IUFB Offseason Updates
TXHoosierDaddy replied to ThompsonHoosier's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Too bad. This kid seemed to be really high on IU and was a big time recruiter on social media before stepping foot on campus. Had a good offer list coming in too. -
We are yet to resemble a consistent football team. When Wilson was here it was all offense and no defense. No with Allen its all defense and no offense. The offense part begins with the quarterback. We haven't had a good one since Sudfeld and that makes all the difference in the world.

Nebraska with Scott Frost is at least one to watch.

(2019) SG James Bouknight to UCONN

What is the take on this kid? He seems to be moving up the rankings some but the offer list isn't overly impressive. Is that because of the injury and the fact that he's starting to make more noise so more offers coming in? Just wondering since I don't necessarily see us taking this kid and Newman if he wants to come to IU. -
Now with an IU offer. 6"4 315 lbs and 3 stars. Solid offer list. https://247sports.com/Player/Melvin-McBride-46052349/

That would be a monster class by Holtmann if that happens. Wow. -

They got a top 20 kid committed in Gaffney and he and Liddell play the same position. Before Gaffney committed, Liddell was thought to be an OSU lean. I'm not sure that is the case now? And the concern is always here on this board the second we miss on a top recruit. I'm not concerned though and I love that Archie is not putting all his marbles on the table for a few players. We have many great options if we miss on some of our top targets. Liddell will be big time player for whoever is lucky enough to land him. -

I have to think an offer is coming. No guarantees in recruiting so can't hang the hat on Brooks/Watford and others. This guy is being heavily looked at by Duke. That tells me something since they have been cleaning up on recruiting the past few years. Coach K said something to the effect of he has improved as much as anybody in the last year. His ranking is likely to jump. Would love to have him as well. -

This could be a backup option to Brooks/Watford. Look for Liddell to possibly get an offer soon i've seen IU connected to him recently a few times. https://247sports.com/Player/EJ-Liddell-45572957 - EJ Liddel 2019 SF 6"7 https://www.kansascity.com/sports/college/sec/university-of-missouri/article215173730.html Liddell’s newest schools A quick note here on North Carolina, Duke and Indiana in regards to E.J. Liddell. While on this road trip, I interviewed some KU recruiting priorities to help out their beat writers at our paper. Before you nail me to a cross, some of those gave me good insight that I’m using now. Josh Green, a consensus five-star recruit, said Roy Williams told him he only offers scholarships to six to seven kids a year because North Carolina is well, North Carolina. I’d be stunned if the Tar Heels offer Liddell. Simply too many guys in front of him as of right now. Duke is a strong possibility. Assistant coach Chris Carrawell replaced Jeff Capel on Coach K’s bench, after Capel got hired at Pittsburgh. Carrawell is from St. Louis and played at Cardinal Ritter. He has strong ties to the area and landing Liddell would be a good way to impress his new boss. At the same time, the Blue Devils are in good with blue-chip recruits like Isaiah Stewart, Vernon Carey and Matthew Hurt. I’d be surprised if Duke doesn’t get some combination of those three. I think Liddell is behind those guys and even if he does get an offer, would he want to go into a situation like that? Indiana is also recruiting Keion Brooks, an in-state kid who has similar game to Liddell and plays the same position. He can change the situation there. An offer from any of three schools could alter Liddell’s recruitment but the guys in front of him have just as much, if not more influence. -
(2019) SF Trendon Watford to LSU
TXHoosierDaddy replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Lewis seems more interested in staying in the SEC from everything I have read. -
He took less by not accepting qualifying offer. I think he was pissed that by doing that the Mavs didn't guarantee his second year. Basically, Mavs got the best of both worlds in this situation. If Yogi was going to take less they should have made a concession and given him 2 guaranteed years. Otherwise, they could just cut him after this year and lose nothing.

Well who knows if a Memphis commitment is on the horizon. This is kind of contradictory. -

The Penny Hardaway and Mike Miller effect. We played in the league a long time and can get you there as well. I bet this is the start of something that lands a lot of big time recruits. -
I agree it's how the Celtics got so good although that trade was incredibly lopsided from the onset. Spurs probably could have made this deal if Kawai hadn't been so outspoken about going to the Lakers after this upcoming season. Teams don't want to sacrifice future for a one year rental especially when Golden State will still be better than them even with Kawai (Boston being the only exception here). And yes, Spurs will have to add another star when most hit free agency next season. They at least are a more attractive option with Derozan there versus getting basically nothing for Kawai.
-
The Spurs weren't going to trade him to the Lakers. They are ultimately hoping he stays out East so they don't have to face him every year unless they were blown away by an offer. Also, the Lakers pretty much said Kuzma was off limits. I'm not sure what the Clip or Sixers could have offered. Sixers obviously weren't going to trade Simmons or Embid and Fultz seems like a huge risk this early in the game. Clip seemed like they had a disfunctional roster although just invested in two 1st rounders this year.

I do see the comparison to Wiggins and agree the stats look good but the advanced numbers don't lie. Two things: 1) lets see what he does with a competent coach like Pop. Toronto was always so guard oriented. Maybe now he can work inside out with guys like Pau Gasol and that might improve those numbers as well as being in a more structured system. 2) My reason for thinking the Spurs did well, which is what I described above is Kawhi made it almost impossible to get a full return on him. The fact he might sit out, has this phantom long-term injury, and publicly stated he wants to go to the Lakers makes it hard for a team to invest the type of package you mentioned. Spurs obviously weren't going to trade him to the Lakers. That really only leaves Boston in my mind that could have come up with a package around Jaylen Brown, 1st round pick next year, Terry Rozier? It just seemed like the Spurs had very limited options in this regard.
-
Isn't a good player? Where do you get that from? He didn't show up in the playoffs but he seems like a really good player to me. Not a superstar by any stretch like Kawhi but a guy you can build around. He's definitely overpaid. I'm not sure what you could gotten that is better than him if you're the Spurs given the situation. I think they did very well.
-
Where do you think they could have gotten more? I'm honestly surprised they got an all-star back in Derozan. Figured most teams would shy away from providing a star just because Kawhi has been so outspoken about free agency after this year and wanting to go to the Lakers. Its a big gamble for Toronto.
-
Uh yeah. Why did Toronto make this move? Kawhi is unlikely to stay in Toronto unless Drake can really put the sell on. Otherwise, its just one season of a guy and a team that has no chance of even winning the East imo.

Avery Short has also decommitted. This was probably our best recruit for '19. He likely would have gone pro given he will be a high draft pick so I take this with a grain of salt. It appears the bleeding has stopped for now. I think we are down to 6 HS recruits for next year (not including JUCO or transfers) and because of that our ranking is in the 70's/80's which is not unexpected with a coaching change. We didn't lose a lot from last year's roster, which is a huge blessing given this transition.
