  1. Roberts with a career high 31 pts. in a 59-56 win over Martinsville. He had 13 in the first half and 18 in the second. Some extracts from the post-game story. With the game clock ticking down to its final minute and the basketball in Bloomington North's hands, everybody in John Wooden Gymnasium knew where the ball was going. Moments before, Martinsville senior Landon Myers had come up with a clutch bucket, converting on an and-one opportunity to give Martinsville its first lead, 56-55, since surrendering it late in the third quarter. But with 54 seconds left, back to the basket, JaQualon Roberts received the ball, turned in stride and put in a finger roll layup, absorbing contact, adjusting mid-air and giving the Cougars a 57-56 lead. Roberts was an intimidator in the paint defensively, rejecting shots left and right. He guarded the perimeter, harassing ball handlers on the wing. He came up with some steals that were converted to easy points. On offense, it didn't really matter where he shot the ball from, it was going in. Entering the game Roberts was shooting 27% from distance, but he got one to fall tonight. He was also shooting 52% from the foul line, but knocked down 10 of 13. Then, of course, the final basket to seal the deal.
  2. Fayette over Hampton 84-67. I had Banks with 19p 10r 4a 0s 4b 4t. Several of his TOs were unforced.
  3. Georgetown Prep beaten by Bullis 61-52. Rooths 10p (4-14 FG), 9r, 4a, 4s, 3b
  4. NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Indiana Track & Field jumps squad wrapped up the first day of the Commodore Challenge on Friday night. KEY MOMENTS • Mahogany Jenkins placed third in the high jump with a mark 1.80m (5' 10.75"). • JaiQuan Earls and Kynton Grays placed second and third respectively in the long jump. Earls saw a leap of 7.17m (23' 6.25") while Grays secured a mark of 7.01m (23' 0"). • On the women's side of the long jump, Paola Fernandez-Sola locked down fourth and captured a mark of 5.77m (18' 11.25"). NOTABLES • This marks the second consecutive time that Jenkins has cleared 1.80m or above this season. RESULTS High Jump Women 3. Mahogany Jenkins – 1.80m (5' 10.75") Long Jump Men 2. JaiQuan Earls – 7.17m (23' 6.25") 3. Kynton Grays – 7.01m (23' 0") Women 4. Paola Fernandez-Sola – 5.77m (18' 11.25")
  5. In a Baltimore Catholic League matchup Mount St. Joseph (12-3) (4-2) got by John Carroll (7-7) (2-3) 57-53. It was a rough shooting night for Tucker. I had him with 14 pts. on 6-20 FG; 1-6 on 3s; 1-2 FT; 8 reb; 1 asst; 1 stl; 1 blk; 3 TO. With under a minute left to play, he made a really bad pass that led to John Carroll tying it up at 53-53 but MSJ pulled it out. He runs the floor well and has decent handles. When teams press, he's the one that brings the ball up the court against the press.
  6. The Daily Hoosier posted clips of Hood-Schifino's games from last weekend. Included is a 12 min. clip of Coen Carr (#5) of Legacy Early College vs. Sunrise Christian. https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/watch-extended-highlights-of-jalen-hood-schifino-at-laporte-nibc-event-plus-evans-queen-and-carr/?fbclid=IwAR1F1qOpF2rnurKDhdzQ0LtS_85GLH6UfUSx2phAVolJ5hxOp5Mm390aAMM

  8. IU freshman big Logan Duncomb is out with a non-COVID related illness, per Indiana.
  9. Dustin Dopirak: First IU player out on the floor is Khristian Lander, who missed the last game with a sore leg. He's in tank top and jersey shorts so that's a good sign for his availability. Does have a red wrap on his right leg, but seems to be moving around OK Logan Duncomb not dressing out for this one. He's in sweats.
  10. Hoosiers gut out a 72-65 win and the 5-0 start in conference play is a program first. Give the game ball to Chloe Moore-McNeil for her 4th Q performance. Berger 22p 7r 3a 2s Cardano-Hillary 13p 6r 2a 3s Patberg 10p 3r 4a Gulbe 17p 5r 1a 4s 2b Browne and Moore-McNeil combined to play 52 min; scored 10p; 9r; 2a; 4s. Women have to travel to West Laffy on Sunday.
  11. Gulbe fouls out with 4:00 remaining and a 63-54 lead. She finishes with 17p 5r 1a 4s 2b
  12. Browne picks up her 3rd foul and we look like we're wearing down. 58-51 with 6:39 remaining.
  13. Gulbe 4th foul with over 8 still to play.
  14. Hoosiers start the 4th Q leading 57-43 and hopefully we have enough gas left in the tank to finish this off. Gulbe and Berger both with 17 p Gulbe and Cardano-Hillary both with 3 fouls.
  15. 5:08 left in the 3rd and we lead 52-38. Cardano-Hillary with 3 fouls. Gulbe has really stepped up tonight and now has 17p 2r 1a 3s 2b Cardano-Hillary and Berger each with 13 p
  16. I have been pleasantly surprised at how closely Freddie McSwain has followed IU basketball since his career was somewhat limited. But even Freddie wants to know...... Freddie McSwain Jr @Mcswain_Jr21 He wearing a suit today? lol #iubb
  17. Hoosiers leading 44-31 at the half and have played very well without Holmes production. Cardano-Hillary 13p / 5r / 2s Gulbe 12p / 2r Berger 12p / 3r / 2a Patberg 7p / 3a Moore-McNeil hasn't scored but does have 4 rebounds.
  18. Hoosiers 31-27 with 4:55 left in the 2nd Q. Cardano-Hillary and Gulbe both in double figures.
  19. Cardano-Hillary took a hard fall after making a layup and came up holding her head. Then she was pushed to the floor at the other end of the floor (no call) and looked like she may have hit her head a second time. After 1, Hoosiers lead 22-16. Cardano-Hillary 9p / Gulbe 7p Berger 6p Nebraska dominating the backboard (11-7) and already have 4 offensive boards.
  20. Pre-game radio show provided no elaboration on Mackenzie's injury. Learned that Grace Waggoner is also not available for tonight's game.
  21. Per @FDSportsbook, Indiana is currently a 5-point underdog (O/U 150.5) for tonight’s Big Ten matchup at Iowa. Tip is scheduled for 9:07p ET on FS1. Joe Davis and Bill Raftery are on the call. IU is currently on a seven-game road losing streak.
  22. Evan Gerike - IU comes out of the tunnel with nine players dressed. The big story, obviously, is Mackenzie Holmes, who is heavily favoring her left leg. IU sent out a release that she's missing tonight's game with a knee injury.
  23. Kiandra and Chloe are going to have to step up big time and possible some other girls that have seen very limited minutes. Can't afford anyone to get into foul trouble.
  24. Ouch! Mackenzie will not play tonight; out with a knee injury. No details beyond that.
