to the Pac 12. And I'm sure UCLA isn't worried about the courts - from a practical standpoint there's no reason for them not to change it if needed But more importantly, that change is not a huge bargaining chip Cronin can use to renegotiate his whole contract - that's the point.
-
He would lose on summary judgment on a suit. I'm sure UCLA would revise the bonus language if needed (it probably says "conference championship" and not "Pac 12") but there's no legal grounds for a suit.
-
... I don't think you should give legal advice based on this.
-
I think you're right that this is the most likely scenario.

Everyone would know as soon as IU hired him because his history will be in every article about his hiring. And people have very strong feelings about being domestic violence. And, on top of that, it's not about being "sanctimonious" - it's about whether you're hiring a coach who is one bender away from putting the program in a terrible position. Maybe they totally vet him, he never drinks anymore, and his past issues were all a big misunderstanding, but you're kidding yourself if you don't think a sizable number of people will be skeptical and nervous about that.

Crean: 4 seed 1 seed Missed tournament 10 seed 5 seed Missed tournament/bubble out Cronin: 11 seed (out then won conference tourney in a bad conference) 11 seed 4 seed 2 seed Missed tournament (worse year than any Woodson has had at IU or Crean had at IU after his first few) Then probably about a 6 seed this year I don't really care about conference standings when comparing to a 3-bid Pac 12.
-
Sure, if that's what he gives you. But competing for Pac 12 titles isn't as good as it sounds - that league was so weak. In the last four years, he had two really good years and two years pretty similar to IU's last couple years under Woodson (and yes - I realize that one of those years he was a bubble teams that snuck in and went on a tournament run, but I'm not big on hiring based off one-off tournament runs). His success at UCLA is a lot more like Crean at IU. There's an awful lot of projected improvement to get him to competing for Big 10 titles nearly every year.

Cronin is a high floor/low ceiling guy. He'd be fine. Better than we've had. But he won't make adjustments when things go wrong, his teams will be mediocre on offense, and he will wear on people.
-
If you're exhausted with people asking who you would like as the coach or who you think will succeed/fail what do you truly want? The question led down the path to what you wanted to do...discuss your coaching ideas and options. He doesn't want to talk about Brad Stevens and also doesn't want to talk about anyone else. Otherwise he's all sunshine.
-
So what do we think of Mark Turgeon?
-
98% of this thread will have nothing to do with the next coach. There are tons of names discussed here, all but one of which will not be the next coach and most of whom will never be in consideration. I'll never understand why people get so fixated on not discussing one particular name.

If IU hired McDermott Creighton would hire Huss. It's not totally crazy for him to be a major conference coach. But a two year track record at a low major definitely makes him very high risk.
-
It's not just about who keeps watching or doesn't watch - it's about how high-risk he is off the court. That's what most people are evaluating.

https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/college-basketball-coaching-changes-fsu-indiana-miami-utah-virginia-are-first-high-major-jobs-to-open/ The main thing that's interesting is that there are clear favorite(s) for the other jobs and a big "who knows" for IU.

I bet Schertz has St Louis improving significantly next year and is a hot name 12 months from now.

Creighton has been to six Sweet Sixteens. 3 in the 1960s/1970s... then none from 1974 until McDermott made it in 2021, 2023, and 2024. Creighton made the second round three times prior to McDermott (in the 64+ team era) - 1991, 1999, and 2002. McDermott has made it 7 times in the last 12 years (edit: adjusting for covid year). I think he's a really solid coach. My biggest hesitation is they have had a few clunker seasons in there at Creighton, too. I like consistency...

Kalkbrenner has been on that team forever.
