Again we don't know that Glass was leaning towards keeping him despite the rumor but this is definitely possible. It could be to ask them for money for a big name coach for all we know. My point is we don't know either way or that Glass was planning on keeping him yesterday.
-
I know of one booster who wants him out (and its a really big one I promise you). Not sure how strong they are pushing for Crean's ouster or how much Glass respects this person but I would think he does given what they have done in the past. No idea if other boosters want him out but I would think they do given state of program. I would also assume Glass respects anyone who gives big bucks or he wouldn't be athletic director.
-
Again nobody knows if that's really true that he was planning to announce that. That was a rumor. Could be true. Lets not treat it as gospel though.
-
The poster said he heard a rumor. Who knows if that's true. If Glass truly doesn't care what boosters think and their donations dry up I can promise you McRobbie and the trustees will intervene and dump Glass. I also saw Rabjohns said he thought boosters were meeting and a change would be made from what he's hearing based on what I read earlier in thread. I certainly would believe Rabjohns before I believe some faceless poster on twitter or the board.
-
A supposed meeting with boosters can be nothing but a good thing. Only possibilities to come of it are: 1. Either Glass won't listen (if he indeed planed to keep Crean) and will force them to pull donations and that will force Glass out eventually 2. They will talk him into firing Crean 3. He is firing Crean and asking them for big $$$ to hire a new top coach instead.

So this 'rumor' about Glass announcing yesterday (no idea if I believe it) was put on hold by trustees. If that's the case maybe trustees were leaving it to Glass hoping he made the right decision. Then when they heard he planned on keeping him they got involved and told him change your mind or you are out also and now a lot of posturing is going on between Glass and the higher ups over Crean. Wouldn't doubt this but hard to know if a rumor is to be believed.

Completely agree. I have no way of knowing how good we will be or whether we do things competently. I was just saying there is 0% athletics get de-emphasized or having funding cut as a poster indicated with Butlers situation being an important example of what happens to presidents who become hostile towards athletics (big difference from staying out of it and letting tohers lead which is what McRobbie has done so far).
-
As I said read what I wrote about Butler on the previous page and you will see their is 0% of IU deemphasizing athletics.
-
McRobbie can be pushed out as well for not caring about athletics enough. I know for a fact former president Bobby Fong at Butler was either pushed out or resigned because he wanted to de-emphasize athletics even after Butler's run to the championship games. Needless to say that didn't go well and Fong left to take a job at a small D3 school with no athletics. My point is when your IU, athletics will never be devalued when push comes to shove no matter who the president is as Butler showed us a few years ago. Now how good the teams will be I have no Idea but 0% chance athletics is de-emphasized.

I for one am as anti Alford as it gets and would be my last choice among available candidates. With that said if it's Alford or Crean I choose Alford. Anyone else or Alford I choose the other person (besides Sampson of course). Keeping Crean is literally the only way I will probably not renew my season tickets (I have standard season tickets and make no donations so I have no power to influence) although I would still watch and buy a few games cheap from secondary market.
-
Does this look like a guy content with Crean or team? This was taken last night by media when Glass was watching game. Hopefully this means he is not happy and makes a change.
-
Everyone needs to calm down until a decision is made. You know how many coaches assume they are coming back and talk that way until they are fired? I will reserve judgement until I hear an official announcement.
-
If Glass decides to keep Crean he will sink with him if things go badly next year (very likely) just as Greenspan sank with Sampson (which is ironic since from what I've heard Greenspan did not want Sampson but had it pushed on him by Herbert).
-
As I keep saying (if Glass was indeed planning to keep Crean which no one still knows through all this) if the push back is from donors with their wallets that's huge and could make a difference. If it's just average Joe fans bombarding him with emails or media pressure that does very little.
-
Maybe Glass passing on the men's team hosting was to drum up support for Women's team hosting which is giving that way more attention that it ever would off. Maybe it's a creative ploy to push 5,000 or more to women's game. Totally kidding but think we all need a good laugh in these stressful times.

I'm not sure. He's always leaked Colts and Pacers stuff before they become official so I'm assuming he's heard something from someone important about IU. I'm sure Dakich knows but I have not heard him say which way IU is leaning but just his personal opinion unless I've missed it. Like I said we can hope even if Glass is leaning towards keeping Crean donors can change his mind with their wallets over next couple days.
-
The fact that the 'janitor' is willing to admit he doesn't know makes me think he's the one guy with actual sources on the inside. These other posters I question if they know a thing or just drawing attention to themselves and rile people up. Also don't think Greg Doyle has any sources at IU but just guessing. JMV saying on his radio show today he's heard IU has no intention of making a move is the ONLY worrisome thing I've seen/heard through all this over the last few days as he tends to have inside sources and be right before others with local teams. Curious to see how this plays out. Also Glass could change his mind if enough big donors threaten to pull money if he keeps Crean. That's the only thing that could change Glass' mind if he indeed plans on keeping Crean (which really no one knows since he has stayed silent).

and senior night net cutting embarrassment vs OSU. That to me despite all the ups and downs remains the low point in Crean's tenure.

http://kentsterling.com/2017/03/13/indiana-basketball-iu-ad-fred-glass-chooses-broken-window-over-cracked-foundation-iubb/ I agree. As I've said IU was between a rock and a hard place. Sterling has also been pretty anti-crean to my understanding.

Whats this bull malarkey about Glass hangin'...

Didn't want to re-live Vanderbilt game of 05 with 4,500 people. That's how many would of come and Glass basically said IU didn't want to re-live that. Reasonable people can disagree whether that is a good idea or a good reason but that's why, -
Everybody thought they would from the beginning. Different fan base that is in town all yr. Women will draw 2,000 whether its regular season or WNIT and not affected by break and that's expected. If the men drew even twice that people would laugh. Different situations.

That's an alternate smaller on campus arena. I'm sure if IU had a smaller on campus arena they would jump at that and the new replacement for U-Gym would be an ideal solution starting in 2020 when it opens for this situation. However, right now IU has no where on campus you can host a basketball game at this moment besides Assembly Hall. Certainly being at U-Gym and the Field house a ton I can tell you those cannot host basketball games anymore. Neither can Wildermuth.
-
Not sure if that would of worked or not. Would free tickets have filled place. I'm not sure? I think the bigger problem here is people are looking for anything to criticize the program for right now given the state of what where it's at. That falls on Glass and Crean and that is 100% their fault for letting it get to this point. The criticism of not hosting an NIT game is anger placed at the larger issue at hand and this is the easy thing to throw it at right now.
-
How much do we want to bet if IU hosted and 3,000 people showed up people would of trashed IU also. I also think IU maybe should of hosted but don't have a strong opinion either way. However, from an IU perspective they were gonna be criticized either way but after game as oppose to before. And I think they might not let you host at other sites unless your arena is unavailable. Like I said I'm not positive on that but do think that is possible.

Glass has reiterated today that ESPN saying renovations was something that ESPN invented on its own. I thought that was ESPN's mistake and not IU's from the moment it was said and have texts to prove it. We can reasonably argue whether IU should of hosted and how Fred Glass handled it but the renovation part was not IU's fault.
