I think we do have a true experienced PG in Newkirk. His issue at Pitt was the style was a horrible fit for him, and did not let him do what he does best. He will be very goo din our system and was credited by many within the program for the improved defense once he was able to start practicing, and there were solid reviews of his leadership as well. Will he score like Yogi, probably not, but he will be a very solid replacement in allowing us to play the tempo we want, getting to the rim, and getting the shooters and bigs good looks

Dayton xfer G Amber Deane to IUWBB
iubirdman replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Women's Basketball
The last line is the important one here, we still have a spot open, have not heard anything new or a timeline for a Corsaro decision, but would have hated to see us not have one available for her had she wanted to come here. Looks like a quality signing for the program and gives us a little more perimeter size, could make a really good guard wing rotation with Buss, Cahill, McBride, Elbert, Deane, and hopefully Corsaro -

(2017) PG Dana Evans to Louisville
iubirdman replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Women's Basketball
At this point not sure what our odds are with either, but to included on lists that include the likes of Baylor, Louisville, UCLA, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington is big for the program. Be nice to be able to get Corsaro first, pair her with Cahill and Buss (with McBride off the bench) and we would have some really good perimeter scorers. I would think that would have to help with Evans the following year, especially if we have another successful season. Noce to be considered by a McDAA on the womens side this year and a top 10 national recruit in 2017 -
OK I know everyone points to the Mizzou win as a great win last year, but in all honesty how good was Mizzou??? Yea, Yea I know they finished in the top 15 in the country, but in reality thier best win was Minnesota was't it? They beat a 7-5 Fla and an 8-5 TAM group, but that was about it and neither of those teams were great. If that Mizzou team were in the B12 still I doubt they would have been ranked, but not voter was going to keep a team out of the polls that was in the SEC title game, no matter how bad the east was. The 2 really good teams they played they were outscored 76-13

Darius Latham suspended indefinitely
iubirdman replied to KelleyHoosh's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Part of me thinks this may be what the first suspension was about as well. Suspend for the opener due to suspicion/reports of something. With the issues that were going on at the time, have to take a stand, even if proven false. Returns as investigation is ongoing, investigation into whatever ends, presents the findings, and now the suspension is indefinite. -
Who Do You Consider IU's Top 3 Rivals?
iubirdman replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Not sure you can add UK to the list as a rival at this point. I mean what do we play them in? Neither hoops team play, the FB team does not. The only one that I am pretty sure we play them in is baseball, not sure that can be construed as a rivalry anymore. I mean we can still hate them, but tough for me to consider them a rival when we basically never play them in anything anymore! With that said, my 3 would be PU Illinois MSU or OSU -
If we ran a play we were going to score, SIU is not stupid, they wanted as much time as possible to score, they were going to put up no resistance, that is why we needed to take a knee

Emmitt Holt dismissed from team
iubirdman replied to Naturalhoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
As for waiting a week, I wonder if having Bridges and Jones on campus over the weekend played in to the decision to wait? Huge recruiting weekend with 2 major targets in town, doubt you want to give a kid the boot while future players are in town -
Emmitt Holt dismissed from team
iubirdman replied to Naturalhoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Honestly this had to be done in my opinion, can only deal with stupidity for so long. As it relates to basketball, honestly, I may be the only one who thinks this, but it may help. I really think with Max's physicality and experience he will give us more than Emmit would have this year. If you watch last year Holt played well when he was only going to get 2-3 minutes run at a time, more than that he was exposed. I like what Max could bring and let's face it, the 4 will be TW and Hartman, so playing Max at the 5 I think makes us better than playing Holt there, esp if needed for extended minutes. -
Best players you have played against.
iubirdman replied to Iufan2324's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
In school the best ones were Jeff Massy and Andre Owens. Massey I believe was A10 player of the year when Xavier was still there and Owens was the point guard at Ok State when they went to the final four with Big Country. In college played pick up games with Hart and Wilkerson when their times were up as a part of the program. Chris Dittoe was really good to, All State kid who decided to play football and back up Trent Green. Most fun kid we played with a junior high kid at the time but was always the 1st kids picked in the games at Bryan Park. Pretty sure was the PG at BN when they won the state title in 98 but can not remember his name. Was a great passer back in the day -
Actually ashamed to say this but a few years ago playing trivia at B-Dubbs I had a 3000 point lead after 3 questions in retro TV trivia when the answers were He Haw, Sha Na Na and Lawrence Welk! The days of being forced to watch them on Saturday nights when I was 6 finally paid off! Of course in the college days we had the entire College Mall Theater singing the theme song to the Brady Bunch on the day the movie premiered! As for favorites, hard to say, if going back to younger days, loved Night Court and Cheers and for game shows would have to go with Jokers Wild. In the post JH years would have to go with Seinfeld and Jeopardy.

Weak Indiana HS Senior Class
iubirdman replied to WayneFleekHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Look at our recent run of instate talent we have had commit (last 4 years) Sr/would be Sr Yogi--Arrested as a sop Patterson--Never Qualified JH--Drug issues and left (on own or asked to leave but should not be here) Hanner--if you want to include, DUI, issue with DD and transferred Jr/would be JR Hartman--very pleasant surprise, by all accounts represents university in right way DD--multiple drug and alcohol arrests Soph/Would be soph Lyles--committed and withdrew commitment 3 years later JBJ--decommitted and then stayed, seems to be good representative of the university There you go the last 8 kids from Indiana to commit to IU, and only 1 from the time of the initial commitment has been incident free and not bashed on here for a decommitment or off court issue. If these are the kids that are supposed to get what it means to play for the Hoosiers we are in trouble. Obviously Jordy and Cody got it, but I would rather have out of state kids like Vic, Moye, potentially Bryant, and others that get it and take advantage of their opportunities -
Weak Indiana HS Senior Class
iubirdman replied to WayneFleekHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Our top priority should be the best players that fit our needs and get what it meant to play at IU. I could care less if they came from Indiana, neighboring states, Alaska or Germany. -
Weak Indiana HS Senior Class

The 2 kids who seemed to understand what being a Hoosier were over the last 15 years to me were Vic and AJ Moye. One from the east coast and one from Georgia.
