Big Ten Tourney Non-Indiana Game Thread
Striper replied to MartintheMopMan's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Trying to impress the ladies of West Lafayette. -
Didn't know where else to put this. I hate to make fun of them, but sometimes Purdue fans just make it too darn easy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrAts2tkBmQ

Not helping that already weak draft status.....

And 4 out of those six programs are likely not dancing this year. I also think with a small sample size (excluding the post Sampson mess seasons) we compare relatively favorable to Arizona. We lack the Elite 8s, but (knock on wood) also lack the Round of 64 losses. 4 out of 5 years in the dance. Looks fairly similar for a 5 year period.

Fair point, and I wasn't meaning to insinuate that you were calling for Crean's immediate firing, but referencing what others have said. You bring up a great point. After Knight's dumpster fire of a season, he went 21-8 (Sweet Sixteen) and 22-12 (NIT champions). Since our most recent dumpsterfire, Crean has gone 20-14 (NCAA second round) and 25-6 (outright Big Ten champions, tournament results to be determined), and people are still calling for his head. Granted, as I said before, Knight had the most historic season ever in 75-76, but can you imagine if Crean went 21-8 next season, or 22-12 with an NIT championship? The internet would collapse with calls for his head.

Correction. In the 76-77 season I originally mentioned he had A championship. I give you the two additional ones by the 1990's slide. And coaches that stay relevant do adjust (see Coach K, Smith, Williams, even Calipari).

Beg to differ. Not spot on, but I think a lot of people remember the "good ol days" as being a little too good. And no one will ever measure up to the standard some have set in their mind. In a different time dynasties were more the norm (see UCLA basketball, Alabama football), in the current vastly different world of "parity" two sweet sixteens and two Big Ten championships aint so bad. IU hasn't always had the consistent greatness that some like to imagine, and coming from where we were in the early 2000's, 3 out 4 four of the last years would be "IU acceptable" historically, I will take that. My point was simply that RMK was victim to many of the same gripes people have against Crean, he could be inconsistent (particularly following his championship years), he overworked players to where the played significantly weaker later in the season (particularly in the 1990's), and he was often inflexible in his system (again, lacking ability to adapt after 1991-92); but Knight had the buffer of a national championship.

Knight had a horrible season after '76 (16-11 and no postseason), I guess we are all lucky he wasn't fired for his inconsistency.

Besides the obvious issue of Blackmon having to sit out another year if he leaves, this move would just crush this kid's image. And for someone looking for a pro contract, that is something he will have to think about. But can you imagine a team improving as much as we did this year after his injury, winning the Big Ten, and then him up and leaving because he doesn't think the coach is good enough for him? He will have a hard time shaking the "uncoachable" label. Not a problem to transfer as some college coach will take a swing at him for the offensive prowess, but will definitely hang over him at draft time. And with a limited skill set, he needs all the help at draft time he can get.

and then awaits Kansas.....

Illinois Hires Former Chicago Bears Head Coach Lovie Smith
Striper replied to Walking Boot of Doom's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Personally, I predict a similar fate to Weiss. Weiss came in with more fanfare as a football wizard. When I lived in Chicago, I don't remember a lot of people distraught when the Bears got rid of him. He has no college experience, and has had more than one pro team push him out. Maybe he becomes the next Pete Carroll, but I am betting not. -

Thanks Nick for being the model for my kids on what a perfect shot looks like. Now if I could just get them to replicate.... -

As was Charlie Weiss at ND..... -
I was glad to see Yogi, Troy and JBJ named among the pre-season top 50 list. Only other school with three was those who shall not be named to the south of us.
-
A set of sore hands mid season, he had to take a break from clapping and really think about what this team could do.

All of the shorts but ours make me puke a bit in my mouth. This is the first step on the slippery slope of returning to the 1995 UK shorts. What's next? Coogi sweaters coming back? This needs to be nipped in the bud.

The top half is rough...glad we aren't there, but I will gladly take the bottom half. I would take the #3 in the East also. Stay away from Mich State in the South!!!!

I love that fact that we are able to be boastful today. I will definitely take this over the long drought from the mid 90's until 2011. That said, I think some have what might be considered unreasonable expectations. Even the great RMK "only" had 11 Big Ten titles in 29 years at the school, and 3 national championships (the raw numbers look good, but with that conversion rate there would have certainly been a "Fire Bob Knight" thread by the mid 1990's). Given the steaming pile that Crean was given, and the fact that he has 2 Big Ten championships in 4 years, his numbers don't look too bad. I would argue that they certainly aren't bad enough to pull the trigger on the man. Now I have to get back to gloating.

Lunardi started hedging his bets yesterday saying IU can move to a 2 seed with a BTT run.
-
Agree, but as long as they don't look like the '95 UK uniforms I won't complain.
-
UCLA fans make the exact same claim...
-
Based on Lunardi's regular lack of accuracy, I wouldn't trust him any farther than I can throw him.
-
Well deserved. I questioned him at the beginning of the season, but he is fulfilling what he said in his video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wj7idbECk44

Don't know, but I once saw Tom Coverdale meeting with Snidely Whiplash at the train tracks behind the Brownstone Apartments...
