A couple things
first big time recruiting battle for a top transfer recruit.   Props to coach Devries and the staff he has for battling and landing this kid.  DeVries seems to have a recruiting plan and sticks to it no matter the time table.  From the outside and what we had for the last 4 years on the recruiting plan this is a breath of fresh air 
2.   This was an optics win for IU fans that care about those things.   IU has taken it on the chin in these types of recruitments so for their sake I’m glad they got this one 
3.  DeVries has landed 3 top 40 transfer portal kids in his first 5 weeks on the job without a full staff.  Grinder for sure.  Some programs didn’t land any top 40 kids and he landed 3 so far (don’t care if one is his kid he still got him).  Having said that I personally don’t put much stock in transfer portal rankings.  That’s a lot of kids entering to keep tabs on when these guys rank 4 years worth of high school kids as well.  But it’s another win for IU fans that care about optics

IU bound 

Paramount + is awesome and the fact I can go to other sites and see what their insiders are saying is a plus.    Just finished Dexter Original Sin the other day.  I’m perfectly fine with paying what I pay for my subscription. 

After Bryant crushed UK in the tourney Cal himself after the game said it’s not like we didn’t recruit the kid.   You saw why we wanted him.   

My guess is more money and probably associate head coach title.   If Adam’s is getting 400,000 which was more than any assistant on Woodys staff I’m guessing his will be more.  Only 32 

DeVries is cooking.  Just stole an SEC teams top assistant.  A sec team that just went to back to back elite 8s.   Not even May and DeVries has 3 assistants that are known to get dudes and has a roster of 11 possibly 12.    Heck of a job in my opinion.   Impressed

NIL is still relatively new to the college game.  IU was one of the first schools to embrace and plan for it.  Now schools are adapting to the new landscape.  Being one of the first doesn’t mean it stays that way.  Other schools have probably passed IU in terms of NIL.   Last year teams didn’t have to spend as much for players so fielding a complete roster was probably less expensive.  This year prices went up across the board.   Fielding a team this year compared to last year is probably different.   Part of the new way.    Every team will have to deal with it.  Buying players with extra years of eligibility doesn’t necessarily mean those extra years will be used at whichever school the go to.  Baylor lost their whole team to the portal and the draft and that program has won big in the last 5 years.   If it is happening to them then no team is safe.   Having said all that I like the roaster construction of the current team and look forward to seeing them play in a couple months

Not really at least not for me.   I knew most fans would lose their minds thinking IU could buy their way back to top but it doesn’t work that way.    It is what it is.  IU isn’t the IU of the 80s or 90s no matter how bad their fans want them to be.   IU needs to get in line and grind their way back up the ladder.   No shortcuts.  IU is just another program with higher expectations then other non special programs 

Looks like he landed 2 assistant coaches from sitting power 5 teams.  For a middle of a pack B1G team in my opinion that’s a good step.   Adam’s is known as a recruiter with Midwest and Indiana ties which is huge and Kenny Johnson is known as big time recruiter.  A lot more realistic move for IU to steal him instead of 2 assistants from Elite 8 level teams that their programs can match in money.

A new coach at a middle of the pack B1G program tried to convince assistant coaches that he had ties with to leave their current position at programs where they have been to the Final 4 and Elite 8 multiple times since the last time IU had and fans are mad they couldn’t pull them.  lol talk about sunshine pumping.   Take a look at where the program you are invested in is at and other then money (which the schools they are at currently matched) why are they moving from programs that are rolling to a program that is starting from scratch.  Pretty big leap of faith.  Good on DeVries for trying to bring them along but come on people really think someone was leaving Bama right now for IU in 2025 not the 1980s 

DeVries job is to get a middle of the pack B1G program competing for conference titles and having more the 1 winning conference record in a 9 year span.    Don’t care how much money a struggling program has they still have to grind to dig their way out of the hole that was made.   No skipping ahead of the line no matter how bad the fans of a mediocre B1G program want to.   Embrace the grind or be miserable.  This is where your program is at and has been at.  

Burn it down.   IU can’t field a team 1 month into the coach being hired.  Time of death for IU basketball?

Sounded like Louisville was on Conwell as far back as December.   Hard to compete for a kid that just entered the portal and the other school was recruiting him while he was playing at Xavier while IUs coach was coaching West Virginia.   Dix seemed to stay close to home because of a sick mom according to some on here.   Wilkinson hasn’t committed anywhere?  Who else am I missing that he hasn’t closed on his close to 1 month on the job.   Does closing on Enright and Reed count?

Ius current transfer class is rated 9th by 247 with the 3 kids coming in 
iu finished 2nd last year.  
We all know how that turned out.   
 
Hopefully the staff fills the roster with the right transfers instead of the better numbers.  I would like IU to win games on the court instead of winning the portal rankings in the off season 

Hopefully building a roster the right way and hiring a staff the right way and if that takes longer then some thought then I’m good with that.   I read and heard people saying they wanted stuff done by the 7th and for me that never made sense so I’m personally fine with how this is playing out.   Regardless of if he would have had things set by now or gets it all set 2 months from now the end result will be the same.   He will have to have on court results.  

All Goodman said was they were targeting him just like he said they were targeting Otzelberger before that.  Never said McCollum was his first choice 

Friendly remainder when comparing DeVries to Kelsey next year that the B1G will be loads better than the ACC was this last year.   Louisville finished 18-2 in the Acc.   15 of the 18 conference wins were against teams 60 NET or worse (9 of the 18 against teams over NET 100).   3 other ACC reams made the tourney.  Louisville got all 3 at home and didn’t have to play a road game against any of them. So in their road conference games they didn’t have to play a tourney quality team.
