Drew's failures are across the board. And do you have some examples of coaches for whom resources were what was holding them back? I looked at every coach in the Big Ten and could not see a discernible difference in their Adjusted offensive and defensive numbers between their previous jobs and their current. Love to be proven wrong though.

I brought this up earlier... Drew has an adjusted offense of 135 on KenPom right now. His highest ranked is 41. How do you think a coach who has cracked the top-50 on offense once will bring home a banner? Drew has had 1 top-25 defense and 2 top-50. Is that enough defensive consistency? Drew has generally fielded teams with offenses and defenses ranked ~125. Is that the kind of consistency we are looking for? And those are adjusted for opponent, so there should be minimal conference bias. Why can Drew win but not excel? I mean, they're both pretty important. Tim is 100% right about the banners. Winning the conference is a big deal and should be a big deal to these kids. Especially, when it isn't a matter of "Well, if we win the next 9 games..." and instead it's "if we win 2 of the next 3" and Rojo does not have to play until March. After the 8th, he can take another 10 days of rest if he needs to. Obviously, if he can't play then he can't play, but if it's a matter of us getting 75% of Rojo or getting 0%, we are better with 75% during the final two games. And, if he's still at 75%, then I'd prefer he sits the Big Ten Tourney in preparation for the Tourney to keep recharging. Winning the season title is more meaningful than the BTT. Then yeah, it's best for all of us if we can kick some butt in the Tourney, but resting Rojo for a solid month to hopefully make it to the Sweet Sixteen when he feels and the training staff feels he is capable of playing next week just isn't necessary. I can't think of any reason Rojo would be cleared to play next Tuesday and should stay on the bench unless his play is detrimental to the team.

If he tries to invite you in June, politely decline that invitation. There isn't enough DEET in the world to be on the water then.

I'm still kind of confused. Why do we like Bryce Drew? If I want a coach who can only field a top-rated team on one end of the court I already have one. I mean, I know a series of seasons with mid-100s offenses and defenses is certainly consistent, but why is that the kind of consistency we want? Granted, who even knows anymore? We have all of this data at our fingertips, but how many of those multi-championship coaches would have been hired based on their data? Branch was legit enough at Ball State, but that's not why he was hired. Bob Knight had a mediocre time at Army. Coach K was a nobody who had been about as good as Knight at Army. Brad Stevens was a random assistant. Ditto Roy Williams. Jim Calhoun didn't even know there was a second weekend (plus, scumbag). So, how do we select winning coaches? Does anyone have any clue? I say screw it, let's just hire Zach Spiker. The most consistent shared feature of multiple championship coaches is a mediocre career at Army and he sure has that. Plus, Spiker is a BA name.

18, and it's the NBA so it's almost been 6 weeks. For a high grade 2, low grade 3 sprain that seems pretty believable. Rojo looked like he barely tweaked it. A week of physical therapy and he's 85% again. Back to where he was by the Big Ten Tourney. I'd sit him for Illinois and start him for Iowa and Maryland but limit his minutes a little. Minimize his practices too. My opinion will change depending on how he looks at Illinois though. I'd expect him to dress but not play. I guess dressing is less of a big deal than in football though.

Standings and remaining schedule 2/22
MartintheMopMan replied to BottomLine's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Aww shit I can't read charts. I just noted which loss numbers were the same and it seemed to jive (Iowa, Maryland, MSU) and went from there. I didn't apply like, critical thinking skills or anything. -
Standings and remaining schedule 2/22

MSU's remaining season is going to come down to tomorrow night. If they win @OSU, then I think they win out and get a share -
Wow, 9 pm on the east coast? Great for me, terrible for most fans (and players). Even in Central time where the game is being played, 8 pm on a weekday is a late start. Anyway, let's handle our business here. Since we last met our intrepid teams, Illinois has improved their defense by about 50 spots up to 119 while Indiana retook their place as an offensive juggernaut. It will be strength on weakness and should be one heck of a game for Indiana fans. Use your imagination! I could see him being gone if Purdue was our last win for the season.

I like the positive direction this post is moving in, though, we should probably move the line-up discussion into its own post or join it with an existing similar post since it was a good discussion that may be lost in this thread. I'm so torn by this whole topic at the moment. On the one hand, I love how the team is playing, I think they're being coached well and they're playing within the realm of their potential for the first time in a long time. On the other hand, I can't help but feel like being happy a team isn't playing below my minimum expectations is a sign that the coaching fit is wrong. I shouldn't have to be so excited we handled Purdue or Iowa the way we were supposed to at home, it should just be a state of being. I should expect more. Tom Crean can win my support for next year if he finishes out this year with some consistency. If we lose in the BTT or the Tourney, I want to lose because we played our best and someone played better. I want us to have had the talent, the passion, and the coaching, but just have it not be enough to overcome a superior team. I can accept that kind of loss. I just cannot deal with inconsistency anymore. I can't watch games wondering what team is going to show up, I can't watch recruiting wonder who will be their coach, I just can't handle that for another season. I'm a defender of Glass, but even I realize there is no way Crean is gone at the end of the year short of losing in the first weekend. Even then, second game might still endear him with a good showing in the BTT and a title. Let's all hope the decision becomes clear during the next year so we can just get off this crazy train one way or another. If Crean is having his career changing season, then great, I'm glad we already have him. If he's having a peak season ready to be sandwiched with more mediocrity, then no thanks, who else is available?

There is college basketball reference - http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/purdue/1996.html The title itself wasn't vacated though, the games earning them the title were just made losses. -

If either team reaches 60 I think they automatically win.

Yeah, I mean, he didn't smoke a doobie in his room or try and scare a friend in a car while he was drunk, he stood over a player from an opposing team and slammed another kid's head into the ground. There are zero excuses for that kind of behavior. If you do that and you aren't protected by refs, then you're going to get your ass kicked while your friends nod and say "yeah, he deserves that", go try it in the hyper.

You know who Maryland really could have used? Diamond Stone.
