  1. I've cracked the code. The DMV is on the East Coast and Gonzaga is on the West Coast. As DMV has been talking about Mark Turgeon, he's been expecting us to pick up on it being Mark Few all along!
  2. He's the one name that I've not heard floated by anyone outside this board; someone (maybe Dakich) told the story of Few once saying that Indiana people were way too intense, and that he wouldn't want that job. I am curious how he would do here. He has a tremendous track record, and would have the institutional support to thrive, if he could handle the spotlight.
  3. RIP to the goat. Was a beautiful funeral; who's who of #IUBB all gathered up in Geist.
  4. So that's all true; I should be more clear. I meant to say that over the last three years, Drew's teams have not looked like the elite, title-contending teams he has built at Baylor to this point. Advanced numbers the last six years, according to Torvik are attached. Last three look a lot different from the three previous. Would prefer that IU hires a coach who would direct a defense ranked higher than 75-100 in opponent points per possession.
  5. Still waiting for that March run! Maybe he'll think twice about retiring...
  6. I am starting to get a little of the Bill Self vibe from Scott Drew HT @hper50... Are we sure that he's going to thrive in the era that everyone can pay players? Looking at his teams the last three years gives Tom Crean Marquette vibes more than national contender. Think he would be more consistent than Crean, but think it remains to be seen how he holds up.
  7. Really can't believe that was only two weeks ago.
  8. Good news and bad news. The Good News: The end is in sight. The Bad News: Administration doesn't like how hard the board was on Woodson. This thread has to exceed the length of the Retire Mike Woodson Thread before Brad is announced. Better keep posting!
  9. This. He's an elite evaluator. In looking at some of the Celtics boards, the only thing they say about Stevens is how great he's been at scouting and roster construction. I'm convinced he would be elite immediately. We live in hope...
  10. When you make a title game from the Horizon league in back to back years, you get benefit of the doubt. Taking your question seriously; I don't know what people would say comparing him as a tactician to Rick Pitino. But if Stevens coached at IU he would immediately be the best or second best coach in the country. He made 3 Eastern Conference Finals, and would have made the NBA Finals on that second trip, if not for losing Hayward and Kyrie Irving. Took LeBron to 7 games without his two best players. Open to pushback. Think there is no one IU could get who would be as good of a coach.
  11. I've decoded the situation... Stevens is announced on FoxSports at the appointed time - as Isaac said - and addresses the fans w/Woodson and the players on Senior Day...
  12. Didn't believe when I looked at the schedule that the win over Purdue was the first win at home since January 8th. 45 days without a home win, 0-4 in that timeframe.
  13. This is true; with the resources and the time, I think the biggest of fish are gettable. Would just like the timeline to accelerate.
  14. It is true that the more mental gymnastics we have to pull, the less good we should feel about any particular candidate. I caught myself trying to talk myself into Dusty's extension not being an obstacle, but I'm suspicious of that line of thought.
  15. What if... Brad Stevens has been the smokescreen all along?!
  16. A couple podcasts on the search. Episode 1: Candidates considered - Scott Drew, Mick Cronin, Brad Brownell, Ben McCollum Episode 2: Candidates Considered - T.J. Otzelberger, Greg McDermott, Buzz Williams, Tommy Lloyd
  17. He actually might have been a candidate, once upon a time!
  18. They also ask the question, "Is there a run Woodson could put together where he would be back next year?" Just in case you wanted to get a little nervous.
  19. Goodman @ 6:00 - "Brad Brownell is probably the safe pick..." Save us...
  20. I wonder... has that guy landed his big fish...?
  21. Watched McCollum today; very impressed at how well-coached that team is. Drake's success is made more amazing, in that they look like a DII team, in terms of talent level & size. Was amazed to find that Drake's opponents shoot 55% from inside the arc. Outside of Stirtz, Northern Iowa looked to me much more talented. Amazing that Drake leads the Valley, let alone by such a wide margin. Rooting for them to some how end up in IU's bracket for an early round tournament game. Ballo and Reneau might combine for 50 if they went against Drake.
  22. They've run a quiet search. JT III has finally had the time to recharge his batteries, and is ready to move from the Wizards' front office. NBA connections are valuable...
  23. As an intellectual exercise, I think Kelvin Sampson's leap into one of the great coaches in the game was supercharged by his stint in the NBA. He's said as much in some places. Can't imagine Stevens wouldn't have grown as a coach; think if he ever came back to college, he would immediately be one of the very best teachers and tacticians in the game. A man can dream...
  24. I'd say it's almost the inverse; Ballo being held out at the start forced the team to show what things would look like if Malik and Ballo were exclusively used at the 5. Think something similar happened with Reneau's injury; it forced smaller, more effective lineups.
  25. Hulls, Zeller, maybe Cheaney... getting the all-player assistant staff together!
