An update on would-be hires of weeks past: Happy enough that it doesn't seem to be Drew. McDermott isn't looking too good. Otz got got. Buzz too. Beard pulled out a win. Schertz's squad looked good. So did the Pitinos. Lot of action this time of year!

I think I remember Jerry hinting in that direction before he went quiet...

The funny thing is that this is totally consistent with Goodman's role as 'Raise Facilitator.' In this case, it applies to whoever else wants to make a run at McCollum...

If things go a certain way, IU could miss the tournament, and McCollum could coach them in the Crown! ;)

This is exactly true. I saw somewhere that Pitt (17-15, #72 in Torvik) would be one of the Bubble teams this year if the tournament expanded as is being proposed...

I'm sympathetic. As of this morning, IU was in 92 of 94 Brackets on BracketMatrix. Would need to be a horde of bid thieves over the next few days to kick them out because of the weakness of the bubble. http://www.bracketmatrix.com/

It seems like IU's a lock for the tournament, but I think I'd prefer not to go, at this point.

So here's a question; is Self slowing down? How would we feel about Bill Self? Call me crazy, but I'm leery of him compared to the others on that list. Confident in Few, but IU would be a much bigger job than he's used to doing. Think Stevens and Donovan would be obvious home runs.

That sounds believable. I would think you're also suspicious of McCollum, so that would be consistent; you would say he ought to win at such a level before he's considered. My point earlier was that if IU is entertaining McCollum, then Schertz should have stayed put, and found enough money to pay guys what they're getting at SLU. He does seem in a favorable place to win; I think SLU has some surprising resources. Would be interested to know whether someone is familiar with that landscape.
