    Xavier Arrested...

It's not clear what you mean by that. Will Xavier walk away without some penalty. No. But will Monroe County prosecute the felony charge ("resisting law enforcement")? Extremely unlikely. Prosecutors will very likely drop that charge and require Xavier to agree to some type of excessive speeding charge. In other words, he will pay a fine. All of this will be resolved well in advance of the start of the season irrespective of whether Xavier remains at IU or moves on. As for Coach Woodson, like most coaches in this situation he is concerned with the individual as well as the program. Would Xavier learn more from the incident if disciplined inside the program by the coach or would he learn more by leaving the program? As a player who Bobby Knight kept on after Knight caught him and others smoking dope (clearly illegal and at that time rarely tolerated), Woodson understands the value of teaching players who have done bad things off-the-court internally. I could be wrong, but I don't see Woodson dismissing Xavier. If Woodson is struggling with what to do, Xavier will enter the transfer portal or otherwise leave on his own.

    Xavier Arrested...

Stewart didn't arrive through the transfer portal. He was a graduate transfer who Archie Miller recruited to IU after Stewart's coach--his father--died unexpectedly. WayneShadowIU is apparently one angry dude. Fortunately, no rationale person would listen to an irrational angry man's rant.

    Xavier Arrested...

If Xavier was intoxicated, he would have been charged. Cops don't ignore driving while impaired, especially under these circumstances.
  4. Archie missed so badly he thought Kristian Lander could skip his senior year in high school.

    Xavier Arrested...

That's why I love this forum. We're all idiots on this bus. BTW, the reason I don't think Xavier will be dismissed is he is a standup guy (goes to school classrooms and talks to kids). I think if he sees Coach Woodson struggling with what to do, he'll just put his name in the transfer portal and be gone. I don't believe this case will wind up anything worse than a fine for excessive speeding. But I don't think Xavier will put Woodson through anguish about it. He'll just move on.

    Xavier Arrested...

I wouldn't accept allegations in the report as fact. As an attorney of 40 years who has seen my share of these reports, I know that allegations by arresting police officers in traffic cases are routinely exaggerated. Was Xavier speeding? Undoubtedly. Was he going 90? Unlikely that the police will be able to prove he was. That's why rushing to conclusions is a mistake. This will be resolved by the courts. Typically, unless alcohol or drugs are a contributing factor, the serious charge is dropped and there is an agreement to plead guilty on a speeding charge--not necessarily the charge that was originally filed.

Fortunately, your "wisdom" will never be tested because Xavier isn't going to be dismissed.

    Xavier Arrested...

I agree with this. If IU and Woodson just let this play out in the courts, the serious charge will be dropped and Xavier will pay a fine for speeding. Very few people will care about it once it is resolved by the courts. If Xavier is dismissed the controversy will continue throughout the season.

    Xavier Arrested...

Getting caught speeding has nothing to do with the integrity of the program. And the success of the program next year will not be measurably different whether Xavier stays or not. Some of the comments on this issue have been ridiculous.

    Xavier Arrested...

As long as we are throwing Xavier off the team, let's self-report some minor violations to the NCAA and put ourselves on probation.

Plus make him shoot 3-point shots and free throws for an extra couple of hours.

    Xavier Arrested...

I guarantee the resisting arrest charge will be dropped. And, if there is no objective proof of the speeding, i.e., radar, that could be dropped, too. In any event, Xavier will not be dismissed from the program for speeding even with the curfew violation from last season. It would not surprise me if Xavier disputed the speeding charge prompting the arresting officer to slap him with excessive speeding and resisting arrest. Sadly, this kind of thing happens too often. It happened to me and I'm a lawyer. Of course, I got the whole thing dismissed and a letter of apology probably because they feared I would sue them for false arrest. Woodson is no stranger to player misbehavior given the marijuana issue when he was on the team. Knight dismissed only those who lied to him allowing the rest of potheads to remain on the team.

    Xavier Arrested...

Curfew violation is worse than this from a program standpoint. As a lawyer who has seen a bunch of these before, with no alcohol or drugs, I predict the resisting arrest will be dropped and Xavier will pay a fine for a speeding violation. Most everyone gets a speeding ticket at some point. Again, the facts are unclear. But my experience is generally cops are overly sensitive when they pull over a driver who then tries to engage in any discussion. They consider any attempt to discuss the matter as resisting law enforcement. Woodson will tell Xavier it is his last chance but won't announce that publicly. And, life will go on no matter how alarmist people who talk about the incident become.

    Xavier Arrested...

No alcohol is good. Don't know the facts, but it could be excessive speeding and then trying to talk his way out of it when he should have kept quiet. My bet is he pays a fine and that's it. I doubt it means any worse than a game suspension.

    NCAA MBB Transfer Portal

Rob Phinisee started three years at IU with some really good performances and a couple of game winning shots. So the bar can't be too low for him. Will Kristian Lander fulfill the promise of his 5-Star ranking. Not likely. But he could be a pretty good player on a decent team if given the chance to play and develop.

    NCAA MBB Transfer Portal

Lander is quick and has excellent court vision. His shot needs work and he was weak defensively. But his weaknesses can be corrected. Lander shot better from the field, from 3-point range and from the foul line than Phinisee did. He has natural ability as a point guard, just needs to work on some things.

    Big Ten Coaches Likeability

Tom Izzo is the most successful coach currently active in the Big Ten (666-267--71.4%). Matt Painter is not too far behind percentage wise (384-192--66.7%). The least favorite coaches tend to be the most successful ones. Painter is a good coach but he has never won a national championship or been to a Final Four. Izzo's teams have gone to 8 Final Fours with one National Championship.

    2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection

Race Thompson right now is a better player than Jordan Geronimo. Geronimo has the potential to be a better player than Race perhaps even sometime next season But he isn't there yet and if Race wants to return Woodson should encourage him to do so. If Race returns he should start over Geronimo but Geronimo should get more playing time than he did last season.

    Next assistant coach

That's quite a big "if." If only we had been able to hire Brad Stevens...You need to put a name on that better option. What coach out there who can land 3 top targets is ready and willing to come to Indiana University to be an assistant?

    NCAA MBB Transfer Portal

Pack says he wants to play in the NBA now and he is probably good enough to get on with some team. Maybe he retreats and transfers but my guess is he sticks with professional basketball.
  23. The problem wasn't that Trayce was the focal point of IU's offense. The problem was that when Trayce kicked it back out to the shooters, the shooters didn't make enough shots. Trayce took fewer shots this past season while making a higher percentage than in his first two seasons. It wasn't until the end of the past season when Xavier Johnson started hitting shots from the outside at a higher percentage that IU's offense with Trayce as the focal point became effective. IU's shooters--Miller Kopp, Tamar Bates, Tre Galloway and anyone else who plays--have to become reliable outside shooters for IU to win whether Trayce is back as the focal point or not.
  24. Are there any players in the transfer portal Race Thompson's size who are better than Race Thompson? Not many, if any. IU is not likely to land a big who is better than Michael Durr much less better than Race Thompson. If TJD goes pro and Race moves on, IU has nobody to play the middle. Maybe we get a transfer but how good? The transfer portal is a mirage in most cases. If Race is thinking about transferring, Woodson should persuade him to stay.
