IU vs Bellarmine Post Game Thread
Uspshoosier replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I was watching the Kentucky game from 2011 the other day and I forgot that Daniel Moore was playing some minutes in the 1st half of that game. I was probably yelling at the tv what is he doing in this game during meaningful minutes. I'm with you I don't think we will see burton in the 1st half but you never know (Nothing against Moore I just didn't feel like he should of been in there against the number 1 team in the counrty -

I remember a Syracuse team in 2009-2010 season that lost to a divison 2 team Le moune in an exhibition game at home 72-69. They ended up 4th in the AP polls and fininished 30-5 (#1 seed that lost to butler in sweet 16). It could of been worst we could of lost although if the season ends up like syracuses I would take a loss in an exhibition game if we ended up with a season close to that minus a loss in the sweet 16 -

State of Recruiting/Do Rankings Matter?
Uspshoosier replied to MartintheMopMan's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Hopefully the college game never becomes like the NBA. I have never really been a big fan of the Nba although i will watch it because it is still basketball i prefer the college game 100 times more. College basketball is my favorite sport. there is something special about it for me that nba doesn't have. Although i don't like the one and done rule, coach K showed why he is the greatest coach in college basketball history(sorry Bobby) he did something the Knight wouldn't or couldn't do and that is adjust to the landscape of college basketball. For me it is refreashing to know in college that coaches can be sucessful with different approaches. While some coaches can use the one and done way. I love the fact that Izzo can take a kid like denzel valentine (who had a 247 composite ranking of 105, composite ranking takes all recuiting services and averages them) and by his senior year is concidered one of the top players for the upcoming season. Izzo also took a chance on a 2 star (rivals) transfer from cleveland st and transfer eron harris from west virginia (247 composite ranking of 236 and 11th in the state of Indiana). He also can bring in the 5 star talent like davis as well. I'm thinking michigan st will be right in the thick of things come march. For every Kentucky, Duke, and Kansas that can make a final four on talent alone(although they all have great coaching as well) there will always be the teams like wisconsin, michigan st, whicita st, butler that can make a final four with great coaching and no one and dones. -
State of Recruiting/Do Rankings Matter?

just curious couldn't he of said that he agreed with your statement instead of using "get it" implying that anyone that has a different opinion on the subject doesn't get it (basically saying you don't know what you are talking about) i have no problem with with fleeks opinion on the topic what i do have an issue with is the approach and little shots hidden in the message. At the end of the day, We all have the same goal (i hope) that we want our team back at the very top of the mountain, we all just have different opinions at how we get there. -

gets what exactly? not quite sure why you give a crap if someone else has a different opinion on a topic then you do. Hopefully in the future there will be a topic we see eye to eye on so I can "get it" -

if the 8th rated 5 star pf was Chris walker then yes I would rather of had the 132 rated 3 star pf Nigel Hayes -
it has nothing to do with being happy with results, I just don't put stock into meaningless rankings. I don't get worked up and take little shots at how bad I would think recruiting is. Even when we had top 10 classes we were still middle of the pack. so we need to keep getting that 5 star talent to finish 7 and 8 in the big 10, I would rather get the right fit ( 6,5,4,3,2,1 star) recruit.

didnt those recruits play in a final four last year?

Wayne did you freak out this much in 2011 when georgia, rutgers, st. johns, seton hall, and missouri made our recruiting look pedestrian by having a higher ranked class then we did. Our ranking in 2011 was 33. I don't rely on team rankings like some others around here do because i don't think they paint the full picture. For example the last 5 team rankings according 247 IU mich st miss st 2011-33 2011-23 2011-14 2012-8 2012-12 2012-46 2013-6 2013-74 2013-84 2014-17 2014-50 2014-78 2015-26 2015-18 2015-20 If you go by team rankings IU would be the most consistant of the 3 teams. Im sure izzo was more concerned about getting the right people in the system then worrying about the ranking. His 74 and 50 ranked class made it to a final four. Iu's lowest team ranking was 33 and i would argue that it was the most important class out of them all (Hello Zeller). While team rankings are fun to look at and debate i just don't know if they are that important. If we landed davis, and brown are class would still be ranked lower then Mississippi states class. Would that make that class pedestrian?

According to rabjohns crean is visiting Davis today

Hopefully he just actually wants to visit his final schools before he makes a decision. If my child is ever fortunate enough to get recruited by multiple schools for something I would want them to visit in person before making one of the biggest decisions in their lives at that age. You would hope he gets blown away on his visit and commits

They usually play the games on big ten plus on regular big ten network a couple days after the original date. You might have to wait a couple days but you should be able to watch them without plus

PITT Transfer Josh Newkirk is headed to IU!

From the article from Albers, we originally offered him a scholly in 2013 (so did Arizona). I didn't remember him from the recruiting boards back then -
(2016) SG Grant Gelon commits to IU
Uspshoosier replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
just curious top 10 according to who? Some recruiting magazine on Twitter. How accurate was this recuiting publication in predictimg previous indiana classes. did we even recruit cline in 2015. gelon has a whole year to move up or down those rankings. At one point in time gordon was the highest ranked kid in 2016 well ahead of kids like Guy. Guy got better over the years and didn't feel the love. Virginia made him feel like there number 1 option and iu and others made him feel like a second option according to an article I read when he committed. Here's hopling the gelon works his tail off and gets better like other kids have shown and is a pleasant surprise signing -
(2016) SG Grant Gelon commits to IU
Uspshoosier replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
depends what scouting service you follow rivals didn't have him in their top 100. There was a reason that the kansas vs whicita st game was heated. He committed to whicita st early and then blew up late in his senior year. Kansas offered late and tried to get him to decommit. Kansas never scheduleing them added fuel to fire as well -

There is a good article on syracuse.com about bryant and some reasons his mother thinks he picked Iu. looks like mom was still wanting him close to home (can't blame her). I don't know how to post a link
