Anyone who feels like they have been 'cheated' over not being able to go to an NIT home game should re-evaluate their life. I can tell you as a several year season ticket holder I had no interest in going to this game even if tickets were offered for free. Now granted I'm in Indy and not Bloomington so people in town may feel differently. Still I run down for every weekday Big Ten game despite having to wake up at 8am everyday for work. Not doing it for NIT though. If we keep Crean than people should be calling for Fred Glass and all higher ups head in the department but not over declining to host an NIT home game.
-
Here's a thought. Maybe Crean wanted to host NIT game and Glass hopes that by denying him that opportunity he'll resign on his own and Glass won't have to fire him. Probably not a sound theory but no crazier than any of the others I've seen tonight.
-
For what its worth Terry Hutchens tweeted he believes there is more to this than what meets the eye in terms of IU's explanation for passing on hosting game. I'm not sure what he knows or believes is the actual motivation but thought that was interesting.
-
The 'renovations' was a mistake by ESPN. IU has said from the get go from moments after the bracket went out that 'it was due to students being on break'. Not sure if this is a good excuse but no one at IU every tried to put something out there about renovations.

What is this "btown insider" saying? As I've said I place no weight on posters but just curious.

2017 NIT Selection Show - ESPNU 8:30pm
Aaron replied to hoosierdogg's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I may be in the minority but glad IU didn't host. After embarrassment in 05 of under 5,000 people attending why have that again? -
Bingo. Thats where i'm at

I have an HT subscription and the article stated nothing new. Just that the players back Crean as you would expect. Nothing earth shattering.

2013-2014. That Pre-Conference tourney in New York that year does not count anymore that our invented tourney this year to play IPFW.
-
I've seen one "insider" thing that pointed to him being gone several weeks ago but would not make it certain in anyway. Just remember what big time donors think matters (especially ones with names on a university building). That's all I will say.
-
What about our run in 02 to National Championship? That was exactly 15 yrs ago so I can see you not taking that into account except your also saying 3 Big Ten Tourney semi's one of which in 01 (and its actually 4 since we went to semi's in 02 and lost on Recker's shot) occurred before our national title run in 02.
-
Evidence that he may be gone. So we are at one thing saying Crean may stay (He's still recruiting) and one that he may be gone (Glass saying nothing). I am discrediting all "supposed insiders" as evidence since I believe no one. Like I said tea leaves are pointing sideways with no real evidence either way. We'll see what happens.
-
Or he's been told nothing so he is working business as usual. Often people fired from jobs conduct business normally till the moment they are fired even if the signs of it happening are likely. I am not saying we know for sure Crean will or won't be back but nothing I've seen so far (still recruiting, message board insiders) to sway me either way based on available evidence. I am still unsure and waiting to see how it plays out.
-
Another supposed insider. I trust no one. He may be right but lets see what happens. Social media has turned our world to the point where one posts from a supposed insider causes hundreds a mass freakout. The good and the bad of modern technology and social media are at work.
-
Does this freak out have more to do with actual "inside info" (which I don't believe) or the fact that no move has been made yet? Either way people need to chill and see what happens.
-
Isn't Waters already signed with Georgetown?
-
Why is everyone using quotes Glass said about Crean 2 yrs ago to determine if he will be back next yr? I have not heard him say anything about Crean in last few days or even this year. As a matter of fact he specifically declined interviews to the media right now and said nothing recently.
-
Everyone on this board is bi-polar. No one on this board knows anything. If the truly insider guy is the "janitor" (which who knows how much he knows although he seems to have a good record) he has not said anything about Crean returning unless I've missed it. He's just says Alford's interest is from his side and not IU's in last couple days. Let's see how this plays out.

Game Thread : Iowa vs Indiana (Tonight @ 6:30PM EST ON ESPN2)
Aaron replied to Trish's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Get tourney away from Indy and we are decent. 8-9 in games away from Indy and at least 1 win 6 times in 10 yrs. Indy we are 3-10 with 1st rd elimination 7 times in 10 yrs. Even Crean is 3-2 with at least a win in all 3 tourneys elsewhere. 1-6 in Indy with elimination in 1st game 5 times in 6 yrs. -

Something to note is in Terry Hutchen's currently live chat this week he has completely changed his tune from Crean may be back to Crean is probably gone. He's clearly heard something this week (as he's confirmed on chat).

Why is Louisville the only out of state city to give IU coverage?
Aaron replied to Aaron's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I half wonder if also Chicago (the people living there) kind of considers itself superior to Indiana and thinks it is much bigger and better than our state (that's the vibe I get from friends living there and no knock on them at all for feeling that way and they are great people) so they don't think they need to give anything in our state the time of day (heck they don't even like associating with northwest Indiana which is their metro area). Same with Cincy to a lesser extent. Louisville on the other hand certainly does not feel superior to Indiana and people their don't mind "Hoosiers" (state residents not the team) so they are more likely to like and associate with someone or something from our state. No idea if this is true but a theory I have thought of since starting the thread. I can however, promise you the Chicago market (not sure on Cincy) has way more IU fans and alums than Louisville yet receives maybe 1/100 of the attention from the media. -
It always has seemed IU has gotten a bit of media coverage in Louisville (although way less than Louisville and Kentucky) between Bozich and their IU coverage in the Courier Journal and even highlights are often on local news. I know a huge amount of their market stretches into Indiana but so do Cincinnati's and Chicago's and IU is invisible in the media to these two cities. Heck, even in football the Colts are tied with the Bengals for the cities favorite NFL team and are shown every week there. I understand Cincy and Chicago have NFL teams of their own so I get that. In general I've always wondered why Louisville has had no problem aligning with Indiana's teams while other states border cities ignore us?

"Scheduling conflict" sounds a bit weird and how did it just happen now? What is going on that week that IU already committed to? It sounds like again Crean (if he is still our coach) is trying to make the easiest schedule possible which has been an issue throughout his tenure. Are we replacing these games with someone else or leaving just Louisville, Notre Dame Big East and ACC Games as big games? We have always participated in at least our own tourney so if this creates a decent match up at home like we did with Butler or SMU I am all in FAVOR but if it's simply to replace these 2 MSG games with 2 more cupcakes all of Thanksgiving IU has some explaining to do. If this is a situation where IU found out both it's Big East and ACC games are on road and we are replacing it with a good home game hallelujah and I'm happy. If were simply plugging in cupcakes because we want an easier schedule this is very bad. This is a key question that needs to be answered with this move and until then I remain skeptical.

If we miss tourney Teri Moren can follow Crean right out the door. I'm sorry but after that collapse she can't coach here regardless of what she has done in past. Rationally, she has gotten the team to a higher point that they have ever been but a lot of this is Curt Miller's player's still. Like a lot of others coaches in this situation I am waiting to see what she does with her own recruits (although she has recruited very well so far including the first 5* recruit in program history next year) when they take the court. It is very much a wait and see game with her with some very good (last year) and some very bad (a slight underachievement this year although not bad and her 1st year was awful) and jury is still out.
