Player and Recruit Retention News/Discussion & Potential Transfers
RedsIUfan replied to Brass Cannon's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If he's as bad as some say he is I'm not sure why we WOULDN'T want him to leave. Personally, I think he can be a very solid contributor but if he chooses to leave and begin the next stage if life I don't blame him at all. At worst he can probably see the world some and experience a lot of good things all while making a very solid living playing a game he enjoys. It's a win-win for the guy. -

I'm enjoying y'alls back and forth. I see pros and cons on both sides. Related to this post but unrelated to your convo. I don't see the potential for OG that others do. I think he and TB benefited greatly their freshman year from the ability of Yogi to break down and draw defenders. I know that guards do this in the NBA but the athleticism is greater overall and I'm not sure about their abilities at that level -

When I scream "WTF???" at a ref from my couch I need a coach who can effectively communicate this!!! Lol -

I know this is immature of me but one thing I thought when they dismissed Crean was...I want a coach who when I read his lips on the sidelines I see an occasional f-bomb!!! I want to see an occasional "motherf***er" directed at a ref! I know, I know...I'm terribly immature for a 51 y/o but I wanna see raw emotion sometimes. -

Illinois to Akron? No. Unemployed to...anywhere? Has a better ring to it lol. -
What the hell is up with you Maynard??? Reciting facts and s**t!!! Lol

I'm not sure of the roster construction but he actually went out in the second round the year after going to the elite eight. I believe that other than the elite eight year he never went past the second round?
-
I understand that. I believe what is disconcerting to some is that yes, he had fewer resources at a somewhat lower competition but although he did well he didn't really dominate with his "superior Xs and Os" everyone is referencing.
-
I'm going to give Miller a chance but it seems what they're saying is Crean had more weapons...they're leaving out that Crean had tougher opponents.
-
I'm kinda disappointed but I'm an IU fan so I'm hoping he succeeds. Let's wait and how he's does. I'll be honest, when his team made their elite eight run a couple years ago I kinda liked what saw. I'm neutral Archie...win me over. I live in the Cincy area and have heard some good things about him on local sports talk shows. For those of you who are more knowledgeable please educate me. 1) what has he been like as a recruiter in the past? 2) what has his teams defensive and offensive stats been like at Dayton?
-
This right here is how I feel. Gonna have to say I'm putting my trust in Glass. I think a lot of fans are like me. We wanted Crean gone in the worst way. Two years ago would have been great to me. Hell, the day after the Syracuse tournament game would have been awesome to me! I think, to the credit of Fred Glass, he was deliberative, thoughtful, and somewhat methodical. I Hope he approaches this hire the same way. Take your time and get it right. Judging by the criteria he gave at his presser I think he has lofty goals and I Hope he keeps his focus on them. Makes his decision based on importance not urgency. If Donovan is available/interested I Hope he waits until Hell freezes over. I'm not worried about recruiting for next year. If we can get Donovan I don't care if we suck next year (I don't believe we Will but I'm not concerned if we do). I think Donovan could hit the ground running, recover quickly, and be a long term home run solution. I Will say that of the remaining candidates names that have been tossed around I've always been a fan of Marshall. I like his "kiss my a##" attitude and he's been a winner. The one who has really grown on me though is Bennett. After researching some his offense has been better than my first impression. His defenses have been very good. Almost great at times. What I like best about him though is that he's coached in the ACC. It's the best basketball conference going. I don't think he's going to encounter anything in the B1G that he's not encountered before. If he can coach against Roy and K I think he's good to go against anyone in the B1G.
