General Coach Candidate News
HinnyHoosier replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I like Dusty but I hope they don't make it that far. My brain wouldn't be able to tolerate seeing him make it to the national title game the very first year he should have been our head coach. I already have a hard enough time with Pacer games because of Doofy McBuckner -

See some of my discussion in the last few pages. I don't want to type it again lol. The fans tend to see it from a fan's point of view rather than a coach's. -

This. As a fan base, the bold is our biggest barrier to reality. -

It's in his name. He's on an Indiana board with a name focused on Kentucky. He loves misery and he's just trying to find the company to go with it -

Fact. But also better overall and in conference. Consider that part equal, record-wise. But the turmoil of the Indiana program and the job that goes with it is the primary perception that most people have about Indiana basketball. Poorly managed, dramatic, and rabid. It's completely reasonable we would be competing for up and coming coaches with Iowa, particularly when the candidate in question has roots in Iowa City. It's not unfathomable that we are not exactly the cream of the crop compared to the rest of the conference in terms of desirability. The only thing setting us apart anymore is the money. And no, I will not employ the Randy Savage cream gif here. -

I've edited mine too. Our reputation with our administration changes the view of the job as well. -

I can understand how one would feel that way. But the only real difference between the two now is that one of had 3 decades of a hall of fame coach and the other didn't. Now that we've been back down on Earth for 25 years we aren't as prime a spot as we used to be. And seriously, does Indiana not have a reputation of a completely bumbling iteration of an Athletic Administration to this point? People see it's been a clown show here for a while. Time will tell I suppose. -

Stu is telling you Iowa has had more success in the Fran era than we've had in the last umpteen eras. He never said it was a better job. Just trying to help differentiate, and also help some people in here see that there's a legitimate reason we could be competing with Iowa for a coach. People act like we're competing with Penn State rather than a program that for several years has been more successful than ours. -

Ok. How about "more successful"? Because the numbers are pretty telling. -

Not necessarily a better job, but a better program at this juncture. -

Still a petty Betty today? The sun is out, it's March Madness, and we're about to get our coach. Turn your frown upside down and quit your bi***ing. -

Agreed. If he had let them know there's no obligation on their end to keep it quiet for whatever IU's timeline might be. He still could have signed and just not informed them yet, but I wouldn't see any reason to wait past today in doing so. Either way I think yesterday was all agent gamesmanship. -

And then his NIL value went down even more lol. I guess it all depends on what they're willing to settle for. If the goal is decent money from a big program I'd say they're wasting their efforts. -

I don't want to add more Woodson PTSD. It's already bad enough knowing we'll have to see Dusty May's name in the top tier of the conference year after year. The less quality names I associate with his buffoonery the better. -

If they're really hunting for a better offer and it's heavily money-driven he might as well just live in Cook Hall and grow his game. No one is going to offer close to what he got from IU this season for doing so little. But I'm guessing they realize that and are waiting to see who the hire is and how it might project with playing time. -
