(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS
goonaha replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Well considering that the prevailing theory is that he is doing all this to avoid backlash.... no. -

Ask North Carolina and Notre Dame. -

"Inner circle". Is his source Tim Langford? Because that's the extent of the inner circle. Perhaps extended to include the trainer that he attended the IU-Northwestern game with. -

If Romeo has wanted to out of state this entire time, here's his best approach to brand building: announce in the fall and continue to be the gracious kid he's been all along. Many a recruit have done the same thing. -

You have an interesting theory on brand building. Generally building a fan base up and then tearing them down at the end is not a net positive towards the "brand". -

Think Garland just likes to talk and say whatever will benefit him the most in his current situation. -

I just can't get over seeing the "He didn't want to announce against IU before the high school season take." This is perhaps the most stoic, level headed 17 year old highly ranked recruit I've ever seen. He never shows emotion, even in the face of heckling student sections, cheap shot fouls, and constant attention from strangers and the media. And yet we still get a parade of the same uninspired take. -

Ding ding ding. The backlash he's going to get if he commits to Vandy at this point is far greater than it would have been if he would have committed in the fall and not seriously considered IU. -

Why not just announce for Vanderbilt in the fall and get it over with? That way he could go through the season with less attention and pressure much like Kris Wilkes, Kyle Guy, Gary Harris, Jaren Jackson Jr, Trey Lyles, Trevon Bluiett, Gary Harris, and countless others. Could you point me to videos of the above players being booed because they did not go to IU? Any evidence at all would be greatly appreciated, since this is not the first time someone has posted this unsubstantiated thought. -

Boos that wouldn't have happened either. -

Romeo visited an IU game, on his own, and gave a positive post visit interview, less than a month ago. I know when people say the same thing over and over again on every page of this thread that it can be easy to lose perspective, so just a friendly reminder. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

If the staff backs off (which they won't), people will know and reports will come out. That hasn't happened. Believe it or not, high school game visits are not the be all end of recruiting. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

That's a ton of effort for a softening of the blow that wouldn't happen. -

(2019) SF Keion Brooks Jr. to Kentucky
goonaha replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I guess I'm skeptical that it'll make any more of a difference than a strong aau season this summer would. Kansas, UK, UCLA were already looking. Another example, Paul Scruggs went all the way to California and still came back to the Midwest. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Why? I still think he'll end up at IU or Michigan state. Jaren Jackson did the same thing and still kept his recruitment fairy local (plus Maryland and Georgetown because of his dad). Schilling and Sr are still tight. All reports indicate that Jr. likes Archie. I wouldn't worry about it. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

It seems fairly short sighted to assume prep school significantly changes the recruitment. It's not like his family is moving. The same things that have put IU in a strong position are still there. -

They play different positions and we have more than one scholarship to give. -

I know there were rumors of him leaving before the season for prep school. Seems weird that it would come up towards the end of the season. Did he get in trouble at school? Anyone from Fort Wayne in the know? -

Or people could refrain from warrantless speculation on a recruiting thread unrelated to said recruit. If we're talking moderation technicalities. -

And yet January 6th he gave this quote ""A lot of schools have been seeing me and in touch like Duke, Texas, Kansas, Indiana, Purdue, Michigan State, Syracuse, Notre Dame, Georgetown, Xavier, Virginia, and some more," listed Stewart." -
